I mean, there's a lot of deleted scenes in the extras, some of which I find really shiny, like the Inara at the temple scene ("A WHAT with a WHO?!"), and they tie the story together in a nicer way.
Okay, so we probably won't see anything new, but they did the same with "Tears of the Sun" - all the added scenes in the Director's Cut are in the extras of the normal retail version, and nothing else is new.
Of course the music would have to be redone for the added scenes, and the computer effects finished and all, but since the DVD sales are doing well, maybe there's hope. You know YOU'D buy it.

BTW I think I'm gonna get another Firefly box tomorrow, like some of you already did. I gave mine to some friends to convert them, and now I feel kinda naked, like there's no food in the house.
Is that weird?

You can bet your shiny boxes that I'd buy a DC!!!
(yes, buy more boxes!)
Those scenes with Inara were sweet!
Totally sweet!

I fear Joss isn't interested in doing it, but hey, WE ARE BROWNCOATS!
We might misbehave with him if he doesn't make one!!!!!!

Uh, and isn't it weird that I can't stop logging in, these days?
Sort of trying to overcome the sadness...
I figure I'll lie on a more relaxed standard, in the future...

If Firefly were created by Peter Jackson, we'd probably get a "PERFECT COLLECTION" with the whole Firefly series, Serenity in "theatre" and "DC 4 hour" version (EVERYTHING with 4 commentary tracks, of course) and 2 bonus DVDs plus all kinds of goodies.

Oh, and the official announcement for a continuation of the series and a 6 hour+ clip of Summer dancing. It's supposed to be perfect, right?

No, because you probably already own it. Joss has stated the theatrical cut is his director's cut. You can maybe hope for an extended cut, but that's not necessarily the same thing. . .

First, yes Agatsu, I'd buy a Director's Cut, an extended cut, and Shiny Edition, a -whatever you want to call it and put on it- version! Yes, oh yes, double dip Universal, I'll buy and buy. It just makes it more likely I'll get to see Mal again.

Second, no it's not weird, I assure you. If you don't get another set, you will go from the vague feeling that something isn't right to being unhinged a little. Then if you continue to ignore that desire to have another set you will begin to pine for Firefly, maybe even mourn your inability to watch it. My advice.. order the other set as fast as possible. It's bad for your health to be without it.

Me too. I wouldn't have to stop/go to deleted scenes/select Inara and Shayda/watch it/go to menu/play/skip to where I left off....

I love that scene, and some others.
Maybe he could make the Personalized Browncoat Edition, where we could choose what scenes to add/extend before playing- that would be awesome, nes pas?

That is my understanding too MohrStoutbeard:
Joss was able to make the movie he wanted,
he cut scenes because he thought they slowed down the action without adding anything really necessary (he included the deleted scenes for our fun, but he said he didn't feel they were needed to tell the story).

Personally I'm not interested in another version of 'Serenity'... I just want the sequel!

Yeah, well, EXTENDED cut, then. I'm just listening to Joss's commentary to the deleted scenes, and he says how he hated to cut so many of Inara's scenes and his favorite joke in the movie, how he thinks that this scene is Nathan's best acting and that scene ties this and that better together, and that this scene was cut because the general movie-goer didn't care about how a companion's life was like, and this scene and that scene etc.
Of course he mentions pacing reasons once or twice, but do we care about pacing? Director's (or extended) Cuts are mostly for fans, anyways.

I'm gonna go to the store and get another Firefly set tomorrow morning, it's quicker.
Thanks for the advice and the soothing words, though.

Heh. I think a significant point he mentioned was that theater audiences "need to go to the bathroom" so he couldn't leave in everything he liked, for reasons of overall length, even when pacing wasn't affected.

DVD watchers can pause the things and go do whatever they need to do.

Browncoat Edition, yeah!

Would I buy a Serenity extended cut? Frak yeah!

I like the sound of that title, by the way. Serenity: Browncoat Edition. Shiny.

Oh my yes, please. I'd jump at a "Shiny Edition." Of course what I'd really like to see are some more commentary tracks. It's nice hearing Joss ramble on about the lighting, but it'd still be shiny to hear what the rest of the BDH's had to say about the movie as well.

Yes. I'm a little skewed toward the technical stuff myself, but have wondered if that didn't leave some viewers cold. Would love to hear from production people and so on for one track -- or on extras (see Pirates of the Caribbean for examples)-- and BDH voice-overs, possibly even two tracks' worth. Expensive, I assume...but *that* would be worth the double-dip

Support your Shiny Browncoat Edition!

I've love an extended cut (or just more deleted scenes, even if they weren't integrated), more outtakes, and many more commentaries! more anything, really.

That sounds really nice Dowie.

I think there should be a few more easter eggs. Just a few little things that you can discover, preferably that make you laugh and/or sing along.

Yes! I would buy one! I want the scene with Mal and Inara on Miranda where they hold eachother! Why Joss?! Why, if you cut it, did you not put it on the DVD! I have seen pictures! It was in the shooting script! It seemed like it was shot! Why not put it on the DVD! I understand leaving some things open between them for a sequel but you could have given us that!

I'm in for a "Shiny Edition"!

Amen to that... I was so sad when I read the shooting scrip and realized it was no where on the DVD!

How about the design of the box, then?
I'd love it if it were some kind of rusty-looking (rust=brown ) tin box that looks like a supply box with the Independence Logo imprinted on it and some bullet holes, and the inside is made to look like a "war memories" chest. The design of the covers and booklet and all should match this pattern. Like an "instruction manual"-design for the booklet, for example. The DVDs themselves should be in one plastic thingie resembling the video chip from Miranda (you know, with the important message). It'd have to be a bit bigger, though. And there should be some "old" looking (at least on the edges) "snapshots" of the crew with fun stuff written on them in there, and at least one completely-useless-but-gotta-have-it-item, like a medal for participating in the Battle of Serenity Valley or blueprints (with "notes" by the crew? A pic of Walsh with a nice message to Zoe written on it would make me feel all weepy inside) or some spent shells or something. All of the above, preferrably.

No shiny (in the old fashioned sense) box with flashy photoshopped pictures and a Serenity keychain or some such, I want nostalgic "authenticity". I always preferred authenticity over the usual blah-franchise. Just imagine finding that box in the attic in 15 years...
Maybe they should put some hankies in there, as well. Independent hankies, of course. None of those oppressive Alliance hwoon dahn hankies. Those suck.

Ah, f*ck it, they should just put every piece of film and interview and trailers and promo and convention stuff and fan movies they find lying around on there. And lots of commentaries by everyone. Maybe that fan movie about browncoats that's supposed to come out soon, as well. Everybody would be happy.
Like I said, extended or director's cuts are mainly for fans, and fans want EVERYTHING. I mean, Robert Rodriguez put a ruttin cooking recipe on the Sin City recut, for crying out loud!
If each of the people on this board were to purchase just one set (and we'd definitely have a higher average than that), that'd be 20000 copies sold right there, just to us on this board, no matter what the price. If it's still reasonable. Or slightly unreasonable. Or ruttin theft. We don't care, we'd buy that brick of gold without
flinching, doing a little happy dance. You know it, I know it. Let's hope they know it.
Ah, one can dream. And many can make dreams come true.
