Call me crazy but isn't there a 8 month (or so) gap between the end of the series and the time of the movies?
I feel like 8 months is a lot of time for episodes that come before the movie (and before the death of Wash and Book).
That's what I'm hoping for from the inevitable new TV series.

Personally I don't think that will work especially since all the questions to our answers of Blue Sun, Blue Hands, and why Book left is answered in the Comic Mini Series. What would the episodes be on and what would be the point when we know the eventual end?

At this point in the game I want to see what happens after Serenity. How the rest of crew deals with the aftermath. And what comes next.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

Well, I believe the general consensus is (ahem), that those 8 months are questionable; and that the gap is probably wider, even. I recall a commentary of some sort to that effect, or sumthin'.

Personally, I distinctly remember Kaylee saying, in the Maidenhead, talking about Simon, "We're going on a year now, I ain't had nothing twixt my nethers..." Which would suggest, that the Tams are onboard Serenity for at least a year.

As much as I like Wash and Book I really think prequelling is something that should be avoided at all costs. It just totally deflates the dramatic tension of the shows if we already know how it's going to wind up. That being said Joss might just be the one to be able to pull it off.

I agree that trying to squeeze in episodes between the first season and the movie would be difficult to make fly, even for Joss. Better to have them pop up in occassional flashbacks while everyone deals with moving on. They, Wash and Book, could definitely add to dramatic tension, especially for Zoe (flashbacks, imagining him there talking with her, etc).

Now, we just need the new seasons....

I don't think you can judge the time between series and movie by the details of Kaylee's sex life. To begin with we have no idea how long it had been since she had last gotten some before the series began maybe it was the night before the events of Serenity the epsiode but it could just as easily have been weeks or months. Adding to that any ammount of time that was taken up by the events of the series (3 or so months seems like a reasonable guestimate allowing for lots of boring downtime between the exciting happenings that got filmed for the show.)

I'm pretty sure the 8-month (actually, I was almost sure it was 6 months...) came from an interview with Joss. I'm not positive, but pretty gorramn close =)

In as far as the quote, I'm pretty sure the only time we know about anything 'twixt those nethers was the other mechanic (Bester, was it?). Simon hadn't been anywhere near there, and that was pointed out pretty explicitly in the gunfight. More directly to how long the Tams have been on board, Mal says they've been on board either 8 or 9 months when he goes off on Simon about River being a danger to his crew. If anything, the break between series and BDM is *shorter*...I can't see all of Firefly happening in a month or two =\

...HUH... How 'bout that? :)

Yeah, at least we know Kaylee got 'some' with Bester. So, it is fair to say the "We're going on a year now" comment refers, at least, to Serenity flying with her as mechanic, right? In that case, yeah, we really only know at least a year went by until the Maidenhead. I always kinda thought Kaylee's "We're going on a year now" referred to since the Tams came aboard. But, come to think of, there's actually nothing in that sentence that supports that, except what's twixt my ears. :) Oh God, I hate being wrong; lol.

Squish!

*fingers in his ears* LALALALALALALALALALALA! I can't hear you!!

If that's true then it breaks movie and series continuity in a way that can't be glossed over! I refuse to even check because if you're right then it could unravel the fabric of the universe or something!!

Worried Amiton.

Don't try and think about the timeline. It hurts, and it doesn't work.

But, I do believe that the next comic series is to take place between the series and the movie. (IIRC it'll be before "Those Left Behind" even.) Makes sense, as that leaves Joss the ability to run some of those Wash and Book storylines, while still preserving the "future" for movies/tv/D2DVD/DLds come what may.

Mal (in Trash): "About half a year back, at the Triumph settlement."

So, Amiton, your timeline's still flying. :)
