Hello all, I have just discovered the Firefly universe, and WOW. A great show, with great characters and great ideals - not the usual sci-fi rubbish. The best thing for me about Firefly is that there are no aliens - I laughted out loud when in one of the final episodes you have the token nutter ranting on about aliens, absolute classic.

Anyway, I was shattered to find out that the show had been cancelled, and have been reading on some attempts to sign petitons to get the show back on air, my question is "What Will It Take" to get Firefly season 2 to be made?

A 1'000'000 signed petition?
Money Raised?
Threaten to burn down Fox Studios?

I just don't understand the reasoning for cancelling a show with such promise, and such a great story line. TV is so boring at the moment. Firefly was so fresh - new ideas - new ways of bringing the story to the screen - and bloody excellent characters. So if we can find out what is needed to get Joss "whats'he's'face" and Fox to finish Firefly, we can bloody get round to doing it!!!

Welcome to the site :D. It will take a lot of DVD sales quite simply.

However if you want to March on Fox HQ with pitchforks im your man lol.

Hi there, and welcome aboard!

Yeah, like Dowie100 says, money - it's what they understand. (I wonder, do you think we've got their attention yet with all the DVD sales of Firefly that must have happened?)

Basically, help spread the word. The more people that find the 'verse and buy copies, the more money the show will generate for the PTB and hopefully that will get them keen to make more to keep lining their pockets, and so we get more. Plus, all those new converts that you can make, might in turn go on to tell others about it...

It might not work, but it's worth a try.

I felt the same way you did after finishing this series. (which I also did after it had been canceled)

I already bought my Firefly DVD set, and I won a copy of Serenity yesterday. Woooo! I was so happy I couldn't stop raving and ranting about how I loooooved Firefly when I won the DVD.

I wish there was something more we could do. If anybody has any more ideas I'm all for 'em. If they brought Firefly back I think I would die a happy woman.

There's another question on all this then; which would you prefer to see, another series or another movie?

Me, I'm all about the series. I want my weekly fix! Long, measured and slow...

Good question Rach. I would prefer the series to return, but I would take a movie if nothing else!

Having the series back would mean more hours then what a movie could provide, you know what I mean? Each episode could be it's own little movie.

I read somewhere (I think here) that Firefly is still in the top 25 DVD TV series sales on Amazon and that's after almost 3 years being released. No other show has lasted that long and all the other 24 DVD's are from within the last 2 months. You would think Fox would notice that. Obviously it takes a lot to stay in the top for that long.

I'd prefer the series back, theres so much story to be uncovered, if it were a film it would have to be rushed and then wouldnt make any sence, like many many many sci-fi films out there!

But how would we find out, what it would take to get the show back on line, im in the uk so cant go down to Fox and hand them a letter. Some one needs to find out, im a web developer by profession so if we need a proper website devoted to the collection of emails and donations thats not a problem, but im only prepared to do that if it WILL make a difference!

I've really taken the cancellation of Firefly to heart, its such good story telling, i havent enjoyed a series this much since i was 8 years old watching Thundercats. If we make enough noise Fox will have to buckle under the pressure, but we need to direct our noise in the right direction!

Ive read articles that refer to Firefly as the best show ever cancelled, so if its so popular why has it been benched? Supply and Demand! We Want Firefly, we're willing to pay to watch Firefly, so give us what we want!

Yay, someone with skills!

I know. I KNOW!!!

I'm UK too and very new at all this posting lark, not to mention totally computer illiterate. But while I do adore chewing the fat, I'd love to see some action on this. Particularly given the maelstrom of activity that seems to have recently sprung on this board.

So, action? I think finding out how it worked before would be a start: i.e. who do these things go to? All well n' good making noise but we need to be sure the windows are open.

I don't really know what I can offer to help, except boundless monkey enthusiasm. But how refreshing would it be if something got powered by love instead of cash?

Tell me what you think.

Best case would be a TV seriesHowever a Movie would be second best, followed by a TV movie or Direct to DVD.

