Take a look at this, DVD owning Browncoats!
http://www.dvdfile.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5148&
Itemid=11

In short, the DVD industry wants to control all you see and hear. Your DVD's regestered? To a particular PLAYER!!?? And you have to hook up via the internet to VIEW IT!!!???

This is why Mal's an Independent!

Unfortunatly, Joss' vision of where this world is heading gets closer....and closer.

Down with Blue Ray, er, I mean Sun Chrisisall

You can bet that professional pirates will get round it. Meanwhile consumers are annoyed. I wonder if people will bother to upgrade?

Yeah...stupid sony. all this stuff is just gonna piss people off. Like i work at barnes and nobles and apparently the first round of the new madonna cd was protected so if you tried to rip it to your computer it completly messed stuff up. People were all kinds of pissed off. I rip everything to my computer, just cause i like to have it all there and put my media player on random and boogy away.

Well, here's my question. If your DVD's have to be registered to YOUR DVD player in order to watch the DVD, then what about the millions upon millions of dvd's from movie rental places...where there is no way that you can register the DVD to one particular player.

Whatever happened to the law that stated you had the right to make a backup copy of everything you own (which meant that you had the right to backup your DVD's and CD's to your computer)? Before I reloaded my machine, I had DVD burning software that was called DVD Backup (or something like that). However I cannot find the disc among my belongings anymore...that's what happens when you move 5 times in the course of 5 years. But seriously, what did happen to that law? Did they take that one away from us too?

This is just another example of why there is going to be widespread rebellion across the face of this planet within 100 years. This just shows how little corporations care about us, and just how much that all of us should stand up for our rights before all of our so-called RIGHTS & FREEDOMS are TAKEN AWAY FOREVER. It pisses me off to live in a country (Canada) run by corrupt who can't be replaced by anybody competent, and right next to another country run by a neo-conservative-gun-obsessed-invasion-oriented-anti-human-rights-christian president .

We've got the right to make backups of software as a statutory right over here in Britain (not sure about DVDs/CDs).
Strangely enough it was never illegal to circumnavigate copy protection to make this backup, but it has now been made so by Heir Blair’s gov.

So they've just passed a law that conflicts with an existing statutory right, that still exists.

I'm really looking forward to THAT court case.

The thing about DRM is that the people who create it are nowhere near as intelligent, gifted, knowledgeable or motivated as those who crack it.

So I'll throw my money in for about three months as being the length of time this attempt at Fascism/Stifling of freedom of speech, *AHEM* I of course meant protection of the rights of companies, is cracked.

The amusing thing is this whole system destroys pretty much the strongest type of advertising there is. Word up, if we couldn't lend our DVD's too our friends, we probably wouldn't have had Serenity the movie.

More insane ramblings by the people who brought you beeeer milkshakes!
Remember, the ice caps aren't melting, the water is being liberated.

I used to work with this 16 year old who would offer me movies that he copied, he just filtered out the macrovision signal or something, and acted like everyone could do it (I refused, of course. I want a keep-case with my DVD )

No doubt, he'll be amongst the first to crack the new protections.

Anyways yeah its a shitty deal and yeah sooner or later either Sony will back down on that one or someone will come up with a way around it. But in the meantime we get screwed again. I expect tomorrow to run into Jayne's Town considering how bad society has gone to hell in a handbasket. Ah hell worst comes to worst move back to Japan and raise hell as usual.
