James Cameron is looking for actresses that are "age 16 to mid-20s who are athletic and agile with graceful movement and have an ear for languages and dialects." i'm not sure about the ear for languages and dialects, but Summer would fit the description of a beautiful athletic and graceful young actress, don't you think? here is the story from RottenTomatoes, and it seems like some of the posters on their messageboards had the same idea about Summer taking the role.

James Cameron Prepares for "Battle"

Posted by Scott Weinberg on Wednesday, Dec. 07, 2005, 03:01 AM

Scott Weinberg writes: "The Hollywood Reporter brings news that high-tech moviemaker James Cameron is finally ready to get going with a new (fictional) feature. It's a sci-fi thriller called "Battle Angel," and it'll probably makes loads of money.
"James Cameron is moving forward on his next helming project, the sci-fi thriller "Battle Angel" for 20th Century Fox. The film marks the director's long-anticipated follow-up to "Titanic," which Fox co-financed with Paramount Pictures.

Fox declined comment and would not confirm that the project has been greenlighted, but Mali Finn Casting has placed an open casting call online for the lead actress in the new Cameron film.

The ad calls for female applicants age 16 to mid-20s who are athletic and agile with graceful movement and have an ear for languages and dialects. Submissions are due Dec. 19, the firm said.

"Battle Angel" is described as a big-budget adaptation of a 12-part Japanese manga series set in the 26th century that centers on 14-year-old female cyborg named Alita.""

Actually, having seen the Anime version of "Alita", I could see Summer in the part.

It'd definetly be a new look for her - the character is 75% robotic, with most of the mechanical workings visible.

It is interesting. The film will have a huge budget, possibly as high as $300 million and supposedly it will have photorealistic CGI. Of course the problem with James Cameron films is that he's always behind schedule and over budget but it’s worth it. Although I still wish that James Cameron would do Terminator 4.

Here's the site for the casting company:

Battle Angel being my FAVORITE anime movie, I'm a little disturbed by picturing Summer in the part. She can kick major butt, that's for sure, but she seems a bit willowy and ethereal for the part of Gally (see hardcore cyborg).

Also - Gally's supposed to be young and kinda fragile at first and then a traumatic experience leads her to be the hardened fighter she becomes. It just seems like it wouldn't be much of a stretch for her, cause you could explain River the exact same way (An extremely simplified explanation, but no less apt).

I think the story of Battle Angel - unrequited love and the path toward what it means to be human -would have more of an impact if it was played by a younger actress, and an unknown. Don't get me wrong...I LOVE Summer and think she's an amaing actress, but I'd hate to see her pidgeon-holed into "unlikely kickbutt heroine" movies.

At any rate, it's just an opinion, and I worry about the treatment of my favorite anime movie no matter whom they cast as the lead. I would hate to relate Summer to the butchering of one of my favorites if the movie turns out to be lousy.

i'll let those of you who are familiar with the source material to be the lead voice, cause I've honestly never seen the manga that it's going to be based off of.

James Cameron is the director and the movie will have a huge budget. Sci-fi action movies with impossibly huge budgets are James Cameron's specialty.

Sounds like they're describing Summer to a "T".

plus she does have an ear for dialects, when she was taunting Badger in one of the episodes, the cockney (or rather mockney) accent she copied off him was one the most utterly natural (and quite possibly accurate) ones i've ever heard coming out of a non-cockney actresses mouth, she's an absolute gift that girl.

then again, i've never had much faith in the sensible-ness of hollywood producers, so no pinning of hopes.

It's a James Cameron film, he wouldn't have agreed to do it unless they gave him full control and James Cameron has an eye for talent, he picks the best actors for the roles.

I dare anyone to find an actress with more grace and agility than Summer. While her body frame might be on the light side, I'd think it would be easier to build her up than make another actress look thinner.

An ear for languages and dialects. Hello? As River, she talks w/ Badger in his home town slang. Also when Summer played the Prima Ballerina - Waiting in the Wings (Angel S2), she did a decent Russian accent.

Ms. Glau sounds like a shoe in, but if she does too many elegant, lithe, assasin roles and she will be considered typecast and no one will touch her for anything else.

Dare accepted, I can give you two. Can you say Michelle Yeoh? How about Alexandra Staden? Neither of them is in the age group, but I would say they are just as graceful and have as much agility as Summer Glau. There's a whole slew of Chinese actresses with backgrounds in martial arts and acrobatics with grace and agility enough to fill a oceanic shipping container. Don't let your love for one actress blind you to the rest.

First, I dared anyone to find an actress with more grace and agility than Summer. Not one's just as ....
Second, can they act? I'll plead ignorance on those 2 names given. But Summer can act, somethin' fierce.
Third, I don't even know the story for which this movie's being made, so I really have nothing to go on other than what was posted.

Heck yeah I'm biased, and proud of it! But if Summer doesn't fit the bill for what Cameron is after, then I'm sure he'll make an excellent choice to the benefit of the movie.

I'll have to say that I agree that Summer fits the bill for this one. She is graceful and agile, and she can act and has an ear for dialect. I too remember the episode where she breaks into Cockney to Badger without breaking a sweat...it came natural.

Scorpion does have a point. The second actress named I have not heard of, but Michelle Yeoh is one hell of an actress (she was in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon as the "love" interest of Chow Yun-Fat). However she is not in the age range. If this is a show based off of anime, and they are looking for an oriental type actress, I would have to suggest Zhang Ziyi (who was also in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon...the young girl, and she was in Hero with Jet Li). She has beauty, agility, an athletic build, grace, and she can act damn good. One of the best actresses to come from that side of the globe IMHO. I'm not sure how well she'd do with dialects however, since most of what she does is oriental movies and is learning to speak English.

I do have to say that I think Cameron would be a fool not to give Summer a look.
