I'm new to message boards, though I've been an ISP System Admin for years now, so I apologize for any etiquette faux pas, and if this is not the right place for this thread. But, I was finally able to start watching the Firefly series from DVD that my friend has been trying to get me to watch for a year now. AND NOW I'M OBSESSED! I can't sleep at night, I think about it all day. I need this show back in production! I've been scouring message boards and sites for news about the series, but all I see is stuff about podcasts. That's nice and all, but it's not the series. Is there a write in campaign? Are Joss Whedon and the cast willing and able? Is it just money? Is Bill Gates a fan?

Sorry, this is rambling a bit. I guess I just need to share my elation and grief. This is one of the best stories I've seen.

Yesterday I ordered my own copy of the series on DVD and 'Serenity'...which I haven't seen yet. My own small contribution to DVD sales stats. If anyone can point me toward relevant cast blogs or news updates, I'd appreciate it.

Welcome to triage. Writing more helps. Reading
more helps. Seeing new people sign up and say the
same old things ("HELP!! NEED MORE!!!") warms
the sad old heart. When you memorize all the
episodes you can startle your friends by laughing
out loud at practically *anything* - because it
will remind you of something one of the characters
said or did. They will think you are crazy.

"Yep. Here I am."

Welcome home, Sho. Always good to hear from new 'Coats.

Most of the connections you need can be found on the FFF.net mainpage. And news about the show/movie/cast/whatever always finds its way onto the forum pretty damn sharp.

As for getting the show up and running again... we'll just have to keep making our voices heard, and wait and see. Although, reading the piece on the movie in DVD Review (leading UK DVD magazine, gives it four out of five, folks!), it makes mention that there are 'two sequels waiting in the wings'. That's a new one on me!

Welcome Sho, welcome to the shared joy and heartache.

We all love hearing folks talk about how they fall in love with Firefly and get obsessed. Believe me, you are not alone. You will see if you read past posts and new posts that we all came here that way. We simply fell in love!
And we all ramble a bit when we get here. LOL

A word of caution since you haven't seen the movie yet, be careful reading around here as there are spoilers all over this board. So proceed with caution; Sometimes they aren't marked very well either.

At this point we are all waiting to see what happens... whether there will be a new series or a BDS. A BDS ( Big Damn Sequel) is probably our best bet, but it will depend on the DVD sales.

In the meantime, share your new found obsession with as many folks as you can. It's been my experience that everyone who sees this wonderful show and movie fall in love too. The more Browncoats the merrier.

*hands Sho a Browncoat*

Glad to have you!

I really thought there was something wrong with me when I felt the same things you've described about the show. Now I come to find there's enitre online communities resembling support groups for our type. Think about it, if this was just a regular fanpage of any other show people would be flamming every new guy that comes on here saying how much he likes the show, but since everyone hear knows what "Firefly Addiction" feels like, you get responses that might only be typical in an AA meeting.

What is it about this show, anyways? Joss Whedon must be putting something into our water...

I really appreciate the welcome! And, I'm proud to join the Browncoat ranks!

It feels good to know there are more folks out there that have been equally touched by this phenomenon. As with any great storytelling, it is the depth and intricacies of the characters that are compelling. And with superb acting to bring those characters to life, it becomes part of you.

I'll keep reading, keep looking, and keep the faith. All of my friends will be getting an earful of this shows greatness, no doubt!

Man I felt and still feel the same way! I just found out about Firefly a month ago, I saw the DVDs at my local video store. Watched them all in a 3 day binge (on winter break, college). When I think about this show I get that sad feeling of having lost a good friend or something, and I always feel a strange sense of nostalgia. I would do anything to get this show back on, but I have a feeling the cast wouldn't be able to get back together again... too busy with other stuff : (

Welcome Brandon!

Naw, our BDH's ( Big Damn Heroes) would come back for a show I'll bet you. And they are all already signed for 2 more movies with Universal.

From what I've read they love the 'verse as much as we do. Heck, they post on our forums ( not recently, doggone it, but the Cap'n posted at Christmas!).

The anything we can all do is to share this show and movie with as many people as we can. They'll fall in love too and want more, that's a given.

Whenever I feel blue and lonely for more Firefly, I come here and read posts like yours and I know we are gonna have more. Because all of us aren't gonna give up and we're gonna keep asking for it.

There is something special about Firefly/serenity,no question about that, it creates an obsession, and a fanaticism among fans,if I knew what it was, I'd bottle it and sell it.
Watching these shows, you are in the presence of greatness, of something unique.

On here, you are among the enlightened.

Thanks for the welcome : ) As funny as it sounds I am really very glad there are others that feel this way about the show. I don't even like watching anything on t.v. besides History and National Geo channels, so I'm pretty taken aback of my obsession with Firefly. I'm poor as hell but have $10 saved so far too buy the DVDs. I won't be able to watch them for awhile even if I got them (too hard to know its going to end) now.

