We should send a copy of Firefly & Serenity to Bill Gates.

I mean, aren't there any rich Browncoats out there? Or are they too busy making money to enjoy this little slice of Heaven. This is something that my mind has pondered for months now. If there was a rich Browncoat out there, couldn't they help fund a new series or sequal to Serenity? They would be a very powerful friend, especially with the new Browncoats Rise Again project, which I'm beyond excited about.

Microsoft and Serenity

THE OPERATIVE is trapped against the railings, gasping for breath, unable to speak.

MAL
I'm gonna show you a world without sin

MAL places the disk into Mr. Universe's system and presses a few buttons. Image after image of dead bodies appear on the screen. MAL starts to walk away.

VOICE OVER
These are just a few of the images we've recorded -recorded -recor -recor -rec -rec -rec

The system begins to fizz and spark. MAL turns back in disbelief as the image on the screen fades into the dreaded blue screen of death...

MAL
Shee-niou high-tech alliance crap!!!

I don't know. Gates seems like a "geeky" type person. He'd probably like Sci-Fi. I don't know. Anyone read up on him? What are his likes and dislikes?

The big problem with this is -- actually getting the DVDs to him. Sure, anyone can send him something, but there's a better chance of finding a Reaver in the vegetarian line at your local restaurant than of him actually seeing it.

I happen to know that most "big shots" never see hardly anything (if anything at all) of the stuff sent to them. They have staff who opens their mail. And, the bigger they are, the more staff they have, and the more people between them and the people opening their mail.

Several years ago I worked as a customer service rep for a correspondence school. I'd open mail addressed to the President of the company. Now, between the president and I were my local supervisor, the department supervisor, and the division supervisor. Even MY supervisor didn't see the letters to the president, much less her supervisor (or her supervisor's supervisor).

That's just the way it is.

The only way to get something to Gates is if you know him personally, or know someone who has his ear. Otherwise, forget it. Some pee-on way down the ladder will get it and either throw it away or keep it for themselves.

I don't know if George Lucas would be keen on supporting our film, especially since many people have said that Serenity blew ROTS out of the water.

Inara: "That's because I love you."

Yeah. Lucas has the lucre to resurrect the show, certainly, but his ego would require his involvement in writing it, and his talent is way short of the mark.

Plus Lucas would flood the screen with bigger, brighter, and glitzier "special" effects. And a few cartoonish aliens.

Yes!
Bill Gates.
Everyone who has ownership at GOOGLE.
AND the entire list of people who get to vote for Oscar nominations. (I've already touted it with the two voters I know; although one was a fair easy sell.)
We don't want anybody but Joss to have creative control, though. I think we all agree on that.

And are you trying to tell me that a Browncoat Operation couldn't get copies of Serenity & Firefly into Bill Gates hands?
We are genious. We are talent. And we are SNEAKY.

He does make public appearances. There must be a way.

That being said, when I'm in jail awaiting trial for trespassing on Microsoft premises, ya all will come and rescue me, won't you?

Cartoon, that was an excellent analysis!
Solution: send hundreds (maybe even thousands), and flood the peons with them. Eventually everyone at the bottom rung will be converted, and will hand 'em upwards. Think of it as "trickle up" conversions.

I figure if someone's working at Microsoft, they probably have at least a bit of an inclination towards science fiction. To misquote Book, I don't care who gets the DVDs, all I care is that they get the DVDs.

As to whether Gates is an SF fan, there's a famous clip of him dressed as Spock at some major Microsoft event.
