Yesterday a friend of mine dropped by with a gift: A dress she had gotten in Syria, long, deep red, with lots of gold embroidery all over it. It looks like something Inara would wear when she was off duty. (There's one episode where she wears this kind of boxy, very unsexy, long dress to do some work around the shuttle - that's pretty much what we're talking about here.) Since I'd be laughable trying to pull off a real sexy Inara working-girl outfit, this is perfect.

This isn't THE dress, but it's one I found on eBay that is similar, just to give an idea of what I'm talking about:

And then last night on eBay I won a fair substitute for a Browncoat!

It's a leather cavalryman's coat with a back slit for riding. It's not all that close to Mal's coat, but it'll do.

DONCOAT

Two very shiny acquisitions! I like the idea of an Inara "just hanging out around the shuttle" outfit. She always seems nicer in those 'off' moments.

I don't disagree on any particular point.

Maybe not Mal's but a very nice coat for another veteran of that war.

Good haul!!!

Yeah, I guess I think of the Independents is being just that: Guerrilla fighters, people who came off the farms and ranches to fight for their freedom, probably not all that well equipped and possibly bringing their own gear when they could. Not uniformed soldiers all in a row, looking identical.

Besides, it's a Confederate cav coat... so that felt right.

You know Griz, I know this is silly to say, but when I look at that coat I think Monty... it just has that feel. Congrats on the win. Why I can't ever win shiny stuff like that?

If I'm a bitch, then life just got interesting

My Monty Browncoat arrived today and it's perfect. It fits like it was custom made (which it was, but not for me). Only thing is it smells of mothballs so it's out on the clothesline blowing in the frosty north wind at the moment, but I just love, Love, LOVE it!

It's unlined, which feels right; the sleeves are a perfect length, the shoulders the perfect width and the waist cuts in for a really nice fit on a girl (it was made for a small man). It's more of a Zoe-coat than anything. Not that I have Zoe's curves, or anything...

Turns out the jacket was made by East West Musical Instruments Co. I was feeling a little guilty about wearing it but I'll just take good care of it and let the kids sell it in my estate sale.
