So what did you honestly think of Slither?

I don't claim to be a movie critic or to know all that much about film, but I will attempt to relate my opinions on Slither anyway.

To start off and to put it shortly, I thought it was just a downright fun movie. I laughed a whole bunch throughout the whole movie, it was deliciously gorey, and I even jumped in my seat once or twice. And while I really did like the movie, I have to be honest in this review and admit that it really was quite unoriginal in just about every aspect. There was nothing new or fresh about it, other than the script which somehow mangaged to be quite clever and fresh. That is why I don't think it did very well at the box office. I think it was labeled as just another stupid gorey alien movie, which essentially is exactly what it is.

I am saddened by Slither's poor performance at the box office, but I can't say that I am surprised. I personally really enjoyed it and I plan to buy it on DVD, but I can easily understand why most people would choose to see something else. It was a well made film, the problem is that so many movies of its kind have already been made.

I loved "Slither" to bits...almost busted a gut a couple of times, especially during the scene between Nathan and Gregg Henry about there target being squid-like in appearance.

Though I have to agree....it was smart and well made, but it sounds like God-knows how many other B (or lower) grade horror flicks that end up in a bargain bin at Blockbuster cuz they suck so bad. Plus it wasn't some massive name star that will attract fans just by brand alone.

My hope is it will be the next "Evil Dead" for cult following.

CAPERCAILLIE

I went to see it....duh, to see Nathan, of course but I was surprised by the humor, pace, and plot. Elizabeth Banks was very good and our friend the mayor, was funny. I must admit (yes, I am a middle-aged mom) that I did not care for the gratuitous bad language. All in all, I liked it a lot more than I expected to.

Slither was awesome.

Sure, I wasn't frothing at the mouth like a rabid crack addict, like when I got my claws on a pair of Serenity tickets for the BDS.

Instead, I was worried that Nathan would have a bad film, and that everyone that I was with would hate it. (No Browncoats among them... yet.)

Instead, it provided me with some good thrills, chills, and laughs. I don't really get scared by horror movies. (I guess watching Alien at age 9 kinda burned the scary part out of my brain).

It seemed like everyone in the theatre was getting into it. My friends and I are bad people. We are going to Book's 'special' hell for talking during worm attacks. Do i have to sit with the pederasts?

Overall, it rated most fun horror flick since Tremors 1 as far as I'm concerned.

GRAYFURY

Wellllll .... It had some GREAT lines and the acting was solid... But it did feel like a rehash of other movies.... ALL of the characters were terrific near to the point of absurdity. Overall, If you like John Carpenter, Tremors, Bruce Campbell, Basket case, and the like... This movie will tickle you to pieces... "She eats a box lunch!"

I agree. I love all of the horror movies that GrayFury mentions. Horror has to be slightly amusing to me, or it's not credible. Oddly.
If someone tries to scare me without humor, then it had better be Alien 1, because nothing scares me like that movie.
I have a picture of me with Bruce C., and his autograph. Bruce is an awesome guy to meet by the way.
If you are actually scared by things like "Final Destination", then this movie probably isn't for you.

Loved it in the theater. Will buy the DVD so I can get the rest of the details I know I missed.

The R rating didn't help the box office, of course.

I'm with Capercaillie about the language. Would have cut the four- ten- and twelve-letter words by 98%. My Dad used to say that those words mean more when you take your time getting around to using them, and I know from experience that he was right.

Gore? Heck, I watched "Ariel" today and there may have been more gore in that. Mostly it was slime and goo.

Re-hash? Yes. Gunn pays homage to creepy-crawlies going all the way back to The Blob. Per-maybe-haps there were too many nods to predecessors. Reviews I read didn't make a big point of it.

I went to SLiTHER primarily because I'd never seen Nathan in anything else and wanted to know if he's an actor. Looks like it to me. I'll probably go to Whiter Noisier to confirm it.

My first time seeing Elizabeth Banks. Loved her.

If you want to see Nathan as an actor, you might want to rent Water's Edge. He's the saving grace of that movie, but you'll want to stop it half-way through regardless. Strong beginning (and I believe he's even naked in one scene... *GRIN*), but it gets horribly predictable and the ending is so cliche. I mean really, they didn't even try.

Anyway, about Slither. It was the first b-movie horror flick I've seen in the theater, maybe ever. I'm not a big fan of the genre... actually I tend to just plain avoid them, but our captain was in it, he's asked us to go for his B-day, and my brother offered to pay. So what did I have to lose?

I don't regret the hour and a half. There were great one-liners (mostly from the Firefly alumni), but I've heard better. A lot of great moments that could've been better if they paused to let the audience absorb them (case in point, kill me Bill *bang*). Elizabeth Banks was okay, but her accent was a little out there (this from someone who went to high school with Georgians who wore Alabaman belt buckles the size of dinner plates). I laughed, jumped a little, and was entertained.

My answer: It's okay, better than Ice Age 2 if you're debating which to see.

Yeah, had seen something to that effect already and thought I'd give it a miss. There are limits, after all. Watched Trash this afternoon (heh) so got my View Tattoo for the week.

SUBTORPMAN

I liked the movie, yes it did remind me of all those B movies I watched as a kid but I got to see a little of "Mal" at times come out in a few scenes. I just like Nathan's acting style.
