Today, I was at my Mom's for dinner with some others from my family, and my nephew was watching "Blast From the Past" on TV.

Now, I'd seen this film on TV several times over the past few years, but this was the first time I recognized Nathan Fillion. Granted, I hadn't seen "Firefly" or "Serenity" when I'd seen "Blast From the Past" previously.

But, I thought it strange the way he hadn't stood out to me on previous viewings of "BFTP", but after having seen "Firefly" and "Serenity", he suddenly jumps off the screen -- "Hey! That's Captain Malcolm Reynolds!"

"Firefly" does strange things to people.

BTW, my 16-year old nephew (who'd watched the "Serenity" DVD with me just 2 weeks ago) didn't realize who it was, even after I told him who it was.

Kids.

I've heard of that film. I even sort of recall seeing trailers for it when it came out. Was quite a while back, wasn't it?

It's always funny seeing actors you like in roles which you'd seen before, but didn't realize who they were.

I just netflixed "My Bodyguard" this weekend - it was sweet - very dated and after school special-ish (and Ruth Gordon (the grandma) is vaguely terrifying) but it was actually kind of enjoyable. A.B. is a *doll*... i was probably like two months old when it came out, but I can just imagine all the teenage girls out there workin' on their crushes a la' kaylee-girl *g*...

i watched Serenity with my father when i was home for Christmas break and the first thing he said when he saw Jayne (after laughing about the grenades) was, "Isn't he the guy from that movie, oh what was it called? old movie..." I was like, "My Bodyguard?" He was like, "yeah, that's the one. He was real young in that one. He was also in Independence Day too wasn't he? He's aged pretty good." So yeah, suprisingly my dad had seen it and remembered Adam well enough.

on a side note, i saw the end of Blast From the Past today, but only the end. No Nathan.

I was already out of school a year when it came out (I just Googled it)(AB and I are approximately the same age). (I thought it was a while back.) So, needless to say, I wasn't interested in teen movies at the time.

BTW, I just checked a list of Adam Baldwin films( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000284/), and he was in quite a bit. Of these, I've only seen five (and surprisingly, I've actually seen all of these movies in a theatre)...

Predator 2 (1980)
Wyatt Earp (1994)
Independence Day (1996)
The Patriot (2000)
Serenity (2005)

Sad thing is, I saw all of these before "Serenity", so I don't remember who he played in any of these films.

Oh, I also saw him in the recent TV version of the "Poseidon Adventure" (after I saw "Serenity", so I recognized him in that one).

while i've seen them, it's been years since i've seen Wyatt Earp and Predator 2, so i don't recall. In Independence Day he played one of the soldiers that was always with the President. When Bill Pullman asks if the glass is bulletproof, he says, "No sir." and then blows the alien's ass away after it kills all the doctors. he also shows up all over here and there in that movie. in The Patriot, he is the soldier that is forced to burn the church full of people.

Nobody has mentioned that he (Adam) was also Animal Mother in Full Metal Jacket. Love that movie...

Man, oh, man. I can't believe I've seen the cast of "Serenity" in so many other places before, and never realized it. Now, I'll have to be watching for these guys if these films are ever on again...

Alan Tudyk in "I Robot" (2004)

Gina Torres in "The Matrix Reloaded" (2003), as well as on TV in "Alias" & "24".

Nathan Fillion in "Blast From the Past" (1999)(see above), & "Saving Private Ryan" (1998), as well as on TV in "2 Guys, A Girl & A Pizza".

And, I'd already mention Adam Baldwin in "Predator 2" (1980), "Wyatt Earp" (1994), "Independence Day" (1996) & "The Patriot" (2000) -- as well as on TV in the recent remake of "The Poseidon Adventure".

I always remembered Ron Glass from "Barney Miller", as I'd seen that first-run back in the 70's. But, those other folks I'd seen and not even realized it was them.

He played the wrong Ryan.

Nathan said himself somewhere that all he did was come on and cry.

Its wierd, cause I remember him in it, as one of the guys they find before the Private Ryan, but I only have the vaguest recollection of therest of the film. Apart from the opening sequence *shudder*

I also remembered Alan Tudyk immedietly from A Knights Tale and 28 Days, he's kind of unforgetable, and then saw dodgeball and totally loved Steve the Pirate, I was heart broken when they forced him into normalness.

I wonder if you could play like 'six degree's of the Firefly Crew'
As in -Alan Tudyk was in I, Robot with Will Smith who was in Independance Day with Adam Baldwin who was in My Bodyguard With Joan Cusack who was in Looney Toons Back in Action with Brendan Fraser who was in Blast frome the Past With Nathan Fillion who was in Saving Private Ryan with...

'cept we'd need slightly more degrees.

does anyone remember Ron Glass from that Sinbad movie "Houseguest" with Phil Hartman. I actually enjoyed that movie. Ron's part isn't real big though. Throughout the movie Sinbad is pretending that he is a man named Derek Bond D.D.S. (dentist). Ron has a part at the beginning and end of the movie. He's the cultured high-society (snobby) real Derek Bond.

Hello! I'm an Italian browncoat, fan of Adam.
Was re watching on DVD one of his latest movies "Evil Eyes" (great little horror starring also Udo Kier) that I had the chance to see in movie theaters last September.
At that time I wasn't yet aware of the whole Firefly/Serenity world, so I couldn't know who he was...but yesterday night when he appeared on my PC screen (I watch DVDs on my PC, it's region free and screen's bigger than my Tv!)I couldn't help yelling "It's Baaaaaaadger!!!!" Yeah! Mark Sheppard plays one of Adam's character friends in "Evil Eyes".
It was so ruttin' cool to see those two together in a movie again!
I suggest you to go and rent "Evil Eyes"
Adam is stunning!

Ah, Alan Tudyk in "I Robot". It must be a weirdness, to be sure, to play the title character in a major motion picture--and yet never to appear on screen in your own person.

The only other example I know of is the late Keven Peter Hall, who played the Predator in the first two movies of that series. (He did appear "in the flesh" as a helicopter pilot in the first film though. Say, does Allen have a cameo as himself in "I Robot"? And if so -- where?)

And here I thought that I was the only one who watched DVDs on my PC.

Seriously, I don't own a DVD player, so I watch them on my PC. And unlike you, ayrad, my PC screen is smaller than my TV. I don't complain though -- the quality is great.

I watch DVDs on my laptop when i'm in the dorms because i have some killer speakers for it. Oh how i love watching the intro titles of Serenity on my laptop. it sounds great. the music is so crisp and beautiful and then the roar when she breaks into atmo sounds so great.
