MILFORD

Hello, this is a bit of shameless self promotion but here goes:

My wife and I have one little girl (Blari, 2 1/2), but we had a bit of a tough time getting her. My wife had cancer when she was in high school and though the radiation treatments worked like a charm (cured for six years now!) they did have the unfortuante side-effect of damaging her reproductive system. We were able to have our daughter only by using a large amount of expensive fertility medication. Unfortuantely, we weren't finished with the family.

After talking and praying for a long time we've decided to adopt a little girl from China. If you're not familiar with the way female orphans are treated there, let's just say it's enough to make Niska blush. I see it less as an adoption and more as a rescue mission. Those girls need our help, and in the words of Mother Theresa, "Don't wait for leaders. Do it yourself, one on one." So we are. There are a few hurdle to cross though.

First hurdle is the age requirement. Both parents have to be 30 before the adoption takes place. I'm in this year, but my wife is only 13. Just kidding, seeing if you're paying attention! She'll be 28 this year, so we have a couple of years to go. Whiich is good because of the second hurdle.

The second hurdle is the cost. The adoption fees are steep. The US government is pretty friendly by offering a tax write off on all expenses incurred. The only problem is that you have to have spent the money to get it back. I know most of you guys can relate to being a little strapped for cash. I'm a teacher and she stays home with our daughter.

That's where you Browncoats come it. To help raise money for the adoption costs my wife (Ashley) has set up a business. It's called Baby Bobo and she makes blankets and burp cloths and other baby things ( www.baby-bobo.com). If you know of someone who is having a baby and need a gift, I hope you'll look us up. Our dream is to adopt at least one more after Kate (that's our Chinese daughter that we don't have...YET), then use the money we make to offer as grants to families in similar situations.

So, if you need some baby stuff yourself, or if you know someone who does, check us out first. I don't know if she could make a Serenity blanket, but she certainly could make something Asian-inspired, and could probably even make a brown one if you asked her nicely.

Thanks Browncoats in advance for helping out.
