How many of us are literally Browncoats?

I'm a somewhat recent convert to the 'verse. Two box sets and two BDM DVDs later (gave a pair to a friend of mine) I find myself spending Friday nights doing things like introducing Firefly to a small group of friends in style - we signed out a lecture hall with a big screen, projector, and nice sound system and made it through Serenity, The Train Job, and Bushwhacked.

Anyway, the thing that I think is most amazing about the whole situation is that I am, quite literally, a Browncoat. Four years ago I bought a dark brown waxed cotton field coat from L. L. Bean. It's getting a bit worn after everything it's been through, but I don't plan on replacing it anytime soon. I spent week picking it out, and a search this winter of outdoor clothing stores and catalogs didn't turn up anything suitable anyway.

Anyone else wear a brown coat in real life?

Wore my browncoat to the theatre when Serenity was first being shown.

I wore mine to opening night too. There were many fellow fans in there, and they envied my coat big time! After I came out of that theater and the people in line started giving me looks because of the coat I said "Like my browncoat? Watch Serenity and find out why I'm proud to wear it." Hopefully they took my advice.

Wore it on halloween as well.

I have a genuine leather brown coat which goes down to about 6 inches below the waist. It was initially my Dad's, and he gave it to me about 20 years ago. In that time, I've probably only worn it a few times, though. (I'm not cool enough to wear a leather coat.)

I'm Alliance.

All I got is a pirated series of the show that was given to me by a friend...but that sadly makes me more of a smuggler then all you browncoats are. I've also borrowed the movie from a friend.

Plus I just got a kickass black leather jacket...sorry kids, brown just isn't my color.

None of you can call yourselves browncoats if you havent pulled a knife on someone, shot a gun, or blown anything up. I've done all these things on more then one occasion.

Don't have a brown leather coat.
But I do have a brown corduroy coat that's the right length and I look good in brown, so I always wear it. My mom made me a scarf to go with it and bought me a Jayne hat.

I had a brown canvas upper-thigh length oilskin duster, but I wore it while I was a smoker (I quit four years ago), and I could never get the smell out, so I wound up giving it away.

My two favorite coats are tan (that's brown, right?) and actually a chocolate brown.

The tan one is for warmer weather, but the chocolate brown coat is for when it's not as cold. If you live in Minnesota, you know that weather changes quite often, and it's necessary to have different coats for different temperatures.

I made myself one, as part of the full Mal outfit. It isn't leather, and I had to dye it brown, but it came out looking dead-on. I wear it now and then.

dont generally wear a coat...im a "shorts in the winter" kind of guy...always have been...it literally has to be snowing or raining to get me out of my sandals...hey, those are brown! unless I am going to spend a significant amount of time outside, and its below 40 degrees, I do not wear a coat...and if its 20 degrees and the only outside time I will be spending is going back and forth to my vehicle, I am in shorts...

but i promise my heart is wrapped in brown leather...

I have a brown coat--though it's not leather, it's wool, and it's not, well, okay, it's not really a browncoat browncoat, but it works for me. It's brown and that's all that really matters, innit?
I also have a Jayne hat! Yay!

Wacky fun!

I thought seriously about getting a leather duster, but finally decided I wouldn't really wear it very much.

Instead, I bought a brown suede-look sport coat. I now have photos of me in that coat with Morena and Jewel (from Flanvention I). I'm gonna claim that makes it official

If you like Mal's coat then check this out:

http://www.abbyshot.com/products/ps-firefly-browncoat.php

It's an exact replica of Mal's coat. AbbyShot is probably the best replica coat maker in the 'verse and I highly recomend them!

Niska: You don't like I kill this man?
Mal: Nah, I'm sure he was a bad man.
Niska: My wife's nephew. At dinner I'm getting earful.

Yep. I have one that I am very proud of. My wife bought it for me for Valentine's Day three years ago. I wore it to Dragon Con two years ago as part of my Mal costume so some around here have seen it.

I wear it every time the weather permits since I live in Virginia. Not really the coldest of states. I normally start wearing it in October & wear it right on up until it gets too warm, sometime around March.

I wore my coat to opening night of the film. The guy taking tickets took one look at me & said, "Let me guess which movie you are here to see."

How shiny is that?

I wear a battered brown Carhartt work jacket with lots of useful pockets full of all manner of unpleasantness...

Since i drive a cab, a long coat isn't viable, but this beat up, super tough, many-pocketed, nice and warm thing has a lot of browncoat spirit.. always has.

For reasons we'll stay out of, I can't bear to wear my *very* favorite coat, the Mk65 is even comfier and warmer, but those are colors I refuse to fly anymore.

Anyhows, yeah, I gots a brown coat.

Oh yeah...I've also got a greencoat and a greyishcoat. It was kind of wierd when I first saw the series though, because I already kind of dressed like Mal (for looking okay at work), Jayne (for work days) and Wash (seemingly everyday).

While not so much in the long, Browncoat style, my leather coat is unmistakably a brownish color, so might that count?

Dont have a browncoat, can't seem to let go of my black leather trenchcoat. I do have a Jayne hat that i knitted my self (yes I am a male knitter) and a have a closet full of Hawain shirts.

also, off topic, i still have a bunch of yarn so if there is a high enough demand i might make a couple of Jayne hats and put them on E-Bay.
