The time has finally arrived, folks.

Voting for the 2006 Spacey Awards is now open. Go here:
http://www.spacecast.com/spaceys/

Viewers' Choice categories are Favourite Movie (that's where you'll find Serenity, and some really good competition, but Serenity's just out of their league. I wanna see a landslide here, people), Favourite TV Show (knowing that Dr. Who and BSG are shoe-ins, and that SG-1 has won for like three years running, I'm throwing some love Supernatural's way), Favourite TV Ensemble Cast (again, I'm eschewing the obvious and going with The 4400, who had a harder job [IMHO]), Favourite New TV Character (really tough choice between Col. Mitchell & Rose, but Mitchel gets my vote because he had so much inertia to overcome as the O'Neill-substitute [that said however, I kinda want to see Rose win, just to see Billie's acceptance speech]), Favourite Video Game (no real preference, but I'll vote for Battlefield 2 just on technical grounds), Favorite Action Sequence (the Batmobile chase, 'cause I'm in love with the car), and Favourite FX (sadly, our BDM was frozen out. I'm voting for Narnia, you guys can vote for anything that isn't Star Wars).

The Spacecast website has this to add:

Quote:

For the fourth year in a row the SPACE production team will travel the globe to track down and honour the finest in science fiction and fantasy entertainment. Featuring SPACE on-air personalities Kim Poirier, Jonathan Llyr and Natasha Eloi, The 2006 SPACEY Awards will air Saturday, May 27 at 9:30pm ET, following the much anticipated season two finale of Battlestar Galactica, airing at 8pm ET.

“SPACE viewers have demanded it, Canadian sci-fi fans can't live without it, so yes, we're poised to return to the airwaves with yet another edition of the annual SPACEY awards, Canada's only sci-fi and fantasy television awards show,” says Paul Gratton, Vice President, Entertainment Specialty Channels, CHUM Television. “In a sea of television award shows, the SPACEYS avoids the podiums and boring award dinners and takes the show around the globe to find the winners wherever they happen to be. The SPACEYS, are proof positive that SPACE continues to serve the interests of Canadian sci-fi and fantasy fans everywhere.”

Viewers can get involved by voting online in seven Viewer’s Choice categories from March 23 to May 8.

What are you all standing around here for; let's hit those polls like only rabid Browncoats can!

I'm surprised that Serenity isn't up for an effects award. There were some great ones. Do you know anything more about that?

Are people voting and just not posting here?

Have we given up on Serenity getting official recognition?

Is it too late to get Haken to put this as a news item?

Serenity and BSG got most of my votes.

The toughest category for me was the "Best New Character". James Marsters was a surprise entry although I've seen him on Smallville twice now. Ultimately, I had to go with Ben - couldn't resist the Farscape ripples of love.

I was annoyed that 'Serenity' wasn't up for the action award, because I think Summer's work in her fight scenes was a greater achievement than all the other action heros put together!

Voted! I don't get the Space channel down here [ever though I not that far over the border], but they take my vote so that's good enough for me.

Of course I voted for Serenity as the best movie, not so much because I want it to win (but I do) but because, damnit, it was the best movie in that list. I also gave Resident Evil 4 the best video game vote, because that was an awesome game.

That's true! The only movie I saw tih action to rival Serenity was Batman, and the stunts in that, while neat looking, were still just run of the mill fight scenes. Not anything like what Summer did in the BDM. Good call Ember.

SW may have had millions upon millions to play with but that goes to show you money will not buy you a good screenplay. Man the storytelling on that one was utter garbage. He needed to tighten that sucker up.

I voted for Serenity. They need & deserve the love.

I'd also like to send a message to the blockbusters that they need talent before money.

Well naturally I voted for serenity but despite my love of sg-1 I don't like the new cast ensemble or the new plots as much as I've enjoyed lost (although admittedly only season 1 has aired in the UK so far), but I just can't bring myself to vote for star wars for FX they didn't overwhelm me despite having so much cash and I can't forgive the crappy nooooo! for darth vader when there's a peter jackson and andy serkis movie (I still have my LOTR loyalties).

I think that they would think that it would spoil the suprise. Guess we just have to wait until late april for the awards to be announced.

Probably not; they tend to be proprietary to Space. I'm hoping a few captures will turn up on Kazaa, bittorrent and the like, courtesy of those who have the ability to put TV content on computer (an ability which I, sadly, lack).

I am sure one of us Canuckistani Browncoats will find a way to first record then distribute the recording to all you unlucky souls who don't have access to Space! The Imagination Station;)

Surprised Space! and Sci-Fi don't have a share-a-like relationship....cuz Space has a lot of stuff from Sci-Fi and I think some of the original programing from Space could do well on Sci-Fi.

I voted for Serenity and then the rest was Lost. I'm a HUGE lost fan so that was a no question vote for me. If Serenity had been up for more I would have voted for it over Lost because Lost will be around for a while and Serenity needs the help. But I'll probably forget to watch so someone remind me when it comes on.
