FilmFocus has awarded our little BDM with it's "Film of the Year" award and has new features to go along with it, including a chance to win the DVD's and large posters from the movie.

Thanks, Whisper.

Would that we here in the U.S.A. had recognized it as well.

I'm really hoping now when the DVD goes on sale in the U.K. and elsewhere around the world, that the sales will go thru the roof and that Universal will see that it needs to do something more with our ship and crew.

I tried to update this award to imdb.com

http://imdb.com/title/tt0379786/awards

But I got stuck on a few questions that I did not know how to answer. The only award showing for Serenity on imdb.com is
Online Film Critics Society Awards for Best Breakthrough Performance for Nathan Fillion

Anybody else want to try?

It's on sale down here in New Zealand at the moment... special edition 2 disk set w/ Joss' autograph.

Payday can't come soon enough :)

It can go next to the zone 1 copy of the movie and series I've already got :-D

Yay, for Browncoats who buy multiple copies!!
Thanks!

I wish I knew I could make a copy from there work in my DVD player ( I'm in the USA) I'd order me one of those shiny things. I think I can make it work on my computer DVD player with a program I can download.

Shoot, wish I knew.

Well, there is always the power of Google to find out if your DVD player can be unlocked. The problem is that if I remember right (and it's very possible I don't - so don't quote me) it's illegal to sell an unlockable DVD player in the US.

Us poor bastards in NZ (I'm a transplanted American) as compensation for living in on islands in the middle of nowhere [very pretty islands though] get easily unlockable DVD players sold to us so we can buy ZOne 1 DVD's of stuff that hasn't come out down here yet.

You can copy it using CloneDVD2 and a nifty little program called AnyDVD.
CloneDVD2 does the actual ripping/burning while AnyDVD runs in the background and removes the region codes.

I picked up the Aussie collectors tin version (because it is way cool!) and was able to copy both discs and watch the extra features.

well, the dvd gets released in the UK in 9 days time (27th feb) and on preorders alone, its sitting at no 5 in the amazon.co.uk sales ranking! A good sign methinks!

There are plenty of programs that can create an All Regions disc by ripping/recompressing a Regionalized disc. I've already done this with the Oz DVD's extra features using Smart Ripper and DVDShrink.

But that's not the only problem. I can play the discs (original Region 4 or All Region) on my computer just fine. My standalone DVD player has no problem playing the All Region copy. However, it won't sync up on my TV, because the Aussie version is PAL encoded, not NTSC (the North American video standard).

I have been told that there are applications that can convert PAL-format mpeg files to NTSC, but I don't know what they are. If I find out I'll pass it along.

Meanwhile, the Region 4 discs play just fine on my PC, so you shouldn't have any undue fussin'.

I don't disagree on any particular point.

Uh, oh, but thanks for the info and I'll try the google idea, my DVD player may be better than I think.

Thanks DonCoat, that is sorta what I'm countin' on.
I have a few copies of the movie to send as gifts this month, then my cashy money will be flush again to spend on me! Yay!

WHAT? How come we don't get that? You guys must have hugged Joss more than we did.

All right, damn it, let's all go hug him again.

Don't they realize that a 2-disk special edition is the perfect way to get all us rabid fan types to buy the same movie twice and LOVE IT?

Anyway, congrats to Joss and co. on this achievement! Shiny!

FOLLOWMAL, have you heard when such a 2-disk set will be released in the US? Just curious.. and the only thing I've heard is what's been discussed on the board..

I'll have multiple copies of Serenity soon... big oops on my part, when I bought it, I was so anxious to get home to watch it, but found out after already opening and playing that its standard screen... not that I have a HD widescreen yet; everything's WS in my collection and so much better in that format!! It'll be interesting to see the difference!

Shiney,

I haven't heard when, but I've seen it discussed here and over on the other Browncoat board. Over there a bit more discussion and the rumor is expanded to say in March there will be a two disc special edition released. Now, there's been no official announcement that I've seen. But I do know I'd sure as heck buy one or two of those shiney things if they release it, so I'm hopin' that they do. More goodies for us and more money for them. All good in my book.

Lol, I have multiple copies too, Shiney, but mine is on purpose. One is my WS and I love it, one is my loaner, cuz I can't be without my movie, and one is full screen so I can see Mal's face up closer. But again, I would LOVE the opportunity to expand my collection with a wonderful two disc set. Maybe we should add requesting a two disc set from Universal to our various and sundry writing campaigns?!

I submitted both this and the Rotten Tomatoe's "User Tomato" award to imdb, with just enough information so that it would accept it. I've really only seen more major awards listed, so not sure if they'll accept these "new events," but it's worth a try! Glad to see that the BDM is getting such a warm reception across the pond!

Late reply to the post, but if you haven't found anything yet I believe that the Mplayer software will do this, available at www.mplayerhq.hu. It's also multi-platform and will work on Windows, Mac and Linux.
