I'm gonna have to agree with your list 'cause any other movie I've seen was not even close. You know what movie I'd put in the number one slot, but I can't say it. I've never seen Bowling for Columbine. Also, I'll add the Jurassic Park Trilogy.
Edit: forgot to add, Big Trouble in Little China and The Pricess Bride and Batman Begins(Batman and Batman returns were good, but "Begins" was better.

For me, this is a loaded question, since there are som many favorites for genres and su-genres and stuff like that. I'm just gonna go with what comes off the top of my head.

AMADEUS- This is in my mind, the best fucking movie ever made. This is the movie that perfectly captures the pain and ecstasy of being an artist. It's a great meditation on man's relation to God. It's a period piece that's actually exciting and not boring since it find so many contemporary parallels. It has great music attached to it and it's just so perfect.

BACK TO THE FUTURE III- I know a lot of people think this is the weakest of the BTTF movies, but I don't care. I saw this movie when I was 6, and it was the movie that spearked a lifetime passion for film. It's the movie that made me who I am.

CLERKS- All of Kevin Smith's movies, actually. But this is my absolute fave for obvious reasons.

LAST NIGHT- I'm writing my essay on this movie since it's not only the best end of the world film IMHO, but it's also my favorite Canadian movie. I would so this film to anyone who scoffs at Canadian cinema and wonders what it has to offer.

L.A. CONFIDENTIAL- I always thought "THIS is how you do an action film" whenever I see this flick. This is without a doubt the most balls to the wall, razor sharp, no holds barred action flick. And the reason I say that is that when you watch the action scenes, you feel the punches to your face and the bullets that rip through your gut.

GARDEN STATE- So far, this is my favorite movie of the decade because it perfectly captures my generation. And the final twenty minutes of this film is the most perfect thing you've ever seen.

Anything by Stanley Kubrick- This man is what I call a REAL director. This is a guy who works on a whole other level of consciousness that we can only grasp to understand. Any one of them.

FANTASIA- This is still in my mind the pinnacle of the animated medium. Just one segment alone should be able to convince you.

I got a lot more, but it's late and I wanna go to bed.

ok, i love doing this!!!! my favorite movies are:

1. The Big Lebowski - Absolutely the smartest most hilarious movie ever. FANTASTIC. Highly recommended.

2. Dazed and Confused - An essential and accurate depiction of life in the 70s. And a damn fun movie to watch too.

3. 2001: A Space Odyssey - More than a sci fi pic. The most thought provoking film I've ever seen. Unbelievably far ahead of its time. Most people even today don't understand it.

4. The Shawshank Redemption - Excellent script, great acting, great direction, great story. Very powerful movie.

5. The Breakfast Club - What Dazed and Confused was for the 70s this is for the 80s. Funny and even insightful at times. Excellent.

6. Schindler's List - Spielberg at his very best. Powerful, tragic, and inspiring. Every person should see this movie.

7. Star Wars - One of the most influential films of all time. Completely revolutionized the movie industry forever. And at the same time it is a hella fun movie to watch, with cool special effects even today. I honestly whole heartedly prefer the special effects of this movie then the computerized effects of today.

8. Crash - I am reluctant to put a new movie on here because I havn't had much time to let it sink in and it hasn't really been measured by the test of time, but this movie was fantastic. I've only cried once in my life in a movie theater, and it was during this movie. Outstanding film and very deserving of the Oscar it won.

9. The Lord of the Rings trilogy - Landmarks in the history of cinema. Great entertainment and fantastic visual achievements.

10. Blade Runner - What an extremely haunting view of the future!! I really love this movie. Gets my vote for best sci fi pic ever, even though 2001 is higher here. So haunting! Great villain too.

11. Raiders of the Lost Ark - An absolutely essential part of American culture and cinema. Very fun movie with a cool plot and Harrison Ford at his most bad ass.

12. Jurassic Park - I never ever get tired of this movie. It is just so much god damn fun!! An awesome plot with awesome ass special effects and amazing music with good acting combines to make one hell of a good movie.

I think I will have to add one more movie to my list,

The Last Samurai

This is THE ONLY movie starring Tom Cruise I can stand to watch. It was also the only movie I ever cried at when I watched it, and I've watched many movies with sad parts (ie- Serenity, Braveheart, Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan). If you don't know what I mean, go watch it and you will know. Truly under rated and amazing film.

CARTOON

Even though I done this in the past, compiling a list of favorite films is difficult -- mostly because of the specific criteria used to judge a film.

If my criteria was simply how much I enjoyed a film, few films would outrank "Serenity", "Galaxy Quest" and the original "Star Wars" trilogy. (For example, there are great films included in my list which throughly depressed me -- and which I would never want to watch again -- as opposed to something like "Serenity", which I could watch repeatedly, and enjoy with every viewing.) So, my list is based on more than just an "enjoyment" factor.

I also believe that one should judge a film based upon their initial viewing of it (which in some cases, could be many decades ago) -- as opposed to what they thought of it after years of subsequent viewings.

Lastly, I believe every picture is better seen in a theatre -- so there could be some bias regarding films initially seen in a theatre* as opposed to films initially seen on TV.

That being said, here is my top 20 films...

1. Schindler’s List (1993)
2. Ben Hur (1959)
3. Citizen Kane (1941)
4. Hamlet (1948)
5. The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
6. It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)
7. A Tale of Two Cities (1935)
8. Saving Private Ryan (1998)
9. The Godfather (1972)
10. Star Wars (1977)/Return of the Jedi (1983)
11. The Sound of Music (1965)
12. The Big Parade (1925)
13. Casablanca (1942)
14. Gone With the Wind (1939)
15. Bambi (1942)
16. Aliens (1986)
18. Serenity (2005)
19. The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957)
20. The Lord of the Rings (trilogy) (2001-2003)

I couldn't believe no one had mentioned any of Coppola's Godfather films, but cartoon snuck it in. Other than that, all of you people seem to have great taste in movies (and TV shows, but we all knew that).

KAZE

Serenity sorta redefined my standards for a good movie. A lot of what i've seen recently i probably would have liked if i hadn't seen Serenity. I just expect more from a movie now. Anyways here's some movies i love, i'm sure i'll forget to list some of what's been mentioned, you people like some good movies.

The Crow
Evil Dead movies
The Princess Bride
Houseguest
Star Wars ep 4-6(gotta agree with the person who said the effects were great for the time and i do think they are better than most CGI stuff now. The original versions are the best to me for effects and everything else they changed.)
Big Trouble In Little China
Sleepy Hollow
Labyrinth
Indianna Jones and the Last Crusade
Pirates of the Carribean
Moulin Rouge
Highlander
Die Hard
What Dreams May Come

I know there's lots more but that's all that i can think of at the moment

GPB as a chick flick?

Of course it is.

10 year school reunion, long lost romance, caring PA concerned about her boss's mental outlook and steering him in the right direction, true love in a wary sort of way, fathers giving their blessing, therapy sessions, questioning if it's love, or a new found respect for life.

And what has to be one of the best martial arts fights ever. None of that cod-Kung-Fu sterility and detachment Hollywood and TV uses to show fights, but without anyone actually getting hurt. ( eg Martial Law. All the cops do Kung-Fu, and so does every single bad guy. How many dojos can that city have?)

GPB is an ideal date movie, too. If the girl, or boy doesn't like it, you'd be better off binning them right away.

Yeah I know
They're not the only difference, usually the US versions have more extras... well it was until recently.
Not only did the international versions of Serenity have more extras (And different artwork), but Fox released 2 disc versions of films like I Robot, Day after tomorrow and Man on fire before the US. Its about time too
