The series and movie were

well written, well acted, and well shot

(the triple threat)

no wonder Fox cancelled the show!!
(it made all their other stuff look bad!)

Seriously, I have been watching the commentaries
by Joss, the actors, writers, and film crew on both the series and the movie

I am fascinated at their techniques - at how
methodical they were -so purposeful - and what they tried to tell you - yet not tell you. ALl the nuances - its like going to a film class
at Berkely or some such! what an education.

and it truly is soooo goooood! - then I go watch
other shows (cause you have to) and they don't
come up to the mark that this show came up to.

I am totally amazed at what these writers, cast and crew did in such a short time. Wish they had more time - there is so much potential and I hate to see it wasted ....

but basically I am amazed at their skill
I dont think I will ever look at any series
without "Firefly/Serenity filters" on
(and its ruined alot of TV and movies for me
I'll have you know - Darn you! Joss Whedon,
Darn you to heck!)

I hear you, serena777. ain't that often a show like this comes along, huh?

the cast had a tangible chemistry that Lucas only wishes he could have had for the prequels.

put that much love into every aspect of something, and it's no wonder we're all hooked.

and yeah, Firefly has near about ruined television for me now. (American Idol just ain't the same now, I guess.) I've been watching alot less of it lately (mostly 'cause I've got a Firefly disk in DVD tray :)

yeah, ruined. I used to like Babylon 5 when it
first came out, but last week I tried renting the
DVD - to get away from Firefly for a few minutes -
and just couldn't even watch it. No offense to B5
fans please, it's just that it looked so 2 dimensional
compared to Firefly. Like paperdolls IMHO
And I used to like that show. Ruined. Just ruined.

Yeah, after the DVDs came out I stopped watching TV for about six months. Shows that I had been tuning in every week... I suddenly found my self wondering why I was bothering. I'd end up putting in Firefly or just turning the damn thing off. And frankly, I got quite alot of other good things done during that time. Unfortunately, the effect wore off, and now I am back to wasting my time watching so-so entertainment, except now and forever, I am painfully aware that it is only so-so.

Count me in on this too. I'm sitting here and the tv is off in my office, off at the house when I am there UNLESS I am watching Firefly or Serenity. I can't stand the rest of tv anymore. I can tolerate BSG, but I find I too watch it with Firefly filters. I just don't want to waste my time when I can see something I love and that makes me laugh and feel real emotion.

I never was a Joss fan before this... I tell you Firefly has me convinced that everything I read about his story telling abilities are true. He just has no match for making characters that you can fall in love with.

Ditto. The rest of the characters in TV land just aren't as compelling as Firefly's are (I purposefully use the present tense until Joss says to stop). They are people, not characters. The cast is unbelieveable and totally unique. Once you figure out the four or five characters archetypes in TV land, shows just aren't as intersting.

Case in point, I love Lost, watch it religiously. It's no Firefly, but I like it. However, this year they're struggling to add compelling characters. Take for example Anna-Lucia. She's a tough streetwise cop, with a chip on her shoulder. Congratulations Lost, you've discovered the treasure trove of unique characters. She's even played by a firey Hispanice actor. Give me a break. Formulaic. Joss characters, especially Firefly characters, weren't formulas, they are actual people, and I love them. And I'm assuming they love me too. Maybe they just like me, but if so I'm hoping the Like like me, if you know what I mean.

Yup, that's it, they are real to me. Never had that happen while watching a tv show or movie before.

And I'm really hoping Mal like-likes me!
