Today I bought The Complete Angel DVD box set (200 Euro, if that’s not emotionally affecting I don’t know what is). Once I got it home I decided that the first episode I would watch would be season 3s “waiting in the wings” as it is one of my favorites. Anyway everything was going fine until the moment when Summer (The ballerina) raises her arms over her head and slowly raises her left leg is into frame. Suddenly at that very moment I had a flash of the Reaver fight from Serenity and broke into tears. That is the third time in the last 2 months that the Reaver fight or the Bar fight has caused me to cry. And I don’t know why. Im not a man who is terribly fond of violence but not to the point where it would bother me this much. Even my problem with the portrayal of physical strength as the only (or at least the primary) form of strength in Hollywood or linking it to something from my childhood doesn’t account for it. There is just something about Rivers fight scenes in Serenity that makes me deeply sad. And I can’t put my finger on what it is.

Anyway the reason im bringing this up is that it is quite rare for a work of fiction to affect me like this. So im putting fourth the question, what books, TV shows, Movies or even Video Games (Ico and Final Fantasy VII have also reduced me to tears, wish I was joking) have affected emotionally? Have any ever affected you in a way you can’t explain or was not intended by the creator?
