Okay. A couple weeks ago my dad brought home the complete set of Firefly and the movie. He heard it was good, so he went out and bought it. I decided to give it a shot, and I fell in love with it. The only bad thing is.. I don't have anything left to watch and SO many questions. How do I become a "browncoat" and voice my opinion on why it should come back? Is there anything I can do? It is slightly upsetting that it was dismissed.. it is so catchy and entertaining. I would watch it every week. What can i do?

Bitch, moan, whine and fervently wish for something ain't never gonna happen, preferably voluably and with other people as pissed as you are. Other than that, nothing.

Or pills! I prefer them.

ironically enough I am learning about Bitter Bierce in school at this very moment. Doesn't suit you. I prefer a method that actually DOES something. sitting on my butt pissing and moaning doesn't get me anywhere.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

right, but the fact of it is that there isn't some one thing that we all COULD be doing, which would "work"- i mean, we've tried everything, and of course we will continue to do so (buying merc, writting letters, etc), because thats sorta the only hope, but the fact of it is there is nothing that can be done that will yeild immediate results.

I just finished watching the series the other day. I am completely new to this. So, basically, I am not doing anything. You mentioned writing letters. To who? Where? etc. I am not expecting immediate results.. i would just like to be one more person to fight this battle. Sorta like Mal.

Independents half the Alliances size. Did it stop him? Hell no. Gave him reason to fight harder.

The best thing you can do is spread the word, get more people to watch and buy the series and movie. These execs know only one language, money.

You're "learning" about Amrbose "in school"? Wow, the worst way you could possibly be introduced to him. Ambrose Bierce should be read with distinct pleasure, a fine cigar and a good bottle of cognac, boy. Read him when you've grown up and more reflective. He's an entirely wasted resource on children. Partake Mencken instead, he can be read profitably at an earlier age. He'll make you exhilerated to be alive.

First off welcome. You are already a Browncoat just by being here and loving the show (really just loving the show is enough.) Upthread is a link to places to write to and other advice on what to do to spread the word and support the 'Verse. Beyond that don't give up hope every day more people discover the 'Verse and in time Serenity will fly again.

Hey Danen,

I understand your frustration: you've seen the series, done the BDM, and now you want to see something done... RIGHT NOW! Got it. And a very common reaction, at that.

Some write letters, and others try and be active in other ways. And all that helps; at least it certainly doesn't hurt. But, please, do not underestimate the power of just being here. We hold; hold until Mal gets back. That may not seem like much, at first, but we're keeping the fanbase alive (and preferably growing). And I heard Serenity, the DVD, is currently Nr. 1 on amazon.uk! Probably because we hand out DVDs to friends, and to the odd foe, too. :) But primarily so, I think, because of our all-pervasive word-of-mouth advertisement. That's the signal they cannot stop. DVD sales are going through the roof, everywhere, and nobody, except us, really understands why. Did you know that the FireFly box is selling better than "Lost" even!?

Like when the word got out about Miranda, we gonna carry the signal from here to the eyes and ears of the 'verse! That's my motto. Or it might be, if I start having a motto. :)

well i halfway made it up. pulled a whole bunch of Simon lines together. created my own. interesting view of things, makes sense. I just feel bad for those who spend so much time creating something just to be shut down. It was a good something too. I mean half the stuff on tv now a days is useless. Why the hell don't they show the good stuff and run dumb things? strange isn't it.

"...obviously if im reading ambrose. so please. dont say it like it isn't just"

English-like in its symbology, it uses our alphabet with clear generative construction of serperate "word seeming" structures. It may or may not be trying to communicate.

Clearly, your school isn't good enough.

Really, we're positive and fun here, and we'll get our BD story continued sometime, somehow, somewhere. Never fear! Just spread the word!

Don't let BitterBierce get to you. I've yet to see a post from him that isn't picking a fight. (Good idea about the pills BB. A good mood is a wonderful thing, you should try it out.)

Here ya go, new recruit!

*issues shiny new browncoat to Danen*

Despite evidence to the contrary (cause some of us are powerful contrary), we really are glad to see you've found what we all love. There's nothing like it anywhere in the 'verse, and likely never to be again.

And just for you, we'll splurge and have some Nian Gao, something sweet 'cause you've had enough sour in this thread so far. So come and belly-up to the table, dig in.

And as a few of my fellows would say, hold the line.

We'll bring back our Firefly and fight the good fight.

Hey, Danen03, I see you got your browncoat from Kaele. She seems to have you in order. Wear it with pride... we all do here. Contrary to some posts on this page, we are VERY happy you are here.

