At least according to this website, Serenity is still in the top 20 DVD sales after 7 weeks. We're dropping slower than almost every other release since then as well. There aren't any sales numbers posted, and I'm not sure how they calculate the positions (it compiles data from several different sources), but this particular site seems to be affiliated with Variety magazine, which has some meaning to the industry as I understand things (I'm not saying I have any insight, just what I've heard =p). Also, the rental companion site did have numbers, and even though Serenity dropped off of that chart a couple of weeks ago, it did do alright, and pulled over $8M in rental revenues before it went away... I think things are going alright, and we need to keep them going that way as long as we can! =)

Thanks for posting this. Glad to see that the DVD sales are still holding up reasonably well. Of course, with all the new browncoats signing on every day, sales are bound to hold for awhile. (oh please, please, please someone with sequel-making power take notice!!!)

My pleasure =) I like to have good news around to feed the discussions with =)

I think this really does mean good things. At this point, the international box office take is just shy of breaking even...like just over $150K. Not to mention the international revenues are *really* behind in reporting in some cases. We've got to have more purchases than rentals, don't we? Even if the take on rentals is $4/unit, that's over 2 million units moved. I can't imagine it's much less than that, either way. Then, if we just have *the same* number of purchases as rentals, then at $15/unit Universal would have pulled $38M combining the rentals and purchases. I even read somewhere that Box Office sales only accounted for something like 30% of a movie's total revenue on average these days.

I'll say right out front that I don't *know* the figures other than the Box Office (from BoxOfficeMojo.com) and the Rental revenue (from DVDEmpire.com). Eveything else is speculation on my part based on what I've picked up here and there. None of it is gospel, and I sure as can be am no expert. I'm just sayin', it looks alright from where I'm standin'! =)

Keep flyin',
Amiton.

We need to set up a day where all the die hard fans (who are able) go and pick up another copy of Serenity. It wouldn't take a lot to push the sales number back into the top 10. Just a suggestion =)

Sounds like a good idea. Just need a date and getting the word out.

And perhaps even have everyone order through FFF.net. That way we could be supporting two causes at once. I'm in. Just say the word!

You can count me in, too. I was already planning on getting another couple of copies (I sent the few extras I had to the friends from my husband's unit in Iraq) I need a new lending one now, anyway.
