ok, so this is all self interest, I need reassurance (and maybe a big 'there, there..' hug)

Long story condensed, My mom is terroizing me with an old copy of SFX (the Brit Sci-fi special if anyone is interested)

Its terrifying cause it contains a full page (?!?!) photo of Chris Barrie as Rimmer, stripped to the waist, tied to a stake and being oiled up(from the episode 'Rimmerworld')

This picture freaks.Me.Out.

So she keeps holding it up and calling my name, or sticking it round my door and a hundred other little devious tricks.

The terrible thing to admit is I think it disturbs me so much because I think I actually fancy Chris Barrie

(Er, when he's NOT covered in oil.)

So thats the reassurance I want,

Does anyone else here have any random crushes on people? Anyone get really turned on by David Letterman? Does Marge Simpson really do it for you?

Please share. It will make me feel better...

(p.s - (I'm worried primarily 'cause the main thing i've seen him in is Red Dwarf - i'm not talking 'real life' personalities, lets keep it shallow people)

What scares me most is hearing that apparently some American women fancy Simon Cowell!!!!?????

Are you BLIND??!! He wears his waistband up to his stomach (presumably to hold it in!!) and he is so old!!! I'm sure he dies his hair.

Is it his accent that attracts you? His Attitude?? His physique and his attitude are a total turn off to me and , being British, his accent is just ordinary......

Can anyone explain to me why ANYONE would find him attractive? It's a mystery to me!!!!!

Adam Baldwin, now there's a different matter....... He's gorgeous!!!!!

But embarassing crushes - my first crush was on the Karate Kid (I was 12 at the time!!!)

CARTOON

It's natural to be attracted to people we don't know. Call it a "crush", call it "physical attraction", call it "lust", whatever.

What isn't good is for that attraction to go beyond that -- particularly, as we don't know the people, or much (if anything) about what they're really like.

As such, in my opinion, basing a feeling of anything more than "attraction" onto a person we don't know, is generally a recipe for disaster.

And, it just makes me shudder when someone says they "love" someone they don't know. Granted, they might mean "love" in the general sense, as in a "love for mankind". If they mean what I think they mean, though, it certainly isn't "love" -- which is unconditional, and not based on appearance.

Attracted to strangers? Yeah. I think that's normal. Anything more, though, no. I think it's dangerous.

Just my half cent.

Used to have a bad crush on George Clooney-especially when he was first on ER.

Alas, poor George has been replaced by our own Captain-Nathan. I'd never seen that gorgeous hunk of man until I saw the BDH in early October and fell hook line and sinker.

Didn't see Nathan on One Life to Live-I quit watching due to work right before Nathan started on the soap, didn't see him in Saving Private Ryan but as soon as I saw the BDH and then Firefly I went "oh my gosh-he's sexy as hell, a talented actor and from all reports seems to be a nice guy." Just hope he likes women about 10 years older than he is.

Other than that, umm...erm...i think Emma Watson. Is that wrong if i'm only a year and a half older(17)?
They both just seem like smart young women.

I saw Star Wars for the first time when I was ten and developed a serious crush on Luke - yes, Luke, not Han Solo. I was too young to know which one was supposed to be the sexy one. Also, when my parents found out they laughed their asses off because of course by that time in real life Luke was their age - fortysomething.

LOL you fancy Rimmer. Well I quite fancy Kochanski (the version played by Chloe Annet and not Claire Grogan)

Claudia Black (Farscape, Pitch Black)

Dana Scully (X-Files)

I also have a thing for Leela from Futurama. Ok I know she has 1 eye and she's played by Peggy Bundy from Married with Children but I think it's the boots :D

I also find Chris Barrie quite attractive, and have a crush on him from time to time.

I have a list of folk I rotate through. I have far too much on my plate to actually have a relationship, so I get warm fuzzies over folk that I don't ever have to actually converse with when I feel the need.

I also have had crushes on fictional characters (Moulder, not David Dukovny...Simon, not Sean Maher...Lucifer from the Poison Elves comic, and the like).

Well, it is... safer in some ways having a crush on fictional characters than real people.

My latest:

Kaylee (obviously perfect girl-friend material)
Finn from that Lost World series
oh, and about a half-dozen of the anchorwomen on the early morning news shows.

