Can all the newbies introduce themselves here, please? I'm all happy that so many people are getting involved but to have a thread to introduce every single new person is sort of starting to get annoying as well is burying everything else and making it hard to follow any discussions. Right now there are more threads on the front page from newbies introducing themselves than actual discussion on anything else. So can try to keep it to one or two or even three threads, please (I know it is impossible to get everyone to post to one)? But can we try so we're not burying everything else?

Thank you.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I agree!
And I will state, for the record, that I did not do an annoying introduction thread. I introduced myself on that "closing on 20,000" thread, I think. Anyway, I'll re-introduce myself here because I could still be considered new-ish, even if I have thrown myself into the boards with all my obsessive energy.
Hi everyone! Very pleased indeed to be here and be part of all this.

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I know that some browncoats seem to get annoyed w/ intro threads, especially when they sometimes bump other threads off of the main page. I do not however think it necessary to start a thread & ask that new people to post in it.

I am overjoyed at the fact there are so many new browncoats turning up lately. New fans is exactly what this fanbase needs right now if we want any hope of a BDM sequel or any other sort of future for our 'verse.

We should all do all we can to make them feel welcome & encourage them to spread the word. I think expressing aggrivation over their intro threads will have a negative impact on their enthusiasm and willingness to post here. This site has been called the friendliest on the 'net by quite a few browncoats & I would hate to see some new people leaving feeling like others here don't want them here or are annoyed by them. I am sure no one else wants that either.

So, enjoy the influx of new people. Embrace it! Celebrate in the fact that our efforts to spread the word are working! New people are discovering what many of us have known for a long time, that Firefly & Serenity are fantastic sci fi & deserving of a chance to fly. We NEED these new fans a lot more then they need us. A little patience and courtesy will take us all a long way.

Just sayin'.

I agree, Browncoat1. I open the newbie threads eagerly, I wanna hear the shiny new stories, even if it's the same old story told for the millionth time!

I don't think there's any need to herd newbies into one tidy place. Newbies to the right, newbies to the left, it's all good!

I was one of the guilty parties that started a thread when I joined...I did not know I would "bump" anything off the main forum.

I was welcomed with open arms, and have since put my two cents worth in several threads. I also try to visit all the newbie threads as I am still new myself. This IS the friendliest place on the web, made better in that we all share the same love. Welcoming newbies is fun! The more the merrier!

Hey, Scametti!

Welcome to the ranks.

I know there's at least one organized group of Browncoats in Oregon, I think in Eugene. If you go to Yahoo groups and do a search for Browncoats, Firefly, Oregon, you'll probably find them.

In the meantime, welcome and keep flyin'!

Yep, I agree 100% - new people are good, and it's always nice seeing them find their way home. Plus, it shows that the signal is spreading - and that's exactly what we need!

EDIT If people want to follow a particular discussion, why not just bookmark that thread (or copy and past the link into a word document) - then if it gets bumped off, you can still find it quickly and easily. That's what I do.

But since a few of you recruits have found this one, let me say: Welcome one and all! We love new people, they all have stories. And it makes no difference whether you answered YES in the "Did you watch it on Fox" thread, or found it yesterday. If your coat is a brownish color, you're one of us.

go to http://www.bigdamnboard.com they have a great listing for local groups.

Plus for oregon I believe there is a group, this was on that website:

Well, Im not new to the Verse but am new to this particular site. Been spreadin' the word since day 1 and gots me no reason to quit now. Though I liked the movie and thought it was very good, Im far more a fan of the series then the movie.

As for who I am, I like to think of myself as a good person, Even if I don't always do the right things. I spend a great amount of time either listening to music (The Kovenant is an Industrial/Space based music group btw) or playing electric guitar & bass. If your curious where I live look up Planet Ceres, Thats where im from and is as close as you'll be gettin' to knowin' my location. Oh and we need an Emoticon for my most used line.. Cheers!

Been here for several weeks now, (showing his Browncoat to everyone) but if y'all wanna hear my story again...so here goes:

I had seen the initial ads for Firefly, but they didn't really peak my interest, gorram Fox, and it told me nothing about what the series was about. In fact, I had the misconception that Firefly had a "K.I.T.T." character in it-- you know the spaceship that talks back.

The only episode I saw was the very last part of "Trash" when Saffron was in the trash recepticle and Inara is there with the Laser pistol guarding her.

Years later, in March this year a friend came over and showed us the first four episodes he tape from the Scifi Channel FF Marathon. I was hooked! From that day on, I wake to the Ballad of Firefly and feel my day is not complete until I meet up with everyone here!

