Ok, the box office sucked hard for this movie, and they get another sequal? Don't get me wrong, I loved Ocean's 11. LOVED it! But Ocean's 12 was a bunch of . And it bombed at the box office because of it.

Damn this just makes me want to go out and do evil, unspeakable things to production companies sometimes.

Casting News: 'Ocean's Thirteen' on the Way

Even after the disappointing box office and audience response to "Ocean's Twelve," producer Jerry Weintraub, director Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney are prepping a second sequel to the original smash, "Ocean's Eleven." Variety reports that a script has already been turned in and Warner Bros. hopes to have the movie in production by the end of the year. In some ways, the movie makes a lot of sense for stars Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. All three have been focused on more serious, less commercial movies that will all be released later this year. Clooney is following "Good Night, and Good Luck." and "Syriana" with the drama "The Good German." Pitt's next two flicks are the dark thriller "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" and the dark drama "Babel" (see a trend here?). Damon also just starred in "Syriana" and will be seen next in a trio of dramas: "Margaret," "The Departed" and "The Good Shepherd." As none of these films are surefire hits, their agents are no doubt incredibly happy a third "Ocean's" is on deck to keep their clients' pricey fees in check. Whew.

Thirteen. Isn't that an unlucky number. Hmm. Well, this can give some hope to Serenity. If a piece of crap movie like Ocean's 12 can get another movie, why can't Serenity, which was a far superior movie.

Where is the justice in the Verse?
First the Indepents lose the war, and now this?!

Maybe if we had Brad Pitt prancing around in the background we would get a sequal too, even if Nathan and Adam could kick his arse, crying, all the way back to Angelina.
Argh I just want to go hit something now!

The problem is that everyone behind that project are big names in Hollywood whom rolls out the red carpet for them.

Someday, Joss and our favorite big damn heroes will be the those people. Except we'll go see their movies.

I didn’t watch Ocean’s 1 thru 12, so I doubt I’ll watch this one either. It doesn’t surprise me, though. Hollywood is a place where ideology and plastic boobs rules. Reality can sometimes make little sense to people who make millions pretending to be something they’re not. Some seem to hold on to it better then other, but Clooney, Damon and Pitt aren’t among them.

Ok..

WHEN are we going to start lying to ourself?

SERENITY bombed. DONE. That doesnt meen any other movie that gets a sequal bombed.

A while ago I heard alot of people here talking about how much underworld bombed and how stupid it is that that movie is getting a sequal and not serenity..For 1) it didnt bomb.

Ocean 12? Yeah it sucked, but that has NOTHING to do with it.

it cost: 110 mill
it made: 360 mill

And thats not counting dvd sales.

Accept it....it didnt bomb. Serenity DID. We lost that fight. Lets stop lying shall we?

I just checked the box office receipts for Ocean’s twelve, and it actually did pretty well, even if the critics were pretty much divided. And I actually did watch about 30 minutes of it when it came on Showtime, but it stunk too much to keep watching. Either way, it evidently did sell well. But it wasn’t me buying, which means it must have been the rest of you.

Damn you all and your Ocean’s Twelve watching selves! Just admit it. Don’t make us search for the candlestick in the library, you know you did it!

Ocean's Thirteen. The only reason there's another one is cuz it's full of "stars". Even if the last one sucked it doesn't matter cuz the majority of people that go see movies drool like idiots over the "stars" in it.

My guess is very few people saw Serenity cuz it didn't have "stars". But that's one of the reasons I love it. The actors aren't on TV every time you turn it on. They aren't in tabloids doing stupid shit. They don't demand $20 million per movie. I could go on and on.

Believe. It may be a couple years but we'll get our Big Damn Sequel.

Too true. If the Operative was played by Will Smith, and mister Universe by Brad pitt it would have been a success :)

Though, that would have sucked rather hard. (not being a success, but having those actors)

I guess I'm one of those wierdos who liked Ocean's 12.

There's a chemistry there; aside from the plot, the writing and everything, you can tell the actors are havin' a blast doing it. I got no problem watching people have fun, more power to 'em if they're getting paid for it.

And I liked the bit about the alternate plan being dropped 'cause they don't have enough time to train a cat.

Hey look.. it's Brad Pitt playing Brad Pitt in another Brad Pitt movie.

Ocean's 12 has to have been one of the worst movies I have ever seen. But like it's been said in this thread.. it has so many so "stars" in it.. they will keep making them as long as people watch it and it makes money. I even rented ocean's 12 on video to watch it based on the fact that I liked Ocean's 11. But I certainly won't be seeing oceans 13... EVER. Ocean's 12 was just an excuse for 12 overpaid hollywood actors to go on vaction for 4 months.

I am kind of torn about our BDH's ever becoming "big". Sure.. I wish them all the best.. but one of the 100 reasons why Firefly works is the chemistry between the cast. They OWN these characters. I would hate to think that suddenly becomming big (much bigger than they currently are) to one or two of them might have a negative effect on our little 'verse. Let's say if suddenly Nathan's name justified $10 million a film.. while the rest of them where only getting $500K or something like that. I know I might feel a little resentment if I poured my heart and soul into it as much as the rest of them but was only making a 1/10 or less than one or two of them was. I would hate to have something like that rip our crew apart before the story is all told. Actually I would like to think that no matter how big any of them become.. that they will forgo their "going rate" that they may typically be getting for other movies.. in order to fly again into the black.

I know Adam Baldwin actually likes flying under the radar.. but I don't know about the rest of the cast. I kind of selfishly hope that Serenity does fly under the radar.. with just enough fans to get us a few more movies or a return of the series.. anything it takes to get the story told.. and then AFTER.. they can all become hugh stars.. if that's what they want..

It's kind of wierd.. I want people to love firely and serenity.. but if it became like Star Wars huge.. I don't know.. it might just loose some of it's appeal..

Smaug..

I doubted those numbers too so I checked and they are correct:
Domestic:  $125,544,280    34.6%
+ Overseas:  $237,200,000    65.4%
= Worldwide:  $362,744,280

And like Andre83 said that's pre DVD.
With numbers like that they're probably thinking of Ocean's 24 already.
Interesting how much better the movie did "worldwide" than locally, like most of us knew it would be a stinker, and interesting how many of people said it was one of the worst movies they'd ever seen...

How do they get sequels? Look around, it's been answered a bunch.

$$$$$$$

Plain and simple.

As for why good movies sometimes have bad sequels, even with the same creators... well, movies are a crap-shoot sometimes. It's hard to catch lightning in a bottle once, much less twice. No one sets out to make a bad movie, but it happens to the best of them. Every director who's made more than a few films, no matter how highly-regarded, is going to make a flop, or at least a dissapointment, eventually.

I'm sure that if Joss keeps making movies, he's bound to make one that is a dissapointment, if not suck outright. In some opinions (not mine), he already has.

"Well, my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle."