From back a ways:
Betty Rubble from the Flintstones
Hannah from S Club 7
and thinking back to the Futurama reference, I always had a thing for Amy...

please, warn me beforehand so i'm there to watch that...

yeah, the men I like always seem to follow trends - dark (the exceptions - Sean Bean, Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion) pale, slightly wonky nosed (Adrian brody, Zack Braff) pretty-eyed, creative and so intense as to be bordering on the insane (hellloooo Trent Reznor)

The longest, not-initiated-by-looks crush was Oscar Wilde, yep, gay and er, dead. But give me a time machine and i'm there! The other for similar reasons was Steven Fry, still gay, but at least he ain't pushin up the pretties.

Vera-Ellen Westmyer-Rohe.

If you've ever seen Irvin Berlins "White Christmas", you've seen her, and she could leave even old Fred "gasping like a landed fish".

A kind heart, legs to die for, pure poetry in motion - cut down by hollywoods insistance that she was "fat" because her legs were too muscular, leading to an eating disorder that made her easy prey for cancer.

She was a cherry blossom, of that there is no doubt.

CYBERSNARK

Lets see:

Cartoon characters:
Ami Mizuno-Anderson/Sailor Mercury (from Sailor Moon, 'cause I have a thing for brainy girls [Do I get points for knowing her full hyphenated name and that she's my age? --the show was made in '95, and she was 15 then]).
Demona (from Gargoyles, brilliant, mystically-inclined, utterly lethal, tragic, and beautiful [yes, even with the talons, wings, and glowing eyes]).
Sh'Lainn Blaise (from Roswell Conspiracies, 'cause Irish girls are my kryptonite. Seriously, female voices with Irish accents make me lose the ability to think straight).

And it's not exactly a crush, but if I ever meet a real girl who's half as "together" as Kagome (from InuYasha). . .

Live characters:
Willow (from Buffy, who got me hooked on the show after about three seconds of screentime).
Hoshi Sato (from Enterprise, because of the cuteness, intellect, and social ineptitude).
Trance Gemini (from Andromeda, back when she was purple and fun and huggable and had a prehensile tail).
Kaylee (for obvious reasons).

Tara (from Buffy) gets bonus points for both being cuter than Willow, and for earning a real-life crush on Amber Benson ('cause she's a reclaimed comic book junkie).

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha haaaaaa!

Fabulous, oh I feel so good. No I can see the attraction, despite the irritating manner and food obsession, theres a glimmer of something there to love. But I have to say, he's sadly over shadowed by Joe Flannigan and his 'big-balls swagger'

Richard Dean Anderson? drool, even after I saw him with The Mullet. Something of a real life hero as well, he aparently regularly throws himself down mountainsides for charity, seal saving and such.

Yeah, I think i'm being too hard on Chris Barrie, out of costume he's lovely,I'm sure Mrs Barrie is the happiest woman alive, he just keeps pulling all those faces...

When you've got a crush on someone you don't know, I'm told it's because they "represent" something for you.

I wonder what it is that we can totally get obsessed over characters that we know are fictional.

InuYahsa is totally hot. I can't resist a guy who needs to be saved from himself by the love of a good woman. Like, say, Mr. Darcy.

My crushes are usually on the geeks (Daniel Jackson, Simon Tam) or on the cast member with the Scottish accent. My preference is the Aberdeen brogue, but I'm not terribly picky.

Ever since I watched Sharps soldiers I have had the biggest crush on Sean Bean. He was hot as Boromir too, though I think he would have made a better strider, and he was sooo awsomely handsome as the bad guy in national treasure. I don't know if I like his accent or what, but I like him. Oh yeah, and the guy who played Harper on Sharp, he's hot too, though not in the same way. :P

I also like Clint Eastwood and John Wayne, which is sad because both those men are older then my grandad. They will forever be around 30 on tv though. Thats still kinda sad cause I'm only 17, but its at least closer.

Then lets see...... I alos like Bruce Willace. I had a sad dream about him last night. I was at the theator and met him, and he didn't like me...... Which is for me a very sad dream....... and a little disapointing.

Then I also like the guy who played strider in Lort. And the Hobbit who plays on Lost. And oddly enouph the guy who plays Hurrley on lost. He's just so cute, with his hair and everything. :P Which is kinda odd, cause I usaully, as you can probebly tell, go for action guys. Oh well, its not like I'm ever going to marry any of them. :P *sigh*

*Has daydream about Sean Bean.*

Oh yeah, then theres also Crokidile Dundee. Hes hot too.......

