The poll asks "which movie should win a Hugo award for the best dramatic presentation, long form?"

There are some other good movies in there but I voted Serenity.

Here's the link.

Ain't that just shiny?

P.S. - How did Nathan lose by like 1.3 percent on that last one...That makes me sad.

Serenity, Still 51% after my 2 cents! I had a hard time choosing between Batman Begins and Serenity, in the end Serenity came out on top!

Even though Serenity (IMHO) doesn't have the time to do justice to the full span of the 'verse, it's still heads and shoulders above the rest of the candidates.
Batman Begins was a great movie, but I think it's primarily owing to the performance of Christian Bale, as well as execellent art design.
Serenity is a full-blown original sci-fi universe brought to the big screen with many unique plot textures that are unknown to sci-fi films today. (Although not books)
The firefly 'verse is so creative. If that's the criteria for judgement, Serenity should win hands down.

Went and checked even though I had already voted and it's at 53% still and 610 votes.

I still think that all this attention that SciFi is paying to the movie and to Nathan Fillion is a good thing. They are connected to Universal and it can't hurt that these polls are getting lots of votes for our movie and our BDH.

Makes me smile!

Yes! We have taken the early lead with more than twice the votes of our nearest contender. That's Batman Begins at 24%.

We can't just rest on our laurels though. We have to keep voting all week long.

I have to admit that I really do like two of the other movies on that list. For the hell of it, I'll discuss them here.

Batman Begins really brought life back to a failing franchise (I'm mean the movies. I know nothing about the comics). And I thought that there was some great acting in it. Most notably from Christian Bale as the Dark Knight and from the villans. Liam Neeson and Cillian Murphy were just amazing. I have to say that I would love to see the Scarecrow return. Mr. Murphy seems to play crazy quite well.

I also liked The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (I will not call it The Chronicals of Narnia. That is the name of the series, not the single story). It was visually stuning and, I think, did a fantastic job of translating the book. My biggest problem was what they did to Susan. That was not the character in the book.

As much as I liked both of those movies though, I didn't even notice that they were on the list untill after I had voted.

All I saw was Serenity.

ZOID

"Batman Begins" was the only other serious contestant, as far as I'm concerned. Having seen all the other entrants as well -- with the exception of "Wallace and Grommit", and how did that get nominated for a freakin' Hugo?! -- I can say I voted "Serenity" with no hesitation, and feel fully justified in doing so.

"Harry Potter and the 'Gobbler' of Fire" was a good story for the worldly-unwise. "Batman Begins" breathed a new life into a franchise gone to seed; but do ya' really care? Only "Serenity" had the full-boat: novel characters, story and ideological concepts. It's a film for people who want fresh ideas and voices. And isn't that what the Hugo is really supposed to represent: novel (meaning 'original') science fiction/fantasy storytelling?

Respectfully,

zoid

P.S.
"The Chronicles of Narnia": a kiddy story; or a thinly veiled religious propaganda vehicle, your choice. Brought to us by Disney, with their usual flair for the obvious. Ugh...

P.P.S.
Where the aitch-eee-double-hockey-sticks is "King Kong"? With the exception of a couple of stretches of CGI-overuse, that was a great, dark story. Naomi Watts can convey more with a look than most actors can say with a thousand words... And don't tell me it couldn't get considered because of its release date, either. I got dragged into TCoN,tLtW&tW by my kids (in conspiracy with my wife), when I really wanted to see 'Kong'. So, that's no excuse.

And sadly it looks like the new poll has nothing to do with the verse. It's about the ST TV show.
