There were meant to be more Serenity movies. They had them signed on for two more movies based on the results of the first but the first did not do as well as hoped. Granted the timing and advertising of Serenity was awful causing only a mediocre outcome in the theatres, the numbers of dvd sales and rentals is relativelty high and if we can continue that rise, then browncoatsriseagain aka andrew schultz has a great idea. Try to find his threads and read everyone elses ideas as well on his threads.

Needs some eggs and beans to go with the spam?

The only way to make Universal sit up and take notice is with DVD sales, and the way to do that is by converting new fans. Not by spamming the fans that are already here and trying to get us involved in projects that are not going to see the desired results.

Random Trivia - You can buy a dvd for the price of three cans of spam.

I still think a fund raising campaign, while good in theory, is still too complicated to begin at this stage of the game.

If you want to give money to relighting the Firefly, devote money each month to buying either the BDM or the series, and then give it to soomeone who knows nothing about it.
Recruit my fellow Browncoats...let Joss's stories grow our numbers.

Yup, I"ve heard that they all signed on for a trilogy, but I haven't really heard any hard and fast confirmation of that. Besides, such a contract would typically be a "one-way" deal; in other words, all the options are in the studio's hands. If the first installment is a hit and the stars try to hold the studio up for more money - BAM! - we've got you signed on for two more, right here on paper. If the first movie ISN'T a hit, then it's no loss for the studio, and no guarantee for the stars that they'll get more work on sequels.

Right now, I'm about piss-poor, but I've been toying with the idea of buying a copy of Firefly and Serenity on DVD to donate to my local library. It might not make tons of money for the studios, but it might well make some new fans, and they may go out and spend their own money on this stuff once they get hooked.

Our best bet is to keep spreading the word to them's who need to hear it. My personal set of Firefly DVDs is out on loan right now, trying to make another convert (one at a time, if that's what it takes). When it comes back, I'll watch it again, then loan it out again. The cycle continues. What I *won't* be doing is sending out mass e-mails to try to convert people, or spamming numerous boards to try to bully people into watching the show or the movie; in my experience, such tactics usually have the OPPOSITE effect, often keeping people away from the show and the movie, just because they were annoyed at being bombarded with spam about it.

Thank you, SameErtia. I've been holding my tongue (fingertips?) for some time now...

They come, they litter, and eventually they go...away.

Just found this site and I am newly converted fan. The advertisements for the movie Serenty were not well done. While I did not go to the theatre to see the movie, I did rent it and instantly fell in love with the writing and characters. Two days after seeing the movie, I bought the series. I am convinced and am finding that others, very much like myself, who did not know this show existed, are now VERY interested. I will usually pick up a book rather than turn on the TV, but THIS show is smart, intelligent and damn funny. You have another convert.

Welcome to the 'verse, VWBeetle!

I hope you'll continue to join in, we're a friendly bunch and we enjoy conversation.

On this thread's topic... it has been my experience that Firefly/Serenity sells itself. If you expose someone to it ( poorly done ads, no ads= no exposure) they fall in love. No one I've shown it to hasn't liked it, or LOVED it. Buy DVD's ( both show and movie) and share with folks. They'll go buy their own when they have to give your loaner set back! They won't be able to do without our BDH's anymore than we can!

The word will spread, it already is, like a virus.

I can agree with that. I decided to rent Serenity to see what it was like. And I fell in love with it and went out and bought it the next day. The movie made me want to check out the series so I rented those too and fell in love all over again. And a week later I went out and bought the complete series, and anything that has to do with firefly/serenity.
