"Soylent green is people!"

No, that's not it, but having never seen that movie, that line is still funny to me.

I hope you are ready for what I have to tell you, cause quite simply it will blow your mind, the truth that is, and it has been right in front of our collective noses, here goes.

The Serenity theme, at first I thought it was corny, as hell, but the more I listened to it, the more I liked it, now that i've learned the lyrics, it's just too damn difficult to sing, I get choked up. That's when the truth of it all came to me like a needle into my brain...

"Joss" is Blue Sun, and we are "River"

Thanks for insulting my intelligence. At least I can spell.

It isn't a matter of not getting it. Its a matter of you not being clear. No one on this thread knows what the hell you're getting at.

So, please, I implore you, stoop to the level of the common man and enlighten us as to your incredible revelation.

Hm, not sure I agree with that. Perhaps, Joss is River and tried to explain something to us and in the process we are now tending toward River. This might then given the illusion that Joss is Blue Sun, but he's not. That would be F*X, as look what they did to him.

Count me as one who doesn't get it. The oaty bar didn't mean anything to River; it was the subliminal message in the commercial that affected her. So there's a subliminal message in the BDM that made us all go crazy and try to kill a roomful of people?

Before I experienced "Firefly," I was younger; now I'm older. This is a revelation?

Ok. I think I understand the revelation, the all coming from the premise that Blue Sun were the people who screwed River up.

Joss is Blue Sun, we are River.

Blue Sun opened River's eyes to the truth of the world. Too much, however, and she can't enjoy the little things, can't live like a person.

Joss opened our eyes to good science fiction. Too much, and we can't enjoy the crap that plays as TV series.

Does this make the Fox execs Simon, rescueing us from the clutches of too much Firefly?

I get it! But, ouch!

By the way, you might want to view the actual movie, "Soylent Green". It just happens to be one of my all time, old timey, back in the olden days movies. Then you won't be laughing when you say "Soylent Green is People!", 'cuz you'll know. (I actually saw this movie at the theatre when it was first released, and yes, it's rather corny -- but it wasn't then!) Try it, you'll like it!

That was nowhere near as cool as my interpretation.

I definately had a whole thing going with Fox as our Saviors, rescueing us from the plight of too much entertaining television. It's plainly evil for Joss to kill our ignorance, to unviel our eyes to the ugly truth of television: most shows are terrible. It took a really good one for us to figure out.

Joss somehow reveals truths we wouldn't otherwise see. Burn him at the stake.

Despite the fact that you seriously need to fill in your posts a bit more than just a few disjointed sentences...

I saw the point, and did so before you posted it.

But Joss in all honesty had no idea if his movie or series would continue on afterwards. Hoped, yes. Knew? No.

I doubt the underlying theme you are implying is really there. It's like saying, "Hey! There are handcuffs on River. That means we were being shackled by the TV execs at Fox when they cancelled our show." Your mind can input any meaning it likes into any object, it's part of being human and creative. The only way you'll know what Joss was thinking when he did that is to ask him directly. Or get ESP. The second suggestion being more likely.

Joss is deep, but I doubt he's THAT deep. Or at least he's deep in something... Get him a shovel.

Love the movie, love to be entertained.

I get what you're trying to say and I think everyone else is taking it far too literal. When I read the first post I knew what you meant and got the sly sarcasm behind it...at least I view it as slight sarcasm at any rate I agree with you that Joss can in fact be compared to blue sun and us to river. Consider this people: When you see a leaf on the wind do you not get a bit sad? There are a whole list of those on another thread, but my point is life...and things like leaves remind us of the verse. They are our "fruity oaty bar commercials" that stimulate us to be reminded of something we've experienced because that something was in fact so profound for some of us that it can't be forgotten or ignored. That is what I at least got out of the post. Feel free to rip me a new one now if you wish.

Nicely put. Too bad the 12 year old kid who started this thread didn't just explain, instead of giving us the Oracle shtick.

Don't get me wrong, I love cleverness and sarcasm as much as the next immature mature person(hell, I'm a Whedon fan), but it's the whole "I've Come Up With a Clever, Yet Vague Analogy and If You Don't Get It You Should Probably Point Your Browser at MatlockFans.Net Instead of Here" attitude that irritates me.

That being said, kudos to the 12 year old for a clever analogy.

Nah. Doesn't work for me. Or at least, it doesn't apply to me.

My life does not feel particularly different since Firefly -- or rather, what has changed has nothing to do with a TV show.

Firelfly is not the first show I've totally flipped over, or the first one I've visited message boards for, or even the first one cancelled prematurely (though it may hold the speed-record there). I'm sure it won't be the last in any of the categories, either --as I've recently fallen for Battlestar Galactica, though I havn't hit their message board yet, and they're thankfully not cancelled - yet.

Very nicely put, but I don't think it in anyway explains what girlyman meant in his post or what's going on in his head, if anything (/me ducks and hides). I agree with JoneStein.

AGirlyMan: This is not meant to be condescending, but I make no apologies if you feel it is.
The English language is meant to communicate with people. Sure, we all have fun making clever points and watching people's faces contort in confusion (actually, the reaction I usually get is "you're a fucking retard," but I'm special). But let's be serious here. Starting a post with four different seemingly disconnected ideas will confuse anyone and everyone. It's not clever. Your follow-up posts are even worse. It's like you're a little imp dancing with glee that people can't see your hidden genius, and then you refuse to explain yourself.
You end up explaining your superficial analogy, which I expanded up and you denied. That was meant to show you if you carried your own thought through all the way, you'd realize how superficial you were being. (If you feel that was hypocritical, at least marvel how I managed to string my ideas together in a single coherent thought process).

My point is not to embarrass you, if I could send you a private message I would have. My point is to make you think of what your trying to say before you say it. Communicate clearly, it's what the language is used for.
