NEWBROWNCOAT

Just thought I would relate something that happened to me this week while traveling overseas. I only recently became a Browncoat, now I'm totally hooked, but I didn't quite realize just how many Browncoats there are ! I live and work in South Florida in the US, but am in the UK this week teaching a class way out in Yeovil, about 150 miles west of London, not exactly a dense population. Before shutting down my laptop to take it with me to use to drive a powerpoint presentation, I took a minute to check into this site. Then I ended up leaving Internet Explorer displaying the main FIREFLYFANS.NET home page and putting it into Standby. So, when I hooked up my laptop to the LCD projector getting ready to teach my class, this web-site's home page was displayed on the main screen. It was only up for about 3 seconds before I deleted the window. But right away someone asked me if I was a Browncoat ! And get this, there were only 3 other people in the room at the time ! What are the odds ? Granted, this was a technical class with engineers as students, and as a group engineers are probably more into sci-fi than others, but this really blew my mind.

Just can't get over how badly FOX screwed this up. To gain this much popularity and loyalty mostly by word of mouth (my son turned me on to it), geeze just think what could have happened had they not done everything they incompetently could to try and make it a failure.

I was in a Lecture hall at Edinburgh University (It was an open day, not at Uni yet) but anyways.

You know how people like writing on desks, well on the desks in the lecture hall was "You can't take the sky from me". I reckon is fairly likely that this is a reference to Firefly.

Welcome aboard!

I hail from near Bristol in the UK which isn't all that far from Yeovil.

Good to have another new Browncoat join us!

- Shiny. Let's be bad guys.

Now I am learning about scary.

This is a shameless plug, but you might want to check out my thread "How Many Countries are Represented Here?"

http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=19393

I count 24 countries so far! Isn't that shiny??

In fact, I have been following that thread already. Great idea for a thread, by the way !

But it is one thing to read about Browncoats chiming in from other countries (the web is a big equalizer - its everywhere) but it is quite another to narrow down your audience to a total of 3 people, located pretty far from anywhere I would expect to find Browncoats, and then find that a 3rd of them are Bc's. I still find it amazing.

Well, if you want tenuous, the former (Liberal) MP for Yeovil speaks Mandarin.

Badass bio, too. More politicians should be Marines and SEALS (equivalent)...
