Ok... I've been a Firefly fan for about 6 months or so. I own the movie, I have season 1 on DVD, I troll the websites... but I have only watched about the first 6 episodes. I just don't want to not be able to see a new one. I figure if I watch about one episode per month, maybe when I am done, there will be something new almost ready?

Regardless- this may be a good idea or not, if I could stop myself at watching a single episode at a time!

Yes you are very weird, but that is just shiny, as you are in the company of weird people here.

I can relate as to how hard it is not to watch episodes two at a time. My best advice is to flip through the forums so you do not think of the next episode to watch, or take up another hobby, like drawing. That is the best I can come up with anyways. Good luck.

You're very smart from my reckoning. They just get better. :) Take your time. I recommend watching each one three times before you move on.

I was kinda' like you. I was with Firefly from the beginning, back on Fox. But it took me some time to get the money together for the DVDs. When I finally got them I watched the episodes I'd seen a ton but held off on the ones I hadn't. It was tough. Eventually I got down to one un-seen episode and started to freak. I couldn't decide whether to watch it and not have any more new Firefly or to wait and have that one last piece left. Well of course I watched it eventually but I held off for a while. I'm sad there aren't any more new ones but I'm sure glad for the ones we had. And don't worry, they never get boreing, so you'll never get sick of watching them over and over again, just ask anyone here they can tell you that. lol

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Not so weird.

Welcome to the boards SerFatty. Glad to have you aboard.

Stretching them out to make them last is not a bad idea. You might try watching an episode, than a week or two later watch it again w/ the commentary. Those are a blast and give some really unique insight into the episodes.

Another thing you might want to try is sharing the episodes w/ friends and family while it is still new & fresh for you. You will not only spread the word to them as needs it told, you will get to see new episodes with them for the first time.

Spread the word! Keep flyin'!

You're not weird by any standards here (hee, hee!), but I am amazed at your self control!

Welcome! Somewhere in this site someone listed, in order, all the steps to prolong the experience. I think it's called "The Order of Things" and if I knew anything I'd post the link, but I'm not that computer savy.

Reading fanfic has been my favorite post-viewing experience (besides watching the entire thing in order every month).

heh, when I first discovered the 1st season dvd box I was doing good to not watch more than 2 episodes a night. I admire your self control though

I also admire your restraint. I gobbled the whole lot over 3 very long nights BUT had the sweetest surprise of my life a week later...

You see, I'd downloaded them off my freeloadin' flatmates computer, then decided to get my act together and order the boxset. Imagine my joy to find one he'd missed. And it was 'Trash'. And it opened with Sexybum butt naked on a rock. Not to mention the return of my favourite side character, Saffron.

Oh, the shouts of jubilation are still ringing in my ears.

Seriously though. You should watch the rest. They're awfully good.

Yeah they get better towards the end *sniff

I rushed the whole series in a week then thought, damn thats it. I cried at the end of Objects in Space when River came back on board Serenity, it was a fitting ending the Firefly, I am sure not the one Joss Intended but it provided at least some closure.

I just hope we see a new series of Firefly sometime soon, or a movie or even an Audiobook/Radio Series.

Nah, you're not weird. My husband wants us to watch ours every now and then, not everyday like I want to. His reason behind this is so that we can always enjoy it and never get burned out. I am not sure if I could ever get burned out, but I must admit it is pretty smart. Don' tell him that

EMBERS

take your time and enjoy...
but rest assured that they do need to be seen 2-3 times before you 'get' all the subtle hints & clues embedded in each episode,
and there are the commentaries to enjoy...

so have fun!

Dang I was gonna answer yes and say you are weird, but now everyone thinks you're normal and that means I'm weird -

*Backtracking*

Actually I know what you mean I do the same with a good book, just never want it to end so that the mystery is always there... Although I have to admit I have no idea how you control yourself so. When I bought Firefly I had to really fight the urge not to watch the whole thing at once!!! Were it not for hunger pains and the fact that the sun was coming up and work was calling me I'd have just carried on watching.....

Sort of one the same topic... I just got the box set of Wonderfalls this weekend (thanks for the heads up to whoever it was that pointed out that a bunch of TV series were only $18 at Sam's Club). In my area only like 3 of the episodes played, so I have like 10 episodes of un-seen goodness. Do you think I should watch them all at once or pace myself?

How about if you watch only one episode for the month? That sounds good to me. Think about how well you'd know that episode by the end of the month. You could watch it with commentary and without over and over...sigh...sounds great.

Well, if you are weird, I must be insane. I am also a very recent fan. And very ticked off that I only found 'Firefly' after it was off the air.

I got my 'Serenity' movie and entire season on DVD from Amazon.com and was on the edge of my sofa watching the episodes I recorded on my DVR from Sci-Fi channel until it all arrived. My husband is supportive of my habit and even let me take my movie to our little cabin in the woods to watch on vacation. What a guy.

I must admit to being an Adam Baldwin fan since "My Bodyguard". On the edge of obsession but not quite there. Well...according to my kids, I'm there. But Jayne is such a great character! How can I not be?!?

At my local book store, I got the book 'Serenity'. Love it, love it! And I must admit I made a 'Firefly/Serenity' bookmark to keep in it. Yep...I'm long gone. Welcome to the club. *sigh*

I wish I had your self-control. I watched the whole series in one sitting. I kept thinking about how I should pace myself, maybe watch an episode or two every 18 hours, on my way home from the store. Then after I finished two episodes, I thought "one more, just one more...one more wouldn't hurt." But then Bushwacked totally broke my resolve. I had a dentist appointment that day but to hell with that, I couldn't care less if all my teeth fell off, I just want more of the Captain and his crew! *sigh* Good times.

Needless to say when I woke up the next morning I was feeling so down. Nothing to look forward to. No more Firefly. Hit my head on the bathroom wall a few times for being an idiot. Then throughout the rest of the day, I tried to focus on anything non-Firefly-related(really hard to do) hoping that I would forget what I watched the previous night and enjoy it again for the first time.

As expected, I was unsuccessful mainly because A. I was napping(and consequently, dreaming about FF), all throughout the day because I had only 2 hours of sleep and B. My first experience of the 'verse positioned itself so firmly between "that first time with a girl" and "that first time I read Isaac Asimov's Foundation series" that it would take nothing short of lobotomy to erase it.

Re-watching the series and the movie gets me by somewhat but I still long for that pleasant feeling. Is there a 12-step program for Firefly-holics?

Btw, not that I'm complaining because I know that FollowMal's been busy with the flood of newbies like me, but it's a bit chilly in here and I haven't been issued my very own browncoat(hope you can find one that would fit my really small frame).

You poor thing. Being a newbie myself, I feel you pain. I believe there are more than a few here who read you post and were amazed at how much they could relate. Nice to be among fellow Firefly addicts, huh?

I'm still clinging to the hope and delusion that it will return. I am on my own planet of denial. *sigh*
