MATTIE

My name.... Humm.... Well, like many others, I needed a name fast, and my real one just wouldn't do. I wanted an appropriate 'verse name, which could have been anything, but I sat here for about three minutes racking my brains trying to think of one.
Then it hit me. In the episode The Message, Jayne recives his fantastic hat from home, along with a letter. He proceeds to read the letter out loud. It says something about a member of his family being ill--Mattie.
To me, Mattie is a sibling to Jayne, even if that's not really the name he says. So, I guess you could say that I'm claiming a relationship to a member of Serenity's crew.

Wacky fun!

Mine spawned by the Peter Straub book "Shadow Land"... In the book there is a scary ghost type thing called "The Collector"...

ShadowsBite - Which is a book by Stephen Dedman... awesome book I might add...

DARKEYES

When I used to play D&D (I've since moved on to sci-fi rpg's which do far more to captuer my interest) my character was inflicted with cursed eyesight. The outward signs was that basically he looked like he never slept. He had children, and I roleplayed most of them, each carried the curse and the surname "Darkeyes".

SERYN

er, crazily enough, can't remember why I started using this name, it was when I was a kid, before I even saw a computer.

A serin is a very small british bird, for some reason we had to choose names of birds, my sister chose Robin and my best friend linnet.

Of course theres a grand love in my family for using y's instead of i's, so Robyn, Lynnet and Seryn.

All my emails and other user names are variations on this, Seryndippyt, Serynity, and even the god-awful Serynade (I was desperate) the only one I had different was Annyaenne (two-year-old for 'aunty Helen')

ta daaaa, not too interesting really.

Obviously outclassed by modern equivalents, as indeed I am myself, I'd still choose it because of the hoot that comes from something that will go fast, but doesn't mollycoddle (or come to think of it, does not give half a hump about the continued survival of) the rider.

KOMELION

Well mine handle comes from a kid in my old eighth grade science class. This kid started to free style about me, “Maxamillion, he’s a chameleon, from Vermillion,” something like that. I thought to myself, “Hey, I like that chameleon part.” Not knowing how to spell it I looked it up. “I don’t like the spelling though.” So I changed it to komelion. I made it shorter and easier to spell. Also, chameleon was already taken at hotmail.

GLOBLABSURDITY

It's come to my attention that the world itself is uniquely absurd. Hence the globl (worldwide) and the absurdity. The 'a' is omitted for artistic flare, or some such? Absurdity in life is what keeps me happy. Literally. I need to laugh so as not to cry. The more absurd the better. So as not to define myself as a cynic--I'd rather be considered as an absurdist. How's that for creating a new frame of thought & being.

I am a Graphic Designer. My "company," through which I do my independent projects, is called Soapbox Production & Design.

(Traditionally, a soapbox is used to stand upon when making a declaration or tirade of opinions.)

My Graphic Design Instructor forced (read that again, forced) me to change my email address. (Apparently idaho_stallion wasn't "professional" enough for a screen name. Pfft!)

I settled on the_soapboxer based on my "company." (I'm clever!)

SAMEERTIA

I originally wrote Ertia as a character in a sci-fi story, that evolved into a novel, that then fell by the wayside, and then later was made utterly obsolete.
(For more on that, check the essay on my website entitled "Too Late. Or How Joss Whedon Stole My Man")

http://home.ripway.com/2004-2/75835/toolate.html

Anyway, I started using Ertia's name when I started writing fanfiction on the web...err...a ...ummm...LONG time ago. She became my Highlander identity, and and then she really became, well, me. Or I her. I'm not sure how that worked.

I registered here as Ertia but then when I went to log in it kept telling me I didn't exist, so I re-registered as SameErtia, hoping that people wouldn't think there were two of us.

NUCLEARDAY

lol, some good interesting stories in here, so i suppose I'll share as well.

on my good days i fancy myself as something of a writer. years ago i was working on a book, and i can't usually start on anything until i can come up with a title: a ways of focusing my energy i suppose.

anyways, it was a post-apocolyptic story in the vein of Mad Max, etc. when i can come up with them, I like titles with double or hidden meanings, so i was playing around with words, and came up with a New Clear Day. (new and clear... nuclear, insert nerdy snorting here.) kinda cheesey and not so clever but it sort of stuck.

long story shorter, it was around the time i first got an online-capable computer. the spelling tends to change alot, and after countless rough drafts the gorramn story never seems to get done, but the frelling name never seems to go away :)

i also tend to go by the handle gibson grey at times, which has a much shorter story. gibson = both mel and william gibson, and grey is the surname i've used for roleplaying since i was like 6 years old.

RHYIANAN

The story of my name isn't too interesting. In third or fourth grade, I read a book where the queen of the faeries was named Rhiannon. Something in the name drew me and it immediately became what I called myself in any game I played with my friends. However, since I had never seen or heard of the name, I mispronounced it, saying ri-ON-an instead of rye-AN-on. As I grew older and found out my mistake, I still liked my version better, so I tried to find a way to spell it that would reflect my pronounciation better. I don't think it quite worked, but it's closer.

Wash: Yeah, but psychic? That sounds like science fiction.
Zoe: You live on a spaceship, dear.

my name comes from the dragonlance fantasy series, dunno if neone here has ever read any of those books. but during middle school a friend got me addicted to those books, and id read em nonstop. neway one day i was looking for a name for a game and i started using dragonfear. dragonefear was the term used in the series for the fear that people felt whenever dragons came close. it wasnt really magic, i dont remember exactly how the books explained it, its been ages since ive read them, but it was pretty much just the feeling of terror that people felt when the dragons came. the number is simple enough, just take them from the top right of the keyboard. its usually either 987 or 88 when i make profiles.

First off I just wanted to comment on this, when me and my friends would play Goldeneye on the N64 my cousin would always forgo weapons to play as The Slapper. Since the default weapon was the karate chop.

My name:

Fred, I was homeschooled for the majority of my school career. When I was dumped back into public school in 8th grade there was already a Jeff in the class (my real first name is Jeff) so one of the other kids called me Fred. The name stuck and to this day I think there are people from my school who still think that that is my name.

Giblet comes from the fact that I used to play lot of Unreal Tournament, I was much better than all my friends so I usually ended up killing them easily (one game of Quake 1 ended with the score 20 to 1 my lead). When a body blows up in a shooter the pieces are called gibs, hence fredgiblet.

Stupid, but no one else uses it so I keep using it.

EDIT: I got the idea to Google my name from this post, everyting that came up is from me, though I don't specifically remember it all.

My favorite book is Kushiel's Dart. It is the story of a courtesan who is also a spy. The main character is a whore (In the book they are called Servants of Naamah) who reminds me very much of Inara. Great tragic fantasy novels.
So SERVANTOFKUSHIEL just kinda fit.

P.S. A little extra - Kushiel is the god of pain and redemption in the books.
