I wasn't sure if I should post this or not because I was afraid of the exposure my stuff would be getting! But finally I let go of my... Pride I guess is the word, and decided that I should show my drawing! I have more drawings to be proud of anyway.... And not only that but I decided to copy the original then draw all over the copy then scan it .

Actually the original two lines were because the scan was trying to reposition the image.... Annoying little scanner.

But I mailed a photocopy straight from the original to Summer and I hope she likes . I plan on getting the original signed by her if she ever comes to Indiana (if she is allowed to sign this kind of stuff).

I only spent like 15 minutes on it, though. And if you haven't already guessed then I'll tell you, it's from a shot in Objects in Space. I hope everyone likes!!

EDIT: And I don't know if it's the same for everyone else but it's taking a while to load for me (I'm on Cable). I think it's just ImageShack.

Hey Dinky, good work! Really expressive lines, and I wish you luck getting Summer to autograph it. From what I've heard, all our Big Damn Heroes very much appreciate the obsessive nature of us their fans, and are as in love with the show as we are. (An obvious part of what made the series so incredible.)

Also, if you want some more exposure, you can post your image in the Blue Sun Room here... lots of really wicked talent out there usually.

I guess I should have posted it there in the first place =/. My bad.

I've been thinking about making River in 3d with Maya6.5. I've got one mini-project I am doing already but I think it would be fun doing cloth simulation with her because of that dress she wearis in the movie.

Once I get time I think I'll do it, as long as I can find some good front/profile images of Summer/River's body. That'd make it all very easy... Though the hard part is finding the reference images =/.

Thanks!

Ooh... now a 3d River would certainly be something new. Had a chance to play around a bit with 3DStudioMax a few years ago when I was working on BFA, but couldn't hack the 3d stuff too much. Too tedious :p You 3d people get tons of respect from me though.

If you're looking for reference, best two sites I've found are
http://still-flying.net/images/
http://www.chosentwo.com/gallery/index.php?cat=5

But, yeah, good luck finding the right screencaps. (Maybe better luck running a google on Summer and looking for some head shots?) I have enough trouble drawing River as is, couldn't imagine trying to model her.

Yeah I used 3dsMax when I was just starting out and it really pushed me farther away from doing anything 3d. But then I found Maya 5 and the interface is just SO much easier to use, I love love love Maya.

I also have ZBrush (though I need to get my CD key back to reinstall it), which is an amazing program, or a tool if you just use it to finish up characters by adding scars, pimples or whatever!

Maya Unlimited sadly is a $7,000 dollar program... But if you're a student or a teacher then you can get it for like $300 if you provide your transcript (not sure what you have to do if you're a teacher).

Correction, $375.95:

Thanks .

EDIT: Oh and yes there is a difference between the $7,000 version and the $375 version. License, most of what costs you so much money when you buy this kind of software is not the software, but the license. With the Commercial license ($7,000) you're buying the rights to make stuff and sell it, or get a job with that program. With an Educational license ($375) you're buying the rights to use this program only to learn about it, you can't get a job doing it with that license :D.

But the software between these two licenses is THE SAME. You still get Mental Ray you still get the Shader library, you still get EVERYTHING. Just can't make mulah off of it.

Yeah, that's the same reason I'm not currently running any of the Adobe Programs ;p Licensed version costs way too much last I checked (though nowhere near what Maya costs.) Ditched all my illegal copies when I graduated, just to be on the safe side, so I've been making do with the free and open-source software. Big fan lately of GIMP which is an open-source freeware. Lots of mods out there for it, not near as stable as Photoshop, but it does most of the same tricks. And I'm far too spoiled by now to do any sort of 2d stuff without at least a little bit of digital tweaking ;p

Adobe Photoshop CS2 last I checked was like $625 which isn't too much for software. I have the commercial version of After Effects 6.5 pro and at the time it was not expensive. I need Premier =/.

Yeah I too have stopped with illegal copies, long time past. I'm not much for Shareware, never was, too much trouble (software wise and computer performance wise).
