I know there is a way to submit manuscripts for Star Trek novels...

Does anything like this exist for Firefly/Serenity?

No. For one thing, Star Trek is an ongoing publishing program with over 12 books a year, and one that has been established for over 25 years.

Also, most media tie-in editors go with established authors for a variety of reasons. The deadline pressure tends to be more intense for tie-ins, which are more schedule-oriented, and there are several additional layers of editorial oversight and approvals, so much so that the last thing an editor has time to do is walk a newbie through the process on top of that.

Finally, Pocket only has the rights to two Serenity novels, for which the editor solicited a bunch of genre writers (including me) to send 5-6 page proposals back in May. We're still waiting for word from Universal and Joss on those. And as it is, that's a dozen proposals for only two slots.

Hi Keith,

Good luck by the way. :D

And thanks for the information.

Of course, we all wish for many more Serenity movies. If this is not an option, the verse as a series of novels would be a possible alternative.

I would rather have the verse as novels than not at all. If that ends up being the case, I could see a similar format to the Star Trek system for keeping a steady flow of books. I was just wondering if it already existed, and I just wasn't aware of it yet.

If the two original novels do as well as the novelization did, there's always the possibility that Pocket and Universal will do more of them. First, though, we gotta get these two done.....
