When Jayne and Kaylee are in the cargo bay tossing away the reaver stuff, Kaylee picks up what looks like the catalyzer from "Out of Gas"? Anybody also see this?

well its good to know serenity got some spares from the incident, though seeing how it was rebuilt at the end, they probrably got a fair stockpile. I bet Kaylee had a field day picking parts from the Alliance bin.

Sorry, but no. That is not the catalyzer. Look closely at the part in the movie and the catalyzer in the show and you can tell the difference.

But don't feel bad, lots of people thought that it was. And it DOES look kinda similar.

Well... my theory has always been that it was the Operative that provided the parts to repair Serenity at the end of the BDM, Scene 19. This, I believe, is highlighted by the conversation he has with Mal wherein, after telling Mal that the Alliance is "not ...forgiving"... and Mal replies, "That don't bode especially well for you, giving the order to let us go, PATCHING UP OUR HURT." I mean, maybe there was some physiological "patching," but Serenity DID have the estimable Dr. Tam on board with a good-sized supply of meds so... what could they possibly need? ...oh, an engine... maybe another engine... a few other, ummm... unspecified ...parts...

Now I did want to add on to this one tiny, super-specific point I just made. People have been posting a wide variety of cool insights and here's one from me (besides others I've insinuated here, there & everywhere) (well... maybe it's not so "cool," whaddaAYEknow(?)):

During the final ship's repair montage, did anyone else see River, for a very brief moment, on her back, cutting & splicing & rewiring? Her clip is the 2nd one, right after the seque from the memorial service: the first clip is Zoe welding, then River on her back rewiring - it's very brief. Now... she's lying on a shelf above a floor visible below and, while she wires we see someone walking along below... it looks like a fuzz-focused Kaylee... then, the clip of Inara repainting the ship's name, followed by the (20th take of) the Kaylee-Simon kissing bout. Kaylee, when she walks beneath River's shelf, is fully dressed as she normally is, but... by the time we see her in the clinch with Simon, she's down to her, ummm... "Flimsy Burnoose," I believe they alluded to those sorts of things on not-so-old Firesign Theater records. That's when River pops her face out of the hatch in... the shelf she was lying upon (above Simon & Kaylee) when she was cutting & splicing & rewiring... She didn't just HAPpen to snoop in on their snoogling; she had been there the whole time - how could she NOT have heard them?

My conclusion is that the repair montage doesn't just have a series-of-related-images - it has them in a related order that tells its own story within that series of images.

Now... I can't tell you how gratified I am to see someone on this site - on any site - quoting H.L Mencken In that spirit, I shall "see" your 'Henry Louis,' sir, and raise you one Ambrose Bierce, to wit, and especially as your quote related to 'humanity,' "Man is an animal so lost in rapturous contemplation of what he thinks he is as to overlook what he indubitably ought to be. His chief occupation is extermination of other animals and his own species, which, however, multiples with such insistent rapidity as to infest the whole habitable earth and Canada."

Infest the whole habitable earth and, yes, even CANada "or your friends will think you're a stupid, inbred stack of meat."