When I was a youngling--I had a huge crush on the leader of G-Force (Gatchaman). Then I decided to get real, and focused my interests on Shawn Cassidy, god love me.
My hubby owns my heart--but little "crushes" on certain celebs are ok--
For me they would be--
Mal (N.Fillion)
Kevin Spacey
Ed Harris
Robin Williams
I like intelligent men w/ humor.

For the hubby it would be--
Sandra Bullock
Renee Zelwegger
Kate Beckinsale
Jodi Foster
Various Anime gals

Also, I have a strange crush-like thing on X-Men2's Nightcrawler--go figure.

*Never judge a book by it's movie*

I often get the feeling that Mr Darcy is pretty much my perfect man, I can't think of a single thing I don't like about him.

Oh to find my very own live version.

But then again, it is odd, 'cause on t.v. shows I tend to go for the grumpy, sardonic closed off characters.

Oh.... ...yeah. Nope, no change there.

I think thats the only reason I liked SG:Atlantis - theres an overabundance of grumpy men.

The doctor is cute.

RDA, hell he looks good in plus fours! and just keeps on getting better.

Daniel Jackson I find to be just too damn earnest and sensitive, though much improved lately (thank you Vala) but extremely picturesque.

Sean Bean, first and lasting major crush. Sharpe... the Riflemans uniform... the tousled hair... the rough and ready accent...

oh, I forgot my crush on Jayne. Its a little wierd, and a bit embaresing, but there you go. Have you guys seen him when he was young? I saw his first movie yesterday. He was a huge 17 year old, kinda hot too. The movies called My Bodyguard.

And yes, there is just something about Sharp........
He is not a pretty boy, he gets in fights and cheets on his wife.... and yet he's so damn desirable.... perhaps this is a bad thing....

*sighs and thinks of Sean Bean yet again.*

If you play Nationstates.net check out the region Firefly.

SERYN

to be honest, I think its his rough and ready 'free' nature that makes him so attractive, and the uniform... Did I mention the uniform?

His cheating on Teresa was terrible (but at least he knew that) but as for jane, cheating on him with Wesley from Angel? She can go jump.

He's never been one I fancied, but I do have to say that in the briek period between him loosing the bumbling idiot routine and embracing the dark side, Wesley was a fine man.

Haha! I KNOW who you're talking about. I used to watch Red Dwarf on Public Television on Saturday nights. RIMMER!? My dad would DIE!

Anyway, I'm with Seryn about Mr. Darcy--especially the Collin Firth Mr. Darcy, though the new Pride and Predjudice Mr Darcy is pretty attractive, too. However, I also fancy Gerard Butler. I know he got a lot of crap about his "Phantom of the Opera" performance, but I SO TOTALLY envy Emmy Rossum! He really is so attractive, and, despite what some critics might say, he's got a decent voice. That, and the accent! Humm....
I have also developed a crush on Nathan. Yes, our Nathan. Well, what is a girl to do?
Embarassing crushes, though? Well, I pretty much get embarrased about having celebrity crushes no matter what--though I think that hardly counts in this situation. If I ever have had a wierdo celebrity crush, then I've forgotten it, squished it all the way to the back of my brain that it's evaporated from the pressure.
So, yeah, Nathan, Gerard Butler, Mr. Darcy. (Jane Austen was bang on, wasn't she?)

Wacky fun!

I dont think I have ever had a crush on some one I knew I could not have...

But I have thought some celebs were hot.

Does thinkin some one is hot count as a crush?

Saying that God authored confusion by creating Lucifer is like saying my sniper rifle goes out all by itself and shoots people 2 miles away so I dont get into trouble.

Since I'm among friends...Nathan, Nathan, and oh, yeah, Nathan. *sighs* I too seem to suffer from the character crush (Mal,Han Solo...) What can I say? I like a rogue. There's something about a guy with a gun, a title, tightpants and his own ship. In his interviews Nathan sounds like a great fan of sci-fi, so he's instantly attractive there. Not to mention the fact that he's gorgeous. (Who says good things don't come from Canada?)...*Goes off to daydream about Nathan...again*
