Throughout the series Simon is made the butt of many jokes. I think more than one crew member calls him an "easy mark". So when the opportunity arises I think he finally gets one over on his shipmates.

He makes Mal, Jayne, and Zoe learn all of that medical jargon but when they get to the hospital it proves to be useless. The people at the front desk don't seem to care what happened and there is no one in the morgue to even question them.

Now I know Simon is pretty anal and wants to cover all the bases but I think he knows they won't be questioned at the front desk and the chances of anyone else caring about a couple of corpses is slim.

Does anyone else think he made them memorize those lines just to get a little payback? I like to think he had a nice smirk when they left medical bay on Serenity.

Maybe it's just that a trauma surgeon (top of the food chain) simply doesn't realize that most of those protocoll details are sometimes overlooked for the sake of efficiency.

It's not like he ever worked the front desk. He knows what's supposed to happen, but not the reality of it.

Considering how risky and important the job was, and how easily they could have blown their cover, I doubt Simon had practical jokes in mind.

He's a criminal mastermind. If he's going to get Jayne, he's goin to REALLY get him, like in "Trash"! :D

I know from work that it would really be needed to know. Sometimes when things are slow people start caring about stuff they otherwise wouldn't, but when things are rushed they don't give a damn.

For instance, its like working at the theater. Hundreds of people bring their own food, and we could care less, but one time a guy ordered a pizza in the movie, and the pizza guy tried to deliver. Wasn't going to happen, sorry. Most of the time we let the food thing slide, but sometimes we check, and when we check its better if you had it hidden in your purse, were we don't ever look, then in your hand.

The medical people didn't ask, but they might have, and then Mal and them woulda needed something to say.

If you play Nationstates.net check out the region Firefly.

Bwahaha, what a great idea! I never thought of it like that. I think though, that Simon's character would call for him wanting to "cover all the bases," as you said. He would want to be critically sure that nothing is left out. I think he prepared Mal, Jayne, and Zoe with memorizing the medical jargon just in case the doctors and nurses did care about the two corpses. After all, Simon worked at Capital City on Osiris, he hasn't worked at St. Lucy's on Ariel before. I'm sure the different facilitiues would have slightly different schedules and protocols.

Though I do think that Simon did give a little smirk after his little training sessions. Anytime he can get the crew to listen and obey his commands is a time he'd cherish, though he's a bit too professional to do it just for kicks.