You said that the cast is signed for two more movies with Universal? Firefly movies specifically or just anything?

Looking at all the casts bio, it seems few of them have done anything since Firefly/Serenity... I hope they all realize how fucking awesome they are.

Two more Firefly/Serenity movies, Brandon. They are all signed for them. We are all hoping and praying that enough DVD's sell that they will think it's profitable to make those movies.

I think right now Nathan is the busiest. He is filming a movie called "Waitress" and he has a movie coming out in Feb. or March ( can't remember which...) called "Sliver". Alan was just on Broadway, Morena is on "The O.C." and the others have been in stuff recently. Adam is always working, he has a new horror movie coming out too, if I'm not mistaken.

But.... I know they'd come back to Serenity in a heartbeat, they've said so in interviews.

Sho, Welcome aboard.
As a new recuit there are a few things you should know. First, since you have yet to see Serenity, (as was mentioned by someone else) Be Careful what you read here. Lots of folk assume everyone here has seen it and discuss it openly.

Meanwhile, as you wait to see it.
Extended gagreel from the series: FFgagreel:Courtesy of raph: http://stuff.freylia.net/firefly/GagReel.mov

Also, I don't have links but someone about here does. You need to find yourself a comicbook store and pick up the 3 issue miniseries that takes place after the show, but before the movie.

Then you need to download the River Tam Sessions which are 5 shorts in B & W with River in the academy with Joss as an interviewer.

there's books too. see the right side of the main page to order stuff from amazon. The Visual Companion with notes and the whole script for the movie. For after you've seen it of course.
and 'Finding Serenity' a collection of essays edited by Jane E. It includes all the colorful Chinese with translations and pronunciation.

Cons: find one near you and enjoy the company of the browncoats and appearances by cast. I Recommend Dragon*Con in Atlanta Sept 1-4, but only 'cause that's the closest to me. If you're not close to there, there are others.

Morenna appeared on OC as ya said, but just appeared, hopefully will appear again. First I've heard of Waitress though.

Yes, all 9 are signed for 3 movies and all 9 will appear in sequels. They all claim to love the show as much as we do, and Joss has said he has plenty more stories to tell in this 'Verse.

Welcome and,

Just be careful what you read on the forums about here because there are a lot of spoilers for Serenity about.

Also, are you by chance the Sho I know from the Cantr Forums? Probably not but I thought I should ask.

Those were great, too! Although I could stand to see a little more. No, seriously, the technical quality of the (19MB) vid sucked. But it's unmistably our precious River. I say 'unmistably', because there seem to be folks out there, quite obviously suffering from tragic space dementia, that think the actress in the sessions is not Summer Glau. Jien tah-duh guay! :)

If you buy it from a legitimate retailer (not a guy on the street or a fleamarket, where it's likely bootleg) it doesn't matter who. Best Buy is as good as any. If you order on-line, it's best to use the links on the left of the main page (I Think) from what I understand, this site gets a little bit to help it keep flyin' from those links.

Hi Sho,

Welcome to the home of the obsessed! I felt the same when I saw the movie in Dec. Went out and bought anything I could find on the show.

I'm excited that the entire cast has signed for 3 features, but I'm hoping they bring back a series in some format. It's an excellent medium to tell a lot of stories vs. one BIG story in a feature.

The almighty dollar will speak best to the studio. So buy Serenity, buy Firefly, and give them to people. Get other's hooked on it so they start buying.

Oh, and if you have the means, come to Comic Con in San Diego. The cast, the last few years, has been there.

Welcome to this end of the 'Verse. :) Expect your obsession to be as fixated and shiny as the stars in the sky (which they can't take away from us). I have to hope, you understand, you can't beat this. Just ride it, like a leaf on the wind. Oh, wait a tick, you haven't seen Serenity yet. Man, you're in for a treat!

1 new browncoat her, 1 new browncoat there. We are taking over the world soon ;)

Then....we will take all the money and create 100 seasons of firefly. Then all that money will multiplie itself 100 times because of huge success. Then we'll hire all the scientists in the world and develop A.I. But then the a.i turns on us. But ofcource, humans beat them back. They flee.

But browncoats are smart. So we build hundreds of big ships to protect ourself. And on the first ship called...fireflystar serenity all the good ol' browncoats (thats us right here) will be living.

Then one day the a.i (called reavers. yeah, we named them that - we rule the world) return. Everyone dies in a surprise attack, except fireflystar serenity. And in search for a new home we can watch firefly together every day for the rest of our lives - never needing to worry about shit tv.

And of cource, Commander Wedon and the X.O Tim will lead us to a new planet called...erm....Miranda!

Or... :P
