I know this has been brought up in another thread but i can't find it for the life of me.

Just wondering if anyone has been in a Walmart today or recently. I just got
back, and went to the electronics section to see how many more of Serenity
DVD's they still had in stock. To my surprise I couldnt find a single copy.
Tuesdays are usually restocking days, and there was a few empty spaces in
the movie section, but I'm not sure if these were Serenity spots. They where
to busy to ask, but I just found it funny, that they seemed to be out, as
this was a Hamilton, Ontario location which is usually overstocked.

I then went to the Blockbuster attacked to the mall, and they had
only 1 copy left to purchase and they had just gotten in a few more copies
this morning. It seems to be selling, which is good.

Was just wondering if anyone else had noticed anything like this.

I know that this isn't dvd sales related, but I went to the local Best Buy today and I was the very lucky one who bought the very last Serenity Motion Picture Soundtrack. They were all sold out of it and Best Buy usually has plenty of them in stock.

Jayne: Are you saying River's a witch?
Wash: Yes, Jayne, she's a witch. She's had congress with the Beast.
Jayne: She's in Congress?
Wash: How did your brain even learn human speech? I'm just so curious!

The Wal-Mart near me before Christmas had about 10 copies combined left and after Christmas it seems they were all stocked up with them and even expanded their shelf space. Both visits to Wal-Mart they still had a few Firefly DVDs on the shelf but it is to be expected since they were selling it at full price. Target had it for about half the price down the street.

I went to Target after Christmas and they has only three full screen copies of Serenity left while all the other new releases were overstocked and they were also completely out of Firefly DVDs as well.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

New to this website...saw the "pilot" of Firefly when it originally aired, but it didn't quite grab me. Boy, do I feel like a fool now. Got Serenity (which we saw in theaters and loved) and the Firefly series on DVD for fiance's Christmas present. We watched Serenity, then the whole series one by one, then Serenity again, and then Serenity with commentary. I guess you could say we're hooked. If that doesn't convince you, New Year's Eve we watched an ep from 3 - 4 a.m. because I wouldn't go to sleep until I've seen one. I've been tracking the Amazon DVD sales, and they look darn impressive to me. I think good sales are only half of it, and raising awareness about how well it's doing is the other. Fiance has an entertainment news themed blog, and posted about it ( www.daviddylanthomas.com/blog), after I bugged him about it only a few dozen times. Hopefully he won't be the last. Aren't the newest recruits always the most gung-ho? :-)

I was in WalMart today and searched for "Serenity", finally found it with the older movies. They'd moved it off the new shelf. I asked an employee how they were selling and he said after the initial run on them, it had slowed down... but he said there was no advertising with it, nor any push, so he wasn't surprised. I asked if he had seen it, or Firefly, he said no, so I encouraged him to see it.

The Firefly slot was empty, all sold out!

This employee is bringing his Jeep to our shop, so I will keep after him, maybe he will fall in love (what...maybe... of course he will!) and start suggesting the movie to customers.

I wasn't too worried about it though, because my local movie place tells me it's flying off the shelf and he can't get it back once it's rented, and people are starting to ask about Firefly when they bring it back. So....i'm still encouraged.

This may take awhile. But like my Mom says, it's a movie based on a tv show that was on the air for too short a time, cancelled, several years ago now! It's amazing what the Browncoats and the cast and crew have done! It captured all these folks here. It'll capture more, we just have to give it time to spread.

Welcome Ninah148! My story is just like yours...saw "The Train Job" when it aired on TV (because I was a huge Buffy fan, and interested in the new Joss project), thought it was alright, promptly forgot about the series when it was preempted by...baseball, I think. So if that makes one a fool, then at least you're not alone.

Serenity was what got me, though, and like you, my husband and I can't get enough. As for the DVD sales, I think they're still doing good. But just 'cause Christmas is over doesn't mean us Browncoats should stop buying, and buying, and buying some more....

I can live off of Ramen noodles for awhile, methinks.

:-) Fiance just came upstairs and told me to read the blog post he had been working on. He put "Serenity" in his top 10 of 2005. His blog gets several thousand unique visitors a month...go Team Browncoats! I see it's still holding strong on IMDB's best of 2005 polls too. I was wondering if there was enough Mandarin to shoehorn it into the "Foreign Language Film" category too! (I decided that was a bridge too far).

Thank you, meimeimeg, I try every chance I get, I really do.

I also bought a Fullscreen copy of Serenity today... just to compare, I already have the widescreen copy. I know, I know... but every little bit helps.

You're right...about the buying Serenity after Christmas.. I plan to buy Serenity and Firefly all year as gifts every month. I have lots of family and friends, and I'd be buying them a gift anyway... what better gift can I give them but this wonderful 'verse.

And I LOVE ramen noodles

Had to go to the local Wally World after work to pick up a few things and I went by the electronics area. Couldn't find Serenity anywhere-no Firefly either. Clerks were busy so I couldn't ask either.

Recommended Firefly/Serenity to a LCSW (licensed social worker-he specializes in counseling teenagers and is in a practice with other LCSW's, psychiatrists and developmental pediatricians) that I know. I'm interested to see his opinion of Summer's portrayal of River.

I also keep looking at the Plasma/LCD TVs to see if they have gone down in price any. I'm lusting after one like I lust after Nathan!

Good news on this end. My girlfriend just walked in and gave me a birthday present 2 weeks early - the new SERENITY dvd!!! She picked it up at Target, I'm not sure how they were on stock...

For background, I'm a new fan. I never even knew about the original series because I hardly ever watch TV. I was hearing good things about FIREFLY on a gun forum that I frequent so my interest was piqued, and then when I saw the movie I really wanted to check it out.

The aforementioned *great* girlfriend got me the FIREFLY dvd series for Christmas. We watched all of it this week and we are both hooked!!! She loves it as much as I do.

It is a travesty that a show this good has ended. I'm heartbroken.

For what it's worth, the Sam's Club in my city (Irvine, CA) has prominently displayed Serenity near the front of their DVD section ever since it was released.

WHITEFALL

Well I saw some of the eps when they originally aired (hell, i still have 3 recorded) and I got the DVDs the Christmas of '03, been in love since then. Anyhoo, got Serenity, and another copy of Firefly for Christmas... so now i have a lending set :)

Just today, my friend who'd really wanted to see it gave it back to me (she watched it over Christmas, loved it o'course) and it was so liberating to not have to think twice about giving it to the next person who wanted to borrow it: a fan of cowboy bebop (kinda-sorta similar anime show, good to bring up with anime fans) who was interested. Ever since the movie came out, i've been proverbially swamped with people who want to watch the series :)... though swamped means about... 5, but still nice to have them ask of their own accord.

I survived a day in Whitefall and all I got was this lousy signature!

On Monday night I went to try and buy a copy of Serenity using a BlockBuster gift certificate I got for xmas, and every BlockBuster in my area was sold out. Also, at the store I visited all but 3 copies out of say, 75 were rented.

I was pretty amazed.

So in Halifax, Nova Scotia, anyway, sales are looking pretty good.

(6 BB locations sold out, I'll take it)
