ROKK

I just finished watching Firefly for the first time and found it to be superbly entertaining. A friend of mine asked if I had seen I said no and he let me borrow his series and from the first episode I was hooked to the point that I couldn't stop and pretty soon the weekend and the last episode was finished. I had never heard of nor had I seen any of the episodes and just found out that the series was cancelled for some absurd reason. I just wanted to write that I totally enjoyed every minute of it and wish that it was still around, after finding out that the series was cancelled I found out that there is a movie being released so I can at least get another fix. I know this is longwinded but I want to put into writing what I thought about Firefly. Thanks.

Yea!!! New pretties!!! And our ranks continue to swell...

Seriously, its always good to see new people, and since you've been here, you've not only got yours hands on a huge information source for Firefly and Serenity, but the people here are nice to boot!

Well...I'm not sometimes...but most of the time...and most of the people!

Welcome, Rokk, you're gonna love it here, I do and I'm gettin' so I can't say I'm fairly new now.

Everyone has the same experience watching "Firefly" it seems. It's addictive! I saw it on SciFi where they are playing the reruns and fell in love and like you, once I got the DVD's I couldn't stop watching. Now, I am waiting for "Serenity" to come out on DVD the 20th, can't hardly wait! I saw it multiple times in the theatre but... I need to see more "Firefly"! As soon as possible!

Have you heard about the comic books, and The River Tam Sessions and the great books that are available too? You are also going to find this website the best resource for everything "Firefly" related. Everyone here is great too.

Thanks to all for your friendly responses and the welcome. You are corrct in saying that there is a lot of information to find here and since I am so new it is kind of overwhelming to say the least. It would also be correct to state that I am absolutely hooked on this show and what a terrible let down is was to find out that the show had been cancelled and the hope that the DVD will be out soon to give me my next fix. I live in Alabama and I don't think it even showed in my town but as I said before there are people who know about it here and I will continue to share what I have experienced as well. Thanks again for your kind words and may others enjoy Firefly as much if not more than I have.

Well DUH!!!.... I'm just kidding. I'm in the boat of... "I saw the movie Serenity first. Remember it being a show I didnt watch called Firefly. And went back and watched all the episodes in 3 days, thus becoming an addict". So I wonder, How many people are fans that never saw it when it was on the air? I mean, I've turned no less than 4 people into browncoats. I wonder what kind of ratings it would get with the Big Damn Following that it has now.

Another newbie "de-lurking".
Have been scanning fireflyfan for a couple of weeks. What a Big Damn Site! So much to see and do.
I came to Firefly thru a recommendation from someone on another list I frequent. What a fantasic show. I never saw it while it was running and just can not believe it was cancelled. After all the home runs Joss hit they cancel this show, ridiculous.
I still haven't seen all of the series (aren't I lucky) but have ordered both the BDM & series.
Anyway I have decided to have Serenity's chop/"nose art" painted on the back of my leather flight jacket, just like the WW 2 bomber crews. So I need a good, clear copy of Serenity's nose art to give to the painter. Would anyone have a idea as to where I could find this?

thanx in advance,

arclight

Myself and my girlfriend watched the movie in the theater just before it leaft the big screen and since then we have been hooked. We immediately purchased Firefly and watched the whole series in a mater of a few days. It is the best show I have seen that I can remember. We have both signed the petition to bring it back and are anxiously hopping it may come back in one form or another.

Welcome aboard Rokk. You state that you are in Alabama, not too far from Georgia? If not you may want to look up a little thing called Dragon*Con. It takes place around the beginning of Sept. in Atlanta. In 2004 we got Nathan, Adam and Jewel. In 2005 we got Adam, Jewel, Ron, and Morena. Who knows what is in store for 2006, but surely a few of them will make it, and the browncoats always have a good time there.

I did not know that there was a petition and of course I would like to sign it. Anyone know where I sign up? I have and will continue to spread the Firefly word. In the meantime I want to watch all the episodes again but I am holding off to make it that much better (sheesh). I am also glad that others feel the same. Peace to everyone.

DISA

Hello, just wanted to make good use of this thread and say hi too since I'm new

I saw the movie first. Absolutely loved it, but didn't think of getting the series at the time.

The I fell sick, and my very shiny husband brought the dvd boxset home to make me feel better and guess what, it worked ! Although it backfired a bit on hubby now he has to share my affections with Captain Mal.

So wish they'll make more !

Welcome, all newbies! Remember, you now have to perform the sacred initiation ritual which is... to make more Browncoats! Trust me, it's as easy as falling out of an airlock.

DANCER

Hi, I too am a "newbie" since September when I first saw Shindig and was hooked about 10 minutes into the show. Went out and bought the dvd set, had to pay double because the movies was out. Thats ok, it was worth it. Saw the BDM several times and cannot wait for it to come out. I even found and bought me a Capt. Mal action figure! haha I love the characters, MAl and River are my faves...I think they should get together, both are hurting and would heal each other. When i watche Heart of Gold, Inara makes me so mad in the end, she cut Mal off before he could finish talking to her. What a chicken! Maybe she would have to let go of her emotions and say she loves him too. I would have already jumped the man myself..

IAMLOSTINSPACE

New guy here as well (in Australia, that is)

The problem I see with Serenity in Australia is that it wasn't marketed AT ALL! The only reason I knew about it is because of chat on another sci-fi chatroom that I belong to.My first reaction was to investigate a little and then go and see the movie. Unfortunately, the movie never screened in my local cinema or any of the others that I went to (I happened to travel from Newcastle to Townsville that month and I looked). It only showed in the major cinemas in the major cities.

I was really disappointed with not being able to see it (and still haven't) but it was probably that fact that made me buy the dvd boxed set of the series (something I rarely do, and NEVER without having already seen a show) so that I could check out what all the fuss was about.
I loved it. Can't wait to see the film on the little screen (only option I have)and hope to hell that they manage to make another series.

Just another thought, I can't tell the last time I think a FOX exectutive made the right decision with TV, so don't think they're out to get you, they're just out to get the lowest common denominator's ratings.... and if you think I'm biased, remember, FOX is owned by an Australian.

By the way, the television series has, to my knowledge, never aired in Australia and only came out on dvd after the film screened.

I don't know if there is still any point signing a petition (the show having been gone so long) but if someone can point me in the right direction, I'll be on it.

Boomshanka,
Bill

I would still like to sign it to get my vote in (selfish huh?) and I know it can be done because they brought Family Guy back into rotation and who would have thought that would happen? I have really enjoyed reading everyones reactions to the Firefly series and comments in general it is really nice to have so much in common with so many people. Peace be with you all.
