I was watching the golden globes the other night and I'm a media student. As I was watching they were all thanking everybody involved and their studios... and it occured to me... I'd love to get a big award when I'm older, preferrably while working on a fox production just so I could say, at the ver end of the speech, something along the lines of....

"...and, of course I'd like to thank Fox, who made all of this possible. I'm very grateful to them, but even now, I still don't understand why they would ever cancel Firefly"

I'd love for Joss to receive an award of some kind for Serenity, just to hear the inevitable Victor Borge paraphrase.

"I'd like to thank the fans for making this movie possible. And Fox, for making it necessary."

Of course I'd like Joss to win something for it. I was just thinking it'd be great if there was somebody who was famous who won an award that had nothing to do with firefly but they gave out to fox in their acceptance speech. It be hilarious and it'd give the show a huge boost.

Ohhhh, that would be soooo evil! I'll keep that in my mind, just in case I ever need to feel malicious.

Personally I would like to see one of the BDH win an Oscar and then become the second man or first woman to turn it down!

I hate Hollywood. The movie industry is being destroyed by greedy studios who are only interested in profit and by stars who play at being Gods. Look at the Oscars. Look at all the long limbs and straight teeth. Look at the hair and the cloths. All striving towards being that which no human can, perfect. People playing at being Olympians. That’s why I like English TV so much. You see all shapes and sizes. That’s also true of Irish TV but that doesn’t detract from the fact that our TV sucks (except for the Panal).

Also I would like to thank my mother who stood by me all the way as I wrote this rant. And also Anubis without who’s devine grace I would not be here today.

Who do you suppose is in there?

Hey, none of our BDHs exactly fell from the ugly tree.

Of course, the irony is that the Oscars normally go to the actor who makes themselves the most unattractive.

I think that the oscar going to the one who has made themself unattractive (eg. Charlize Theron, Monster) Is the oscars way of saying that we're not just asbout the pretty people... But also remembering that its very hard to completely change who you are from an acting point of view. Not only does it require an inordinate ammount of time in a makeup chair, its also very hard to change your body language etc. in order to be believeable as a person with a completely differant physicality. Id say that's prolly what the oscars are recognising... does create a great irony though, eh?

Joss has some fascinating things to say on this very topic. He was asked about it at a Q&A session in Australia (Why aren't there more full-figured women in your shows?) and described the way Hollywood totally prohibits any such characters. You can hear it in the podcast FireflyTalk #15. Bottom line: the entertainment media really are obsessed with beautiful people, almost to the exclusion of anything else.

I don't disagree on any particular point.