Heck an audiobook would be great, just listen to "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" radio series's to see what I mean.

Firefly being canceled, I took to heart as well, I watched the film first though Im sad to say I hadnt heard of Firefly before Serenity. I find it hard to watch the film with crying, why Wash and Book :(.

Its just when I see all these crap sequels (Big Momma's House 2 for example) and there is a gem like Firefly/Serenity with an uncertain future.

I'd prefer a second season. Although I don't think it would be called Firefly. I think Joss would carry the name Serenity over from the movie.

As for what we can do to try to get the series back, well, constantly bugging Fox about it would be one way. Another way would be to keep spreading the word and encouraging others to watch/buy the Firefly and Serenity DVDs. And then there's playing and winning a lottery so we could offer to fully fund a second season which I'm sure Fox wouldn't turn down. Hey, the next Powerball is $220 million ($101 million cash value). I know I'm playing.

By the way, I'm not 100% serious on that last point. I don't recommend anyone start buying lottery tickets. You're much more likely to gamble your money away than actually win anything.

It's not impossible to get the series back. Family Guy was canceled as well, but there were so many fans of the show out there that they brought it back.

This can be the story of Firefly as well. We just need to be loud, and make some noise. Maybe we could start massive emails to Fox, but that leads me to another question. Does it have to be Fox that picks the show back up, or can another channel pick the show up? Like the Sci-Fi Channel?

There's another thread going on that's talking about the Sci Fi Channel/Universal etc.

I'm in Scotland, so all I can offer is the BBC, but hey, they've fully supported the raaaather mahvellous new Dr Who (new series this weekend...yay!).Ya never know.

Winning EuroMillions and funding a new series...what a fantastic idea. I was going to cancel the debt of some African states, but that's a much better idea.

P.S. Had another thought. Rare at this time of the morning.
What TV show would you see cancelled/sacrificed to give a new series the airing it deserves?

Personally I'm going for 'Skinny Housewives', and 'Lost (the plot)'.
And why is Charmed still running?
Not my cuppa; apologies to anyone if they're fans!

Can't say I agree with you on the Lost thing. I'm a huge fan of Lost. I think the writers are amazing, and the story line is great. It doesn't move as fast as everybody would like, but the drama mixed with the Sci-Fi is awesome. The flashbacks really give it a nice kick.

I think it would be cool if Sci-Fi picked it up because I don't think much would need to be sacrificed for the show to air on that station.

Going to the convention which featured Lost and Firefly stars was the best thing in the world! hehe

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Maybe if we diverted the nav sat to the transmiter to make the signal go further?
Seriously, though, I would love to see sc-fi pick it up. Fox be damned! I wonder about that, though. I mean, I think they would have picked it up if they could afford to, I know Joss was pitching it everywhere, can't imagine he'd miss appealing to sci-fi. That and the rights might be a problem. You know, if we could get everyone to just stop watching Fox until they agreed to bring it back, that might work - boycotts are very effective - but I don't see how that would happen. I've tried to convince people to boycott so many things in my life and have had very limited success. That would fit with my opening comment, though; they couldn't go anyplace until they found the signal.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome Maxrimstain! Glad to have you aboard!

As my fellow browncoats have said, we are focusing all our efforts on promoting the movie DVD. Right now pretty much everything is riding on the DVD selling as many copies as is humanly possible. In order to do that we are trying to introduce the movie & the series to as many new people as possible to expand the fanbase & sell DVDs.

Be sure to show the movie & series to everyone you know. If you can afford it, buy copies of "Serenity" on DVD & give them as gifts. Spread the word.

Keep flyin'!

What will it take to see Serenity in orbit again?

I think tv exects with enough smarts to know when they have a money making property on their hands. One starts with an acorn before one gets a giant oak tree.

From what I've seen Serenity/Firefly fandom has grown by leaps and bounds in a short time. New stories told by a new tv series can only bring in tons more fans. Of course if tv executives don't see this its only because they don't want to.The blind fools ( followed by mad, crazy laughter)
