Yeah. I wanted to see Serenity in te theater but was told "not a kid movie" and as a single mom I could not afford both film and sitter so I had to wait. Saw the DVD Christmas eve thanks to already-addicted Browncoat and said "I am buying this." Didn't have to, I got it from him for xmas and every weekend since have been watching episodes at a friend's house til I can buy my own and play them til they are worn through.

New, and totally obsessed. I even bought stuff on ebay. I never buy stuff on ebay. I even turned on the TV to watch the DVDs. The TV exists for our PS2 and Gamecube these days. TV sucketh. And I'm boycotting Fox. Wonder what would happen if we all did?

Did I mention I am OBSESSED?

Wow, I feel horrible now. I too am a newbie...however I actually watched my first episodes of FF when they were originally aired on fox. (I think I only saw a few though....the ones that I can remember watching are Shindig, Serenity, and Objects in Space.) Anyways, a friend told me that there was a movie in theaters and I thought "I remember I watched Firefly, I remember I liked it, but I can't remember anything about it." So I rented the dvds and watched them all the way through (one dvd a night). All it took was the opening credits for me to remember the show. By the time I was done, I was ready to watch the movie. However, I had taken too long and it wasn't in theaters anymore. So I was left with firefly withdrawls until the dvd came out. And now they're back.

Wash: Yeah, but psychic? That sounds like science fiction.
Zoe: You live on a spaceship, dear.

Hullo to all, from another recruit. How did I find the whole Firefly enchilada, do you ask. Went to Amazon, randomly searched new fantasy books, saw the RPG with M. Weis listed as publisher, looked at that saw the link to the dvd, bought that, got hooked, bought the series.

This is a great show, with a great fan base. Proud to be a part of it!

I LOVE reading the newbie threads, it just warms my heart to see so many others finding (and loving) our little 'verse. Welcome, welcome, welcome to you all. And if my recently converted best friend/writing partner is out there lurking around these threads, it's time to post and make yourself known. You know who you are.

Hey all! Another newbie here who took the Serenity DVD-> TV show DVDs -> almost unhealthy addiction route to get here.

I suspect there is a new wave of fans like me coming onboard since the movie's release on DVD. Would have liked to have been there from the start but I just don't know why it never caught my attention until recently. Hopefully there will be more projects from the Friefly verse in the future.

Heya y'all - ANUTHER new browncoat here in the heartland. I've followed the same route as a lot of the new recruits - bought the movie on DVD, then HAD to buy the series, and the soundtracks, and the books, and...well y'all get the point. Been lurkin' for a bit, just readin' (to paraphrase a line from the movie, yeah we browncoats can do that, try not to faint).

Been tryin' to figure out what it is about this 'verse and I think I finally figured it. There are so many levels in the show/movie, not the least of which is this, we all have a basic and fundamental desire to be free, to go our own way as it were - and in the modern world we have today, that ain't an option for the most part. It's the allure (dayum ain't I a cultured browncoat?) of not having the "powers-that-be" not meddle, not having some nameless entity or group tellin' ya what ta think, how to act, what to wear/read/listen to - it's a way of life that is, pretty much for the most part, lost to us in our modern society, but something we all long for on a basic level.

Well anyways - glad I found this port, don't plan much on strayin' far from it. Here's hopin' that the verse finds a way to keep doin' the job, keep gettin' paid, and keep flyin'...

Might have been the losin' side, not sure it was the wrong one.

CANDLELIGHT

Hi Folks. I've been lurking here for about 3 months now, and have decided to 'just do it' and come on out and say hello.

I haven't been this completely obsessed with a show since Star Wars (before it was "A New Hope") and Battlestar Galactica (when Starbuck was a guy) I don't watch much TV, but I love my movies and I enjoy my science fiction, so seeing Serenity at the movies was almost a no-brainer. I was blown away. I just couldn't find peace until I had found out all I could about it, which of course led me to Firefly. And that was it. I was a goner. Within days I had bought the box set and had watched it in it's entirety within 24 hours after that. The people (they're not characters, they're people), the stories...wow. I now have the comics, the novel, the collection of essays edited by Jane Espenson, and when the DVD of the BDM is released here in Aust. Feb 8, I'll have that too. My kids laugh at me. But they sing the "Ballad of Serenity" and the "Hero of Canton" at the top of their lungs as well. Plus, they tell everyone they meet about it. They meet a lot of people.

This is such a shiny community, and I enjoy you all as much as I enjoy the 'verse.

CAPELLA

Hi,

yeah, I am new, too. And it took the show about 100 minutes or less to get me totally and absolutely devoted to it. (like Candlelight I did love StarWars and Battlestar Galactica in my long gone youth and I really love Farscape as well, but Firefly beats all of them!).

If you want to find out more about me, read my blog or visit my homepage (most of it is in German, I am afraid, I will try to change some of it to English soon). The fan video section is in English, though and I already have one Firefly vid up and hope for more to come, soon.

Keep flyin',
Capella

VISAGEEZA

Hi,

I'm new here, having literally just registered 2 minutes ago.
I just finished watching the last episode of the series (Objects in Space) on DVD and have yet to see the movie, but I'm slightly taken back by how I've been grabbed by Firefly.
Before last weekend, I'd never seen a single episode, and in the space of a week I feel like I've just witnessed the finest sci-fi series ever.

I'm a big Star Wars fan as well as a follower of Doctor Who and Galactica, and now I have to add Firefly to that list.

I won't put the others down, as I love them for different reasons, but as far as TV series go, Firefly has to be about the most entertaining 15 hours I've ever had.

Gorramn, I love newbie threads. It does my heart so much good to hear all the stories about Firefly love!

I've been gone all weekend and away from home (read: here) and I sorely missed everyone and I'm so glad to be back.

I hope all the new folks will be as happy here as I am. And I hope we get our BDM:2! I can't wait!

BLADEACHILLES

Well, brand spankin' new Browncoat here. I went to see Serenity mainly because it had Alan Tudyk in it (I loved Steve the Pirate from Dodgeball!), and because I'd heard a lot of talk about Firefly and wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I was hooked five minutes in. I started dragging all my friends to come watch it. When I showed my dad the movie and told him that it was based on a tv show, he went out that day and bought the Firefly dvd set.

I'm outraged that it got cancelled! It's been said before and I agree: we gotta start getting as many new recruits as we can to go out and BUY, BUY, BUY! If we start talking in cash people are going to sit up and pay attention.

Jayne is my hero...

MARKR

my turn...

been lurking for bout a week, time to say "hi".

saw serenity first, thought it was pretty good, but it didn't hit me straight away. then the next day i just thought "hey, i feel like watching that again" and i think that's where the slippery slope really turned into a vertical fall. got the series straight after, watched it 1 dvd a night (seems to be a regular thing with this kinda initiation )

then i watched the BDM again, and it was so much better when i really knew the characters.

for example, the first time i saw the ship while watching the BDM, i thought "cool ship, looks pretty smart"

then when i saw that opening sequence in the BDM after i'd seen the series, i got all sentimental.. "there she is, still flying"

wow.

anyway, hi from northeast UK
