Because region 4 has the best extras...

"A Filmmaker's Journey: From Script To Screen With Joss Whedon".
http://community.livejournal.com/fireflyfans/620659.html
Easily the best feature on the entire DVD. I cannot believe that this wasn't included on the region 1 DVD.

Extended scenes, "A Walk Through Serenity" and "The Green Clan".

"Also? If you download this, *please*, PLEASE, please promise me you: own; will buy for yourself; or give multiple copies of the Serenity movie to your friends as gifts. I don't want this to affect sales or any other vital things."

If you don't want it to affect sales, why post the files in the first place?

Isn't it a tad misleading to keep referring to this DVD as the "Region 4" one? I suppose it's only currently available in Region 4 areas, but the back of the box clearly identifies the discs as both Region 4 and Region 2 compatible ;).

You're quite right. it is region 2 & 4. Living in the UK, I would normally buy a region 2 disc, but www.cdwow.co.uk also sell the region 2 & 4 disc, and this was the one I was referring to

What gets me about this is these three points:

- How many people, with the option, will download that and not bother with the DVD, not counting true Browncoats (for the most part)?

- When we(other countries) get "double-dipped"(ripped off with a crap DVD, then a "Special Edition" which is really US version #1 - see T2 and BTTF, which has three and two versions respectively(T2[R4], T2[R1 disc #1]/T2:"Special Edition"[R4], T2: Extreme Edition[R1 disc #2, unreleased elsewhere], BTTF[R4 Disc Set], BTTF(with extra MJF commentary among other things)[R1 disc set #1/R4 Disc Set #2) who sends the other extras from the US outward?

(I think it's kinda amusing that you guys finally know the crap we go through with 142 Editions of the same ONE movie from America to get ALL of the extras.)

- It's US$25 with a free metal collector's tin! What's so gorram expensive about that?!
(Not to mention it's a down payment on a follow-up!)

The files in question are deleted scenes and a few making of videos. The only people interested in these at all are true browncoats. Plus with all respect to the people who ripped these the screen size is way tiny you can hear the voices and kinda see what's going on but they're no videophiles dream. This is a stopgap measure only.

Finally we're getting the shaft too. Schadenfruede is fun.

Plus shipping, plus I need to fiddle with my player (or maybe even buy another player altogether) to get it to run, plus it's the wrong video format (pal/ntsc) which means that even if I get it to run the voices may wind up sounding goofy.

These files will tide me over untill somebody amongst TPTB get it together to release these to the american market.

Is the cd wow one and the ezydvd one the exact same (with the metal case and stuff) and if not would the ezydvd one work on a region2 dvd (I'm sorry to be a dumbass, I just want to make sure before I buy it and have to fork out for a multiregion dvd player as well (I just bought Battlestar Galactica Season 1 and mini series, Sopranos Season 4 (and I need to buy 5 for a parentals birthday) so i ain't got enough cash to buy a multiregion dvd player as well) ^^.

The CD-WOW version is the standard Australian DVD release (the non-metal tin version). If you don't want the tin, ordering the non-metal tin version from EzyDVD is still cheaper than using CD-WOW :S.

I considered the metal tin, and then realised that there was an extra postage cost.

With all due respects, it's not amusing. It's irritating, and however much I understand what you go through, at the same time, I have no control over it.

Havent seen those 2 yet but i will. Got my 2 disc tin in this weekend. I did watch the Q & A session w/ JOSS, did anyone else? He said that firely in that form was dead, and he wouldnt mind telling other stories from that verse w/ some of the charecters but it wont be the same as when it was on TV. I really got depressed when I heard that. I like serenity and he is trying to get another movie made but i think hes giving up on idea of firefly flying again. he also took a vote there w. the ppl in the audience and they were overwhelmingly in favor of firefly return to TV. Unless a network comes to him about firefly returning i dont think its gonna happen. the best we can hope for will be a serentiy sequel.. sad news IMO

I find that DVD-ROM is your friend in these circumstances. With a TV-OUT video card and a copy of AnyDVD, you can play most DVDs through the PC to the TV.

I have the second US (R1) copy of T2 (which one day MIGHT become the third Aussie copy) thanks to this.

The British (R2) and Aussie (R4) discs are often the same, via a mindset of "They're related" and the fact that we both use PAL.

Recode the set from R4 to R2, and press away!

I doubt it'll take long past the release of our DVD.

Sadly a suboptimal solution in my case. Optimal of course being an official release of this material in region 1 ntsc. Anyway thanks for the tips.

See? You get it exactly!
We get irritated as hell by the X-hundred "Editions", and now that they're pissing off their fellow countrymen, it won't be long before they get tons of mail, calls, riots, etc for them to quit being ripoff merchants.

The amusement came from how it will end up, not your irritation.

Joss never said die.

He doubts the return as the same ENTITY, the same STYLE, the same FEELING, but yes, another series COULD be made, it would just be *different*, more than likely in name AND in spirit.

Suboptimal?

Last time I checked, PAL had more colours and better resolution.

you are correct he didnt say die what he said was. 1 hour into the Q & A part
"I dont ever think there will be a firefly series 2, simply because firefly is a thing that is just gone. Circumstance alone would of changed it so much it could never be what it was. I think theres a possiblity there could be a show with some of these actors that was in that universe playing these parts, or a spinoff or downsizing of the show but i dont think you would get exactly the same chemistry so i wouldnt want to try. If this was a hit I would like to make more movies"

Just sounds to me that firefly isnt comng back in his eyes.

Maybe he just needs a network to take a chance.

Honestly, how many Joss projects have sucked (bar the Buffy movie)?

I completely understand this concern. I've got my tin ed. of the R4 set on order (of course it would have to be out of stock!) but I can only hope that anyone who sees SereniFly and likes it enough to go to the lengths of tracking down every little bit and piece of extra stuff would be a responsible enough fan to realize the damage that can be caused by not supporting the show and film. Am I wrong on this?
