GAMMARAYGIRL

Hello,

I'm new, addicted to firefly and so happy to have found this wonderful site.

Quick question, and many apologies if this has already been addressed- one of the (many) things I love about the series is the costuming. I'm hoping to make (sew) a browncoat and perhaps when I'm feeling ambitious something in the style of lovely Inara. It would be helpful to have reasonably detailed photographs of the clothes to do this. I've found "Serenity: The Official Visual Guide" on amazon. Am wondering if this contains closeups of the clothes. Any other recommendations?

Many Thanks!

FOLLOWMAL

Welcome! Another new recruit! You'll need your very own browncoat ( virtual, sorry, I really do wish I could hand everyone a REAL browncoat, heck I want one myself!).

*hands gammaraygirl a shiny new 'coat*

We are very glad to have you and I hope you will be happy here, it's a shiny place with lots of good folks.

Someone will be along and offer you protein in every color of the rainbox likely or maybe someone cooked!

They have announced that there will be a Firefly Visual Companion, when that comes out I hope they have some good pics. Screenshots might help, maybe show you close up and you could get an idea.
I personally am much more fond of everyone's clothes in the show vs. the movie, although I liked the movie costuming, I'm just partial to Mal's shirts and tight pants and suspenders and the 'COAT from the show. ( I'm obsessed with Mal, sorry * sheepish grin*) I know there is a Browncoat available online ( very expensive) but nice, there might be pics you could get ideas from.

Wish I knew the link... but there will be Browncoats wiser than I and more computer able to point you to it.

For now, we're proud to have you.

" You hold. Hold til I get back." Mal

Followmal- hey, thanks for the coat!

I think I found the Browncoat you were talking about- yes, it is a bit pricey! And it really doesn't look that difficult to make. The picture is helpful though, so thanks.

Regards,

KAELE

Welcome home.

We're so glad you found us, Gammaraygirl. We're an odd bunch, but you'll find we're harmless. Mostly. :)

Come on in, feel free to join in anywhere, and grab a seat.

There's Padang shrimp and dumplings on the table. Chow down and enjoy!

Howdy, gammaraygirl, always shiny to see a new face out here. (This is, what, third one today I've come across? :)

Recently got the Serenity Visual Companion myself. Really high-quality book, actually with some interesting stuff in there. There is a couple pages that discuss Inara's costumes in there. Mostly of that part is concept drawings and the like, but they're full-page ones, don't know if that would help. Most of the other pictures are about what you'd get looking through screencaps I'd imagine, nothing focusing too much on the clothes, but they're high-quality pictures and close-ups and such of all the crew. Really pretty stuff in there, though and I'd recommend it on that regardless of if it's of any use to you.

Anyways, looks like FollowMal's issued you your coat, and it smells like Kaele's been busy in the kitchen today. (Is that dumplings I smell?) So my part is to tell you to keep the hope alive, spread the word, and know that we'll all be holding the line when Mal returns. ;p

And now I'm off to the dining room to see if there's any of those dumplings left. (Been living off of protein for waaay too long, and I'm full out of rosemary. :)

_______________
You can take my hope when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

Ola Gammaraygirl, pull up a chair, you may want something to wash down that protien. Have some Mudders Milk. All the protien and carbs of your mothers best turkey dinner... plus 15% alchohol.

As for pictures, the best screenshots I found are from this site.

Abbeyshots has made an official Browncoat, but yes very expensive. But you might want to check it out.

There are also some browncoats who have made their own shirts through cafepress, and some who have made jewelry as close to what you see in the show (mainly Inara's so you shouldn't worry for accesories) not to mention someone earlier had posted a site selling Indian jewelry that looks like the type Inara wears. You'll have to look around for that thread, or ask someone to post it for you

Just look at the Store thread to get the sites and names of Browncoats who have merchandise to offer.

Hope you stick around, always good to see new people discovering this wonderful Verse. Mind you don't sill the milk.

If I'm a bitch, then life just got interesting
