Damnit! And start buying Serenity!

Bestselling DVD's at Amazon.com :
Firefly Boxset #16
Serenity # 26

Get them cheap (only $16.98) at Amazon. It's our only hope for any future.

It's new people that saw the movie now buying the series on DVD. Once they've seen it they'll want to see the movie again, so they'll buy the Serenity DVDs then. So the Serenity sales will probably overtake the Firefly sales at some point.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Ignore the person at the top of this thread.

Khyron is right that the majority of recent sales is new people brought in by the movie or the series playing on Sci Fi that are driving up the sales on Amazon. We need those people too. It was the sales of the DVD that got us the BDM in the first place. No sense putting a stop to buying them now.

lol, okay, point taken.
But at least I can pick up the DVD and shake it gently to hear if it's dislodged at the store, and at worst I can bring it back the same hour for an exchange, if necessary.
I got a scratched up DVD from Hong Kong that would've taken weeks to replace; luckly, I was able to 'polish' down the scratch so that it would play...and that's only one of the ones that came that way.

I have to agree. I order stuff on-line if I can't find it retail, or if I find a REALLY great deal on line (like 3 seasons of 24 for $25.00).

I've gotten stuff on-line in the past that didn't work, and exchnaging it took weeks, or in one case, an exchange was refused, and I was on my own.

Besides, buying retail supports the local economy, and it needs all the help it can get around here.

I admit to being one of those people that saw the movie first, then got the series DVD.

At first, I put both the series and the movie in my cart. But, to get free shipping at Amazon you have to have them shipped together, not separately. I wasn't going to wait until Serenity shipped to get the series! So I removed Serenity and I'll have to get it later.

I know it is only like $3 more for the shipping, but I haven't converted my significant other over to Firefly yet (I went to the movie alone). Once that happens I'll feel better about spending our money on the movie and hopefully lots of other good Firefly stuff!

Welcome to the club.
Actually, most everyone here's been very supportive of us latecomers. Not like at Highlander where we eat the "afterschool timeslot discoverers" for breakfast.
I like it here. I think I'll stay.

And I think I'll order more box sets as Christmas presents, too. :D

Um you can buy both together for under $50 right now on Amazon! Then you can get both for gift-giving, and get free shipping. It's better than just buying the TV show. Also the TV show has a 2 year head start on the Serenity sales, so sorry don't think it's gonna catch up in a few days.

BUT Serenity is their #4 ranked Sci-fi/Fantasy movie pick for gift giving!!

Order Serenity online and risk it not showing up on the 20th?

Not when I've already planned my day around it!

(Also Amazon.ca is still charging $27.27(!) for it, so there's no way I'm ordering it online - even without the pre-Xmas mail delays)

Like I said I tried that, but you can't check the box that says "ship items as they become available" and still get free shipping. You need to check "ship in as few packages as possible" or whatever it is. I think that means waiting until both are available so they can ship together. I didn't want to wait until Serenity was available in order to get the series.

Hehe.

I preordered Serenity BEFORE I saw the movie.

I am a latecommer sci-fi convert too...

I got the DVD set on a Tuesday, watched all of it by Friday night, orderd the movie and show soundtrack CD on amazon, won the darkhorse comic series #1/2/3 on an ebay auction and went to bed. Got up Saturday and saw the movie at a 2nd/3rd run theater - $2 matinee...

Ah, I see. I can see how that might happen. I just started lurking at the official board about the time they started shooting "The Source", but I'm a loooong time regular (if infrequent poster) at Holyground.

True enough...but now that Joss Whedon has genuine supporters at Universal, we should pay extra care to justify that support. I'm glad new Browncoats are discovering Firefly all the time...but I just hope that every dollar and then some going to Rupert Murdock and the greaseballs at Focks, can be matched for Mary Parent and Universal.

I’m a new convert as well, and the friend who converted me asked that I wait to buy Firefly and Serenity in case she decides to give me them for Christmas. Yeah right! Like I’m going to wait past the 20th for Serenity! I stopped at Best Buy for Firefly and I think they were sold out. My current plan is to quietly buy both and re-gift any additional sets I acquire to generate new converts!

(Gets ready to duck)

If you live in a decent sized city, what would the advantage be to pre-ordering?

On Dec. 20th, I'm gonna drive to Target and buy it, and if they're out, I'll drive a little farther to WalMart. I'll have my copy sooner than those of you who pre-order and get shipped on the 19th or 20th.

Nobody's gonna make a decision about sequels or anything else based on pre-orders. They'll wait until January or February to total initial Serenity sales. Meanwhile, booming Firefly sales are a compelling reason for a sequel, too.

No way keep it going.... Remember Fox owns the production rights so it is just as well to keep them happy. Do you want to wait 10 years to wait for Fox's production rights to expire? I don't. So they get more money, Universal will get more money on the Serenity DVD then they go to Scifi (owned by Universal) with a mini series sized Serenity/Firefly, that's what.. 2 maybe 3, 2 hour episodes (equal to 6 tv episodes) that Fox get production money on then maybe another. Who cares how this happens so long as it does.

And don't think I haven't been grateful for it!

I saw a preview for the BDM, watched a sum total of two episodes before going to see said BDM, promptly got hooked, and have been obsessed ever since. I got the series DVD set for my birthday, started perusing fanfiction.net and Blue Sun Room on a semi-hourly basis, and have generally been behaving like a lunatic for the last two months. I'm hoping I can keep it up.

I'm probably the poster-child for "Janie-come-latelies". X-Files, Star Trek, The Wheel of Time books, almost every fandom I'm involved in has become a part of my life years after it got started. The one exception is "Lost". I got into that from the very first episode. At least I'm not a completely hopeless case.

After I saw Serenity, for like the 3rd time, I realized I had to see the Firefly t.v. show.

So I ordered it online from Bestbuy.com, (big mistake, never order from them). Anyway, I love the whole series and Serenity more because of that.

I also think that the series sales will help with it coming back too. **crosses fingers**