Usually this is a shiny place Danen, where we all get along like family.. only family that gets along. You know.... You will have folks come along and welcome you here by saying welcome home. We mean that.

We have a lot of fun here while we hold the line and wait for our sequel. Please make yourself to home. We are glad you are here!

Hello,

There is a list, somewhere about, of all the books comics and tie in things that are available for avid consumption. Like's of the River Tam Sessions, the comic trilogy that brigdes the gap between the end of Firelfy, and the start of the movie, and a few tie in books, like Finding Serenity. Which is worth reading for Firefly vs. The Tick, an essay on the parallels between the two shows as written by a crazy person:tm:.

BB? You're hanging around on the site of a T.V.show celebrated for its idiosyncratic use of not one, but two languages.

Pickin' on peoples use of words, not the done thing (Plus, almost completely redundant).

Bad boy! Go to your room

I smell food. Nian Gao? Mmmm... cake. Must mean another recruit stowin' away on the ship. :)

Like others have said, just being a fan of the 'verse makes you a 'coat. Now go out and spread and the love. There's a few threads around here with some ideas on what we can be doing to help relight Firefly, and I saw upthread a link to another shiny site with some good ways to go about it.

Most important, though, we hold. The veteran Browncoats had to go through quite an uphill battle to see the BDM get made. It took perseverance, fanatical dedication, and heapings of patience. Now that us cavalry have arrived, just imagine what we can be capable of doing.

So keep the faith, spread the word, and know that we'll all be here holding the line until Mal returns.

Welcome aboard. Like others have said, best thing you can do is spread the word and hold the line till Mal returns.

I spent the better part of last Saturday getting my buddy hooked on FF and I've been writing reviews for FF & Serenity wherever I can.

It's been very encouraging to see the flood of great reviews on Amazon, the latest have been from folk like me...rented Serenity, loved it, bought it, bought the FF DVD set, and bought into the whole 'Verse...hook, line, and sinker.

I'm now buying every dang piece of FF mechandise I can find...cuz as an earlier poster mentioned, cash flow talks, and it's the only language spoken in Hollywood.

There have been many tv shows I've liked, loved, and been a devout viewer of, but never, ever, have I been this swept away by a show. No tv show or movie has ever given me the impetus to join a fansite either.

Finally, I've seen a LOT of tv shows & movies in my 40+ years and can say without a shred of doubt, Firefly was the best damn show ever made, period.

What really hits me is the fact that there wasn't a whole build-up. I'm always surprised at how when they go to promote a movie, there's junk everywhere: ads, t-shirts, toys, books, collectables, trading cards. You name it, there's merchandising with the movie's stuff all over it.

They didn't do that with Serenity. Is this because the felt it would flop?

It makes me wonder, with this run of sales on the movie and series, what the movie industry moguls are actually thinking. There wasn't a whole lot of marketing, and we the fans are doing it mostly for them.

What was that line?
"There's nothing like a major motion picture to make you feel better about your TV show being cancelled."

Not only have the fans done so much, but it really bowls me over that it isn't just the scifi community that really enjoys this movie, it fairly well STOOD ON ITS OWN MERITS!!! There was no typical hype leading up to a movie. The cast was not made up of headliners where the name of the star is all the advertising they need.

If I were Joss, I'd be sitting back in my little hidey hole, and just chuckling. With a big sh**-eating grin on my face.

All hail the Joss.

i almost completely agree with you Kaele. It is funny how Serenity has attracted so many people, such as myself, all on its own. I didn't see one commercial for it, I didn't hear one reccomendation-- until after i watched it -- but i was so impressed, my whole family was. We immeadiately bought the FF series and I haven't ever been so excited to sit down and watch something like that before. It is a real shame it didn't get father into it. This is the type of show that takes lots of time to build up, not only time but money. Had fox given FF more time, i think it would have most definitely been a bigger show. There hasn't been anything like it before. I bet your right, I bet Joss thinks its funny that they let it go. it is successful without press. imagine what it would have been had it been advertised just a bit more.

Now, normaly I'm the type to be a pessimist with no faith in anything, but with Firefly I'm determined to see more of it, and I have faith that I will.

Like everyone else has said, dig in and hold. Buy what you can find, I especialy recomend the comics, and the visual companion (which not only has prety, prety pictures and the script, but also has loads of interviews and background info. on the 'verse.)

So welcome, and enjoy your time here amoung us Browncoats.
