It seems like the best shows get cancelled, while drivel like CSI or 24 just keep on going and going...

Here are my favorite shows that only had one or two seasons before getting cancelled

1. Firefly (duh)
2. Boomtown

umm, actually I'm all out. Some good suggestions would be welcome though. Make sure that it's available on DVD so I can actually check them out

There was a cop show on about, man, almost 10 years ago now, maybe 8, called High Incident that I really liked...it didnt last more than a season, maybe a season and a half...

the first BSG series has to be up there, and of course I am a Firefly nut...

I also really liked Tour of Duty...it lasted 3 seasons though, so maybe that doesnt count...it ended though in a very melancholy way, where you didnt know what would happen to most of the characters...but, given the way the real vietnam war ended, maybe that was appropriate

hmmm...i am sure there more...

Hell, I'll throw in Magnum PI

if that show were still on I would watch it today it what would be like its 24th season

Lots. It seems if I get into a series that's really good, it's gonna be cancelled

Firefly
Angel
Now and Again
Dark Skies
Dark Angel
Roswell
Freaks and Geeks
Harsh Realm
Millennium (True it was going downhill, but there were so many things left unexplained and it never got to see the year 2000!)
Alias (Though, I haven't seen the new season yet so I don't know if it deserved it or not, but even so, as much as season 4 was an improvement on the third... The first two years can't be beaten)
and lastly The Invisible Man - It wasn't perfect but it was an entertaining little show

1. Firefly
2. Joan of Arcadia

They both ruled, and were cancelled WAY too early on. We all know Firefly, but in JoA, Joan ( a girl who talks to God, although reluctantly) was about to fight the devil. It was an amazingly well written, great show.

The three TV shows that I've enjoyed enough to actually buy them all on DVD were all cancelled :(

1. Firefly (gorammit!)
2. Futurama (hopefully coming back but still, this was my first fanboy love)
3. Invader Zim - Invader blood courses through my veins like radioactive rubber pants! (had to import this one from the USA but I've got the full DVD set. Interestingly, seems to be enjoying a second life through toys and merchandise - something Firefly and Futurama are still lacking).

NEEDY wrote, in part:

Please stay away from "House M.D." and "Medium".

"House" -- or 'Hizzie', as I call it to make my teenaged kids giggle -- is a great show with a capable cast, led by the inimitable Hugh Laurie, whom I've liked since the Blackadder series. It's also got Sela Ward (Mmmm!) and Omar Epps. Unfortunately, it's on F*x, it's good and it's not 'Reality TV'; so it's already got 2 strikes and a foul tip going against it. So, please leave it alone, NEEDY (heh-heh). Everybody else can watch, unless you are likewise walking around with a dark cloud hovering over you and a scythe in your grip, like NEEDY.

F*x have another good one right before 'Hizz-ouse', called "Bones" starring Emily Deschanel (Zooey's older sis) and some guy named Boreanaz y'all may have heard of. Emily's pretty easy on the eyes, I've gotta say. Her team reconstruct and solve crimes based on human remains. She's even got a couple of computer geeks, which I'd swear was a tribute to 'The Lone Gunmen', if I didn't know F*x to be totally unsentimental about fan favorites.

"Medium" is on NBC and stars one of my favorite actresses, Patricia Arquette (exactly how many Arquettes are there anyway?). It's based on actual cases worked by a real-life clairvoyant, with the same name as the lead character. Good husband-and-wife-with-kids subplot, too, though not as good as Zoe's and Wash's was. Sigh...

So, I guess I hijacked the thread from 'dead shows' to 'live ones that still have hopes of staving off 'The Turk' '...

Cunningly,

zoid

P.S.
From the 'Where Were You When We Needed You?' department: F*x did not show new episodes of "Bones", "House" or their other evening lineups during MLB playoffs this year, in order to avoid them getting bad ratings from being moved around, preempted and re-slotted. That's a brilliant idea! If only they'd had it back in '02, we'd still have "Firefly".

Has anyone else noticed the lack of love between Fox and ME alums? They do seem to kill a lot of the shows they are involved in very quickly, eg. Tru Calling, The Inside, Wonderfalls. Are there any more?

I agree with the earlier post about Charmed. I watch it (not so much this season) and I'll be the first to admit that it is complete drivel.

The first season of Dead Like Me was really good. The writing and the storyline were spectacular. I really felt for George, and I was fascinated by the whole “Reaper” thing.

The second season, however, really stunk. The writing went downhill; storylines didn’t mesh. I totally flashed to Dark Angel and the way the second season killed the whole experience.

When the second season is that bad it is usually because something has gone awry within the production. With Dark Angel, it was 9/ll. The specter of terrorism made the continuation of the first season storyline difficult due to sensitivity concerns, so a new storyline was created, which in some respects might have been good on its own, but never quite worked, for me. (I suspect. I don’t think anyone has ever admitted that such problems existed, but it’s difficult to believe they didn’t.)

With Dead Like Me, the problems were just petty creative conflicts between MGM and Fuller, who ended up leaving the show during the first season. Gayheart left during the first season, which I suspect could be related. I don’t know the full details, but when the creator of the show leaves before the first season is filmed due to a managerial conflict that’s a pretty good indictor that Dead Like Me was probably cancelled because it had lost its direction.

Firefly
John Doe
Sonic the Hedgehog SATam.

Aye, the last one on the list may have a few people scratching there heads.

The real shame about this list is...two of them ended on cliffhangers.

I don't beleive I need to explain Firefly, but John Doe and SATam where both surprisingly deep intelligent shows. John Doe had you always guessing what was around the next corner. You never knew what the hell was going on, who anyone was, but you could still get a real sense of the story. John Doe was a great character to.

Sonic the Hedgehog is probably one of the more underrated animations out there. And funny thing is, although it is the most short lived out of all the Sonic animations, it was easily the best. With a compelling story and characters you either loved or loved to hate, it was one of the better animations of the 90's. Got canned after it's second season because the new ABC president didn't like it.

By the way...neither are available on DVD to my knowledge. Doe just hasn't been released yet, and SATam is embroiled in a rights dispute between DiC, Sega, Disney, and some other companies. John Doe is coming to Sci Fi though.

How's my firefly speak? Good? Bad? Fee-oo?

...It's fee-oo isn't it?

Yeah, it was.

There was a Firefly-ish following to it, though. The Joan of Arcadia fan site and the official Amber Tamblyn site (of which I am a huge poster). We emailed CBS, wrote letters, posted. Not as big a scale as Firefly, but still we tried to keep it.

Sadly, it was cancelled after 2 fabulous seasons. Hopefully Season 2 will be on DVD soon (I wish it was now, there's a scene in season 2 I could use for a school presentation).

Firefly
Clerks: The Animated Series
The Lone Gunmen
That's My Bush

I think everything's already been said for Firefly and Lone Gunmen, but the other two were just incredibly unfairly cancelled.

Clerks was cancelled after TWO EPISODES! Not only was ABC boasting it as one of their best new shows in 2000, but they decided to premiere it the same night as Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and Survivor. Clerks was very possibly the funniest cartoon ever made.

That's My Bush is a little more understandable, since they kinda had to cancel it in the wake of the September 11th stuff. I'm just a huge Trey Parker fan, so a live action TV sitcom about the president would be right up my alley.

Another show...Stella. It's on the bubble right now, but I'm very much hoping Comedy Central doesn't cancel it.