From Connecticut, former Star Wars obsession now a Firefly/Serenity obsession. I firs saw Serenity on DVD, then Firefly, and i do have to say i am blown away at how much of a good thing i was missing out on. Watching these fine examples of quality have certainly made we a little pissed at how much the Prequal SW trilogy actually sucks....Just imagine what Joss could have done with Serenity if he had 150 Million bucks!

I am usually not a TV Sci-Fi guy. In fact i hate Buffy, Angel, Farscape all that stuff, and im a film snob. But what can i say, after reading multiple 5 star reveiws I made myself watch Serenity and here i am..

But now i am a brown coat

Hi all. I'm new. So new in fact, I'm only on episode 10. I just got hooked last week. I've still got a few episodes to go and then the movie. It's bitter-sweet, like a good book, as the number of pages becomes fewer and fewer. Like any addict, I want more. I like too many aspects of this show for me to even begin to list.

As for me, I'm near Detroit, Michigan, USA. 25 year old computer programmer.

Like Chindi, I'm a fan of rank swelling and think it's swell -- er -- shiny to see all of you arriving.

In the galley are things like hot cheese, little sausages on toothpicks, strawberries and cream, and the Captain's Own Repeating Bean Dip with reinforced dipping chips. Step right up and question the buffet.

Try to keep the food off your coats, and don't step on the ShipsCat or into her dish.

Well, I've been a member here since March and I found Firefly when my ex introduced me to the first ep. I went on to love it, he hated it - there's a reason he's an ex!
I didn't have Sci-fi at the time so I never saw it past that first episode but I waited patiently, or not so patiently for the dvd to be released and have loved it ever since.

Just dropping in to say howdy to all the new 'coats out here

I got a nice warm reception when I first smuggled aboard, and my first thread wasn't so much an introduction as a long-winded rant about the unfairness of it all :P Anyways, shiny to see the signal's still spreading, and hope to see you all around the threads.

Why thank you, that's mighty kind!

I don't care what you believe in, just believe in it.

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

so thank you again for the welcome, the browncoat and the food...I'm here to stay and I aim to misbehave...

You are most certainly welcome GorramItalian.

I don't think that Rklenseth meant to be rude so much as to express annoyance at all the intro threads bumping other topics off of the main page.

We're all family here, so let's keep that in mind.

DURDEN

Hello all,
I was introduced to Firefly this week(ended up watching all the episodes in two days, who needs sleep?) and I must say i'm completely hooked, and very much disappointed about the series being cancelled. You all have quite the fire about you, and I hope I can be of use. I'll be sure to try and spread the word to everyone I can for the 23rd! Any Orlando, fl area fans out there?

One movie.
One day.
One mission.
On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.
Aim: Jasonghl

Hey, I've been on this site a few wekks but have never really introduced myself. I am completely obsessed with the Firefly 'verse and am really happy to have found this site because I have no-one else to talk about it to (though I am in the process of turning my friends into browncoats)

DONCOAT

*Emerges from the back room*

Okay, ComicGirl, here it is. I think it's a lot better, all the holes patched up just as good as the Cap'n's bullet holes, and cleaned up as well as may be. Restitched a lot of these frayed hems, too.

You really need to steer clear of Kaylee when she's been working on the engine, though. I don't think these grease stains are ever gonna come out.

Should hold you till the next shipment comes in from Shadow, I expect.

*Hands browncoat back to ComicGirl*

Hey, new faces! Shiny, welcome to the ship. It's the nicest.

LAUGHINGMUSE

I'm relatively new. Been lurking for a while, posted in a few threads.

I didn't watch Firefly when it was first on Fox, because 1) Fox did such a good coherent job of promoting it; and 2) Fox has a nasty habit of killing shows that I enjoy (S:AAB, Brimstone) and I just didn't want to give them another chance to knock a show out from under me. (Strangely enough, I have what I think is an early-model Firefly shirt that was passed out as a promotional item. I'm now ve-ery glad I didn't pitch it in the ragbag.)

I got interested in Firefly when it was broadcast on SciFi in spring/summer 2005. I saw Serenity in theatres three times. Before that, I saw Batman Begins four times. Before that...Finding Nemo, because it was 105 degrees and the theater had airconditioning. (I generally don't go to the theatre unless I think I'm going to be very satisfied with losing that two hours-and-$15.)

I have since converted four people directly, and ten more indirectly.
