I came into possession of a plastic miniature cargo box, labeled in English and Chinese, filled with shredded wood filler and the following Firefly items: hip flask, hat, tshirt, spacefood, jerky, nebula map, Serenity boarding pass, a letter from Mal, leather folder, and some blueprints. Half of this stuff is labeled "not for resale, auction, or Internet posting", so I do not know what to do with it. Does Fox come after people for long-cancelled show memorabilia? Is keeping it for myself just plain safer?

It was the Fox network launch kit sent out to affiliates before the first airing. The only item missing from the kit is Mal's ID tag.

I really like it - all still in the same condition it arrived in - but I'd part with it for enough shiny coin to buy my pixels some fuel booster...

sastvguy-
I got your shiny coin right here. Thing is, you'll have to muster the gonads to disregard the "do not re-sell warnings" and do a proper internet auction/sale. Do you really think anyone would come after you to prosecute for selling memorabilia from a off-the-air TV show? I don't. Now get that treasure up on eBay and reply here with a link... or are you really that afraid of the Alliance :P

So...maybe just auction the other half ? Either way, I won't tell F*X folks if you don't.

Please, do keep us posted!

My friend you will most likely get a small fortune for this item. I wish I was lucky enough to own one of these lovely kits. I have long lusted for one & even bid on several a couple years back but they just went for too much for my wallet to handle (unless of course my wife & kids don't mind skipping meals for a week and not having electricity for awhile).

The last one of these that went up on Ebay went for nearly $500.00. I'll keep an eye on it.

Small fortune? That sounds about right. Back in 2002 they were going for about $200 on eBay, way way way out of my price range.

I think a few hundred of these were sent out by FOX Television to various press folk and the like. Most of them were more than likely tossed out, since it was a 'press kit' for a failed TV series....

here is the text from the letter ;o)

Dear Friend,

It seems as though my crew and I have once again found ourselves in a heap of trouble. The Alliance has quickly become "interested" in our every movement. So, we're heading back out to the fringes of the universe to lay low until the heat dies down. As a fellow Independent, I'm hoping you could keep these items safe in case we run into those nasty Reavers.

I'm much obliged for your assistance. Until we meet again...

Captain Mal Reynolds

'Twas I what penned that shiny text. Here it is:

This here auction is for Firefly/Serenity collectors only and consists of an 11 inch by 18 inch by 7 inch miniature “cargo” box, labeled appropriately for all folks in the ‘Verse in both English and Chinese. It has a “Lock-Down when in Anti-Gravity” sticker on one long side, and a “no passengers or human cargo” multilingual sticker on the other side. The top of the crate is labeled “To a Fellow Independent”.

The cargo box contains the following:

(all clothing unworn, all food unopened)

1 Action Snacks dehydrated fries labeled as Alliance property

1 Texas Best Beef Jerky with Firefly label overlay

6 postcards – 5 cast shot cards and one Serenity shot card

1 Firefly hip flask (shiny!)

1 very colorful Alliance planetary nebula map, tri-folding

1 Firefly fake leather folder containing:

A short letter from Mal Reynolds

A Serenity boarding pass, dated Friday, Sept 20

1 white Firefly t-shirt, size XL, logo in gold

1 “Joss Whedon’s Firefly” hat, black cloth, red embroidery, adjustable

1 set of three blueprints

Serenity – Engine Room

Serenity – Rear Corridor

Internal Specs

Things have a way of getting older, ‘specially things ferreted away, but sure as sin nothing’s creased or torn. ‘Tis a gorram fine box for the right shiny coin. A precious to be sure - and precious to me truth be told, but my ship needs parts and sometimes the right now has to ride above the back then.

I have held these for quite a spell, but I reckon someone else in the ‘Verse will put ‘em to proper display. Now, the Alliance is a might testy about some of this here contraband, so just between us, this is a simple business transaction for a hat and a tshirt. Anything else in the box, and by that I mean everything I listed above, will be a happy bonus sent to you with my thanks. (Um, yeah, Jane, that means they get everything in the box)

A video card, RAM, tower, and a power supply. Shiny, indeed. Not sure if he scanned and posted anything, but I was nervous to what with all the Alliance legal mumbo jumbo on most of it. I wish it had gotten more so I could afford the Browncoat replica on Ebay from the Firefly series costumer. I doubt my wife would wear any of Inara's dresses, but I could get her to go to the SF Browncoat Ball in September if the Raiders are in town the same week, lol. She'd get football, and I'd get to attend an amazing event. In that replica Browncoat, and perhaps a LARGE (and inert) six-shooter, a great entrance would be guaranteed. Ah, to have silly amounts of cash.
