Hi all.

I have named my sailing boat SERENITY.

It'a an "X99", a 10 meter racer for a crew of six sailors.

I am thinking it would be great to have the name printed on the hull with the full logo as on the original ship "Serenity".

Can anyone help? I need a high resolution picture of the logo/name (Serenity).

If I get that picture I somehow must transfer that onto the hull of the boat. Maybe it has been done already? It is easier to hot-iron a logo to a t-shirt, but this must also be possible...

Thanks for all help or suggestions.

Biggest I've found so far is at (1280x1024, but you'd have to snip it a bit)

Apologies for in-line link - I tried to make it a URL, but it wasn't accepting the BBCode tags :(

Quick question to the group... has anyone attempted to create an Adobe Illustrator version of the Serenity logo yet? It wouldn't be easy with the significant amount of subtle shading involved in the "erosion" effect but not impossible either. If this were to be accomplished then requestors like this could have this emblem size made to order.

My skills in Illustrator are limited but I may tackle this myself but only if no one else is currently working on it. Don't hold your breath though, this would take a few months for me to work on given my other projects. But, it could be fun and educational too!

At some point I remember that someone posted a link to a Universal site with all the Serenity images available for news articles and such. I had the forethought to download EVERY SINGLE image from this site before it vanished, so I have TONS of Serenity logos at my computer at home and I think there may very well be some illustrator files of the logo in there.

I'll check when I get home and post it here.

What you are needing is either someone to paint the logo onto your boat (plenty of custom painters out there)

I think the decals I sell would work as they are all weather automotive quality vinyl ( let me check with my vinyl sources first never done a boat before!)
the problem with my methods though is it would completely lack the lovely subtle color variations (which is why all my decals are a single color www.texasartcat.com/bluesun.html)

what colors are your sails? any thought to putting serenity on them?

Artcat81:

Bought several of your decals and put them on the back of my Blue Saturn Vue. I do have one suggestion though. The Blue Sun blue color is lost on the tinted glass of my rear window. It would be nice to have a rectangle of white vinyl behind the logo as seen in several episodes. If I could locate a heavy duty vinyl material in white around here I may purchase a replacement Blue Sun logo and do this myself. Just a suggestion... otherwise I really like your work.

Shiny!

Thanks.

The sails are white, but also often "upgraded" for newer ones.

The name must be on the hull.

I'll be looking at either hand-painted, or some kind of simplified sticker logo, maybe with the name and a silouette of the rusty disc and the chinese signs.

What are the chinese signs saying anyway?

hey there,

have you considered placing white vinyl behind the blue sun logo?
yes i have but that effectively doubles the price of the decal as is et the prices based on teh amount of vinyl used. its something I can do but have not made available in a massive way.

What are the chinese signs saying anyway?
I know one is tranquility, roughly they translate to serenity.

ok one more question (from me) how large are you wanting it to be?

If you can wait a bit for me to get it together, I can make available the 300 dpi hi-res version that was made available to bloggers via an ftp site when they were invited to the press screenings.

Actually, tell me what format you want it in. They have the source Photoshop file, complete with layers, etc. Or I can dump it to jpg or png.

Oh, do you want the promotional one like the one in this thread, or the one actually painted on the ship itself? I have both.

I am attempting to convert the logo to a vector format for you using Flash ( which has a very very good trace, if it works I'll post it.

'Might have been on the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

ARTCAT81. ok one more question (from me) how large are you wanting it to be?
Fripp21: Quite big, the name/text "SERENITY" would be approximately 0.7-1 meter in length.

THEONETRUEBIX. Waiting and format...
Fripp21: I can wait. The boat will go to the water late April. I'll have a few months for this project. I would love all formats, especially photoshop with the elements in layers etc. I have a friend working in the advertisment business. He will help me and he also have contact with printers etc.

DARTHVEGAS. Vectro format?
Fripp21: I am not sure how to use it, but sure I'll take it.

I'd be VERY interested in your Flash rendition (.fla format of course). BTW, the closest free font that sort of matches the "Serenity" string is Papyrus. This has been discussed in other threads. I downloaded it from somewhere (can't remember where) and it is very reasonably accurate. The best part is I have the ability to "explode" TTF text strings into their constituent components and peform further editing to get it "just right".

A vector version of the Serenity logo has now become my mission!

Fripp21:
1. The hull is grey. Light, light grey, bordeline white ("off-white" is the name?)

2. Saltwater. You do off-shore racing as well as racing on "olympic courses" with this one. Lots of fun.

Thanks for all the help and enthusiasm.

Feels like... a family.

Hi.

I will probably have one one each side of the boat/hull.

I could have it (one name/logo) on the stern, but I think it will be much nicer on the sides of the boat.

Keep flyin', and sailin'

ArtCat: Try some Texas Orange (Pantone 165C, I believe is the "official" color for UT) vinyl; it's probably as close to rust as you'll find. It definitely exist - I've sold more than a few Texas decals over the years. :)

Also, the closest thing I've found to the typeface used for "SERENITY" on the logo is a font called Papyrus. It's not exact, but it looks like that's what the logo typeface was based on. It looks like it was modified a bit, but nothing too extreme.

Here is the design my brother and I came up with

I would think the UT color as being too orange? Man, I wish they made rust vinyl because that could be way shiny!
