ELLIS

I just finished watching disc 1 of the Firefly box set and it is great! I know I'm not going to be able to make it last very long, but that's okay; the shows are so good that I'll be able to watch them over and over and not get tired of them.

I can't believe that I missed this series when it was on TV. I also can't understand why it was cancelled. It's original and well-written with some great actors and acting. Maybe if there had been more promotion of it, more people would have watched. Like I've said, I never even heard of the show until after I watched Serenity, so maybe it wasn't making money because people just didn't know about it.

Anyway, on to disc 2.

Welcome aboard!

If she hasn't found you already you should go looking for FollowMal, she'll give you a shiny browncoat to wear, whenever you please!

Also, I believe you are correct, the channel Firefly was originally on(which shall remain nameless) COULD have promoted it better, but from the things I've read, they never believed in the show. Don't ask me why they wanted a show from Joss Whedon if they weren't going to back him whole-heartedly!

Welcome to the Verse!
There's lots to explore here..from tech stuff about our beloved ship to character and story anlayses to info about the actors, writers, directors (of course including our Captain, Joss), as well as fanfics, odd musings, shindigs, etc. Try to find other Browncoats in your area through newsgroups (such as Yahoo, et al) and meet these people. Also the people here are good folk.

Now I am learning about scary.

Welcome, Ellis! I suspect you'll enjoy Disc 2 just as much as you enjoyed Disc 1. And then there's Disc 3 and Disc 4... Sigh. I feel like watching all of them right now!

Oh, uh, back to reality. We're glad you're here and hope you'll stay a while.

We can never have enough Browncoats!

You know, I have developed a bitter little theory on this. Gotta think I'm not the only one to do so, but here we go just because I wanna:
I think what FOX wanted from Joss was Buffy. Or Angel. Something with Vampires and sexy young people kicking ass and having weird romantic entanglments. (If I'm off on this, please pardon me. Have to admit I was never that interested in the concept and didn't watch the show)
So they see this brilliant pilot episode and they're probably all thinking "Where are the vampires? Where's the hot young ass-kicker? (see, it didn't go far enough for them to find out there was one) What is this? It's not Buffy!"
So then they told him to be funnier, with "more action" maybe thinking that would make it more Buffy-esque. It didn't, but they picked up the show anyway. I think a little ways in they just all got together and said "Let's just wash our hands of the whole thing and not promote it and mess up the time slot so we can justify axing it. This isn't what we wanted."
At least, that is my theory. Never mind that it inspired devotion in fans. They decided it wasn't what they wanted because it... JUST. WENT. OVER. THEIR. STUPID. HEADS!
*clears throat* Sorry. Done screaming now.

I couldn't agree more.
They wanted something like "Dark Angel", and wound up with Firefly.
They had absolutely no idea what to do with Firefly, or the show's own peculiar merits.

Still, the show might have redeemed itself in the second half of the season if it weren't for all of the pre-empts and mis-airings. That's where things went beyond repair.

Narrow minds. There's a whole lot of people that will kill the goose that lays the golden eggs just so that they can feast tonight.

Hey Ellis! I'm new too but at least you've got the DVDs, I'm still scrounging up the money for them. Something about my parents not wanting to spend money on both the movie and the show? If only they would watch the movie, then they would want them too. Oh well, welcome to the 'verse!

New to the 'verse but ready and more than willing to learn.

Aye, I missed the show when it aired. Of course i live in England so by the time it aired here it was already axed. A friend had been on at me to watch Firefly for a while after that, but somehow I always missed it. I eventually caught the show on a sci-fi channel Firefly weekend, just before the release of Serenity into brit cinemas.

I'd seen the trailers for the film before various other movies and thought it looked hilarious, saw the ads on Scifi and went "wait...isn't that the guy from Serenity....wait!! Serenity is the movie of this show!?" And got watching. The very next day I bought the box set.

Oh and you're right Ellis, you won't get tired of it! Hey, who is Followmal? I want a browncoat....coat!

I've already started doing that. A lady I know is really into horses and western kind of things. I told her about the show; said it was kind a sci/fi western. She said it sounded interesting, so I loaned her the first disc of the series. Haven't heard anything back about her thoughts on it yet, but I'll let you know if we have another convert or not as soon as I find out.

Can't you jack someone's car stereo?

I mean spending the money on some C21H23NO5 would be criminal. But you're doing it for your education.
And that makes all the difference.

Just think of yourself as a freelancer!
Get those DVDs!!!!!

It took me months to get the set, and i've not regretted it a moment since.

Welcome aboard all
