I promise, this is a Firefly related question. I'm pregnant with baby #2 and if it's a girl, I'm naming her River. Does she have a middle name, or does anyone have any ideas?

Nothing wrong with "Tam" as a middle name, it seems to me...

Ummm, lemme see...

Tam?

Phoenix?

Dance?

Walken?

Brooke?

Jordan? (or, 'Thames' if you're Brit, or 'Styx' if you're all gothical (or Greek))

Syde?

Runs-Through-It?

Schmivver?

Okay, some of those weren't being seriously proffered; but you'll have to figure out which...

Nominally,

As far as Joss told us, she doesnt. River's a pretty name. River Tam Sherwood...I like it.

I know someone who names their daughter after the Firefly/Buffy verse. Morena Faith.

Well, if you don't want to sound too much like the show (and some people don't), I know a girl named Tamblyn, which I think would flow well with the name.

River Tamblyn Sherwood. Get it?

My wife and I have already decided that if we have another son, he'll be named Malcolm.
Why not do River Zoe or River Kaylee or River Glau or some such thing? Inara's a pretty middle name, of course it might influence her future line of work...
Your call.
Isn't naming kids fun?!

yup. I picked my son's name from a the movie Tombstone. We couldn't decide on a name, but then we had a scan and it said he was a boy. We were watching the movie that night and I said "What do you think of that name?" to my husband and he said "Ok" and it stuck. I almost feel guilty for not spending more time on something as important as picking my child's name. But hubby is totally for naming the baby River if it's a girl, so I'm happy. Lol, I suppose if River doesn't fit she could always be Vera Jayne. :)

WyattsMom,

I love the movie "Tombstone" and I think Wyatt is a fine name. Strong and good. I think River is a fine name for a girl too.

Can't help with the middle name though... I've tried a couple and... I dunno.

thanks for the compliment on my last name. I was so happy when I got to take my husband's name when I was married. My maiden name was Seamans, so you can imagine what it was like in Junior High. I'm thinking of Roland Thomas for a boy. I won't find out if the baby is boy or girl until around valentine's day, during the 20 week scan. So,I have a long wait ahead. I was named after a movie character who was raped and became pregnant with the rapists child. Yea, mom loved the movie and the character, and it was a terribly hot summer, and she didn't want to think any more.

I'm casting another vote for River Tamblyn. That's really pretty. *considers stealing it*

And as for the whole debate over whether or not you should name your children after characters...I think it's a great idea. Of course, my husband and I plan to name our daughter Kaylee Jayne if we have a girl.

Incedentally, we plan on Logan Connor if we have a boy...Wolverine and Highlander. Now THAT'S fandom.

I'd just like to point out that the usual English spelling is Persephone (no 'y'). With the 'y', the name ends 'phoney', which is not a good thing.

Anyhow, I really like the River Tamblyn idea. I don't think that name would lead to any significant grief among her young peers.

Besides, kids can make a joke of anybody's name if they want to. Just ask any Donald born after the mid 1950's. Perfectly good name ruined by an irascible cartoon duck!

Awww, such a good idea! One long day in the future, I'll certainly consider naming my little girl River. It's such a pretty name. And in high school, at least, rivers are important symbols in like, every book you read. She'll be a popular english student! Also agreed, a little martial arts go a long way! There's nothing to be worried about with name-calling. Heck, I was supposed to be named Stevie after Stevie Nicks (who I adore), but my parents decided to name me after their favorite Fleetwood Mac song "Sara". So, having a history of your name is just sooo cool! Always a good discussion topic. I kinda wished I was named Stevie now, it's cute.

I like River Tamblyn, or River Ariel, or River Miranda, But River Mei is such a cute idea. And she(possibly?) will be a little sister, too, right? Even better! It's sort of like 'River May', which I think has a nice flow to it. And Sherwood is a pretty last name, too!
