Dear Joss Whedon and Browncoats of all ages, sexes, sexual orientation and religous belief(I don't care what you believe, just believe!):

MASSIVELY ubershiny news for all!

With November the 16th locked in, Serenity is GUARANTEED FIFTY DAYS of screening here in Australia!

And COUNTING!

Originally:

September 28th to October 19th

THEN

October 26th

THEN

November 2nd

THEN

November 9th

And NOW:

November 16th!

The Quadextension of the final date!
(Hey, I coined a new term!)

Can I get "You BLOO-DY BEAAAA-U-TY!" people...?!

And to put icing on this pretty pretty cake, the audience is at least 50 people a time from my vantage point of view in the crowd!

(And the faithful don't mind the wear and tear on the reel. Don't bug us none. )

Who wants to try for a quintextension of 57 days?

- Sam AKA TallAussieBrowncoat

Aussie Aussie Aussie!

Now they BOTH keep it running!

And remember: weekends(fri-sun) are THE time to boost support the most!

This was on Serenity Oz about Box Office
So, i've been checking out boxofficemojo.com to keep an eye on serenity's takings. I then grabbed some population statistics off the web, and guess what I found! Yep, we are the highest-serenity-going country per capita.

Here are the figures:
Country; Takings; Population; Takings per capita
Australia; $2365686; 20126404; 0.1175
France; $530179; 60721947; 0.0087
Portugal; $218685; 10569829; 0.0206
Russia; $1379643; 143160115; 0.0096
Spain; $970891; 40341000; 0.0241
Switzerland; $23648; 7494429; 0.0032
United Kingdom; $4722758; 60462904; 0.0781
United States; $25240055; 296377066; 0.0852

So not only are we better, but we're streets ahead! yay us!

As it turns out, I'm also new, but in other news, SERENITY IS GONE FROM ANYWHERE NEAR ME! And my dad won't take me to belconnen to see it, even though I tell him how awesome it is and that he would probably like it, but I ain't giving up hope, I'm gonna try to convince him anyway I can, I HAVE TO SEE THAT MOVIE! Everyone I know whos seen it said that it's great and have either gotten into Firefly or want to get into Firefly, that is, if they aren't already (like my ENGLISH TEACHER!).

Holding in the US at 144 theaters
according to www.boxofficemojo.com/counts

It will be 49 days in US on November 17, 2005.

Plenty of first-run, buy-a-on-line ticket
theaters too:

http://imdb.com/title/tt0379786/cinemashowtimes?location=map

It's weekend gross time again.

I wonder when theater owners make the
decision to keep for another week. Is it
based on the weekend gross or is it based on
how many people come on Wednesday or Thursday.
Anybody know?

Check your area second-run theaters, newspapers, and other on-line ticket sellers like
http://www.fandango.com

actually 144 theaters in it's 6th week is really not bad...most movies that have been open for 6 weeks have disappeared completely.

I do hope we can eeek out a few for million dollars,
I would really like to at least make back the production costs in the theaters
so that the DVD sales are all profit.

And I've talked to some theater owners here (near where I live in the USA)
and they said that they have a contract for 2 weeks
then it is up to them to hold over or not,
depending upon how well they think the movie is doing in their area.

This means that 144 theaters in the US (and Canada?)
think that Serenity is worth keeping around!
(of course WE knew that! )

Just saw Serenity yesterday in Raleigh NC. It was at a second run house but there were about 45 people at the 4:20 showing. It seemed that most were seeing it for the first time in listening to their reactions and seemed older than college student age (the theatre is near NC State). There is hope yet!

I was also really peeved with the film quality - it was pretty much worn out and I suspect was a 3-4 week old reel set from Australia. Since NZ had an unnecessary delay in the release by over a month I suspect this was to allow recycling of film from Australia???? Needless to say the imagery was dreadful, lots of scratches, couple of times there were big brown vertical lines through the picture, and 3-4 times there were large 'splotches' (corrosion on the film) that obscured people's faces and stuff...

I'll have to make sure I go to a different cinema to watch it a second time this week... (typical that the newest, nicest, most comfortable cinema in my half of Auckland hows the crappiest film copy!!!

P.S. Since typical life of a film reel is only about 3 weeks as I understand it, I suspect this means a whole lot of people are goign to see crap substandard screenigns of Serenity in NZ.

I know what you mean, but somehow, the ones they're still using in the cinemas aren't THAT bad. Scratches and the like, yes, blotches, no.

And film recycling? Come on UIP, recycling is cool, EXCEPT with film.
Now that's just low!(/malism)

No...it was a Wednesday screening at Village Cinemas on Broadway. Good to see another Aucklander though.

But another screening with only a few people? This is just...wrong.

Film quality was pretty poor as well, though. Blotches....grr...

Yes - I went to the 6.20pm screening on Thursday (release day) at Botany - was very disappointed to see so few, BUT the whole complex was very empty (hardly anyone going to any of the movies) - even though the shopping centre was fairly busy...

Considering I went to the 3rd (or 4th?) screening of the first day at that cinema, and that cinema had had no preview screenings prior the film should have been near immaculate!!

And people wonder why I'd sooner get the DVD and watch a movie on my high-end HT set-up and 42" Plasma than go to the cinema!

Serenity _still_ has not arrived in Bermuda. *grr* Should we give up hope at this point in time?

How do the distributors decide on when and where to "recycled" films into the lower-priority areas? Is it potentially possible to see a film arrive at the local theatre after the DVD has been released?
