I was recently referred by Shawna Trpcic to the original maker of Mal's Firefly browncoats, when asking about reproductions. So I contacted him.

What do:

Nathan Fillion as Capt. Mal Reynolds in "Firefly"...

... Halle Berry, Brad Pitt, Natalie Cole, Shaquille O'Neal, Winona Rider, Marilyn Manson, David Copperfield, P. Diddy, and Sandra Bullock have in common? They all wear custom-made garments with the Jonathan A. Logan label.

Jonathan's customers come from all walks of life including luminaries from the entertainment, recording, film, television, and sports industries. They come back to him again and again because of his visionary designs, attention to detail, and flawless craftsmanship.

Located in the heart of Hollywood's Melrose fashion district, costume designers, fashion designers, stylists, recording artists, actors, athletes, and people who demand the finest come to Jonathan A. Logan to handle their projects.

His garments are crafted from the world's finest leathers, which come from Italy, France, New Zealand, Spain, Japan, and England. Every year Jonathan travels to Europe to handpick the best of the best. Every garment is hand made on the premises by Jonathan and his talented staff of pattern makers and tailors.

If you want the best in browncoats, you want Jonathan A. Logan.

He will make you a browncoat just like Mal's - which he certainly has experience with since he made all of the Firefly Mal coats - in sizes small, medium, or large. Custom sizes up or down are also available. The coats will, if available, include duplicates of the clasps which were cast for Firefly. Mr. Logan has researched and obtained leathers which will as closely match Mal's original browncoat as possible, just for the Firefly/Serenity community!

To get your Logan Browncoat, contact him at:

Jonathan A. Logan - Custom Leathers
8336 Melrose Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90069
Phone: 800-472-5984 or 323-653-9155
Fax: 323-653-9730

Prices which may be quoted for browncoats include:

Leather | Sizes | Price | Options
deer skin | small, medium, large | $1,200.00 | +$100 for custom sizing up or down
cow skin | small, medium, large | $800.00 | +$100 for custom sizing up or down
lamb skin | small, medium, large | $600.00 | +$100 for custom sizing up or down

Please reference this posting when contacting Mr. Logan.

Clasps are not available for sale separate from the coat.

For those who might be wondering...

No, I am not getting paid for this. Jonathan Logan didn't seek out the Browncoat community to sell his wares. Because of the overwhelming interest I saw from fans to have a real browncoat (as evidenced by the recent auction of Mal's coat by Shawna), I sought out the information myself in order to post it as a community resource on Fashionably Brown.

Interesting... I'd have to see what the repro coats look like before I spend half a month's salary on them but... interesting! :)

well custom made leather coats would never be cheap,
or (for that matter) reasonable....
but certainly there are fans who have paid more for stuff....

Myself I'd be satisfied with the coat of a brownish color
(people had found some fairly affordable ready made things in the past)

but this is definitely true to the title

The coats would look as much like the original as they can get.

They're being made by the *same guy* who made them for Firefly. Using leather than he has gone out and found which as closely matches the original as possible. And they will have the *same* clasps as the original.

How much closer can you get than that? :)
