working on 1976 280z to be themed after the serenity. Would love any ideas for the exterior or interior of my "firefly" or graphic design work to fit on a 16:9 ratio "control" screen in photoshop or ill. format.

Also - I havnt finished watching the series for the first time yet! Still two more to go, lucky me.

thanks and Hello, Lincoln

*yay first post*

I think it's mighty shiny!

I have no idea though...my smarts are not so much in the car department.

I also still need to get one...

But I think it will turn out awesome. Promise to post pics when it is done?

Love the three switches.
Dinos on the dashboard?
Any thought of trying to reproduce the plates on the exterior of the ship?
Seat covers fuzzy like cockpit seats?

What fun!
Have some strawberries.
If your thread attracts the attention of the right people, one of them will be along to issue a virtual browncoat to you.

Envy, envy, envy. Sure wish *I* had two more episodes to watch. As it is, I'm wearing out my DVDs.

The palm trees and dinos, was brought to my attention by the fan who i borrowed the series from (dont worry, i will buy my own copy, cant stop the signal)

What do you mean by the plates on the ship, the exterior metal look? Yes - the wallpaper i created is all glossy, but i dont plan on it being a clean looking car, it will have have a rougher exterior then the one pictured, I just used a nice photo to paste some graphics onto... your ideas for the exterior would look like?

Fuzzy seats is a great idea! They need to be covered anyway...

if you go to my zerenity project page i also have other ideas posted there.

Thanks for the welcome.

Good start on that web page, lincoln.

By "plates" I refer to the metal plates which cover the outside of the ship. To make myself clear, I don't mean putting things on the outside of the car, only using color and texture to create the impression, as in creating stuff for theater.
I can already envision Serenity-esque plate-work designed to fit the contour of your Z-car. Lots of exterior images are available among our fan-generated work here, and in screencaps at still-flying.net:
http://still-flying.net/images/
and there'll undoubtedly be more suggestions as we go along.

Blue Sun's corporate colors seem to be blue and white, as in the logos you see dotted around the series, even on the coffee can which contains the "crybaby."

If you do LED work you know how to fill the dash area with winkie-blinkies.

Could you put in a Broadband screen?

How about a yoke for the steering?

And we have to make sure you have the up-sticking corn-colored hair....heh.

I noticed a few solar panels on the outside of Serenity. Don't know how clean you want your car to look, but solar panels are always good to keep your battery going. Could be put in a sunroof or something too.

Yes, solar panel(s)!!

And a treatment of the back end that would display the golden glow-y color between the claw-shaped things which close partly over it. ??
Too bad the Z doesn't have more of a rear...

These are Great ideas, i would love to add a yoke, i will check into that. the Firefly seems to have a rust bronze metal patina that is not uniform, so that should look cool. A broadband screen? What ever it is I like the sound of that.
I was thinking a widescreen mounted in ther rearview mirror with a backup camera and sony psp for entertainment and control screen effects. I can get a solar panel that charges the battery. I would like most of the items i add to have some function... like my extra toggle switches - Im thinking about taking the reverse lights switch and moving that to a toggle, so you have to flip it on manually....

for the back end... i might have to try and build some sort of rotating interior mounted device that spins and glows, it would take up to much space i think... the zcar is short on space, but it reflects the firefly crafts origins pretty well: designed in japan for the american market, mass produced, low value, lots of potential :)

You're right about the varying color of the panels. And it's an organic, rather than riveted or welded look, which saves on having to do effects with paint.

I'd thought about the "spinny part" while discussing another project here, but kept running into a creative block when trying to make it go "all the way around" the vehicle without extensive work. Maybe a little skinny wraparound channel with sequential lights peeping out? Dunno. Seemed like a water-catcher but I leave it to you.

Your rearview mirror would be equivalent to the broadband screen, but without the special shape.

Also -- a big red button on the dash? -- Heh. Each time I see an episode which occurs after Out of Gas and catch a glimpse of that button I think about Alan Tudyk sending it to Joss after the series was cancelled.
