There seems to be a lot of discussion on what the slogan is for Serenity Day, June 23rd.

We have:

One movie.
One day.
One mission.
On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

and

One day.
One plan.
One army of Browncoats.
On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

and

One day.
One plan.
One crew of Browncoats.
On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

and

One Plan
One Day
The Browncoats Unite
June 23
We Aim to Misbehave.

and I've seen slight variations of these. So which is it?

I've made some banners, but the "slogan" seems to keep changing and, as I said, there's discussion as to exactly what it should be. Can we at least agree on it first before we plunge headlong into this?

(At least we agree that we're misbehavin' )

I still like the last one.
It keeps Browncoats, and keeps the idea of One Plan, without the possible military overtones. And I like saying that we're uniting for a common cause. :)

The first one is good, too, and would be my second choice.

We already are united.

There was also

One day.
One mission.
One army of Browncoats.

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

I actually like that better than "plan", and it would get my vote. I just haven't changed mine yet because I don't wanna keep changing it, and I still like it.

The "plan" is better to motivate fellow Browncoats, while the "mission" is better for use outside of the fandom, and I guess the plan is just about to turn into the mission.

But I guess it would be better if we don't argue about what means what and suggests what, but just put our suggestion on here and say which one we like best. No more discussing, just voting and 1 or 2 comments, sorta like I just did without this paragraph. Just so we get somewhere.
Agreed?

EDIT: Oh, and just to make things a wee bit more complicated, how about

On June 23rd, it's time for some thrilling heroics.

Or maybe we could change only the LAST line so it fits the picture it's on. The above being the obvious choice for a pic with Jayne wearing his hat. Kinda long, though. Just a thought.

One day.
One plan.
One army of Browncoats.

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

I like the first one to. And also agree that the seconed would also be a good one.

Someday the verse will spit in your soup but at least they gave you soup.

How'd we arrive at June 23rd again?

I'm for it, of course, but I missed why then, and not say...May 5th.... or some such.

Just wonderin.

I am sincerely hoping that the Serenity with all the extra features is released by then because if I buy the DVD without it to support the cause, i won't be able to afford it!

Any reason we are doing this PRIOR to the new DVD being released in the US?

Or are we gonna do it AGAIN with that release?

I agree with Kovenant (and some various others I've seen comments from). A plan is something you start out with -- the mission is what you carry through.

One day.
One mission.
One army of Browncoats.

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

The day is June 23rd.
The mission is to buy the Serenity DVD.
The army is the people doing the mission.

Capping it off is the date and the memorable, oft-quoted phrase from the BDM the non-Browncoat who has seen the movie may remember.

My .02 cents.

Hopefully something will fall out in the next day or two, without people being insensitive to each others hearts and minds.

Hera, Its no biggie. The thing we all need to realize is that we are all on the same journey. Each of us have a vital role in this journey and we can't leave anyone in our ships wake. Serenity will take us far, But only the power of those guiding her will bring us to our destination. Without being united we are simply Objects in Space

I'll try to approach this as pragmatically as possible, from an advertising point of view.

My assumption is that these slogans and banners are going to be used all around the internet to promote Serenity Day, to get people to participate in the mission of buying copies of the movie Serenity.

The elements of this are:

1. A movie (Serenity)
2. A day (June 23rd)
3. An objective (BUY the movie)
4. People to achieve the objective on that day (Browncoats).

Everyone seems to agree already that you absolutely need "One day". Everyone also seems to agree on "On June 23rd, We Aim to Misbehave". This shows clearly which day, and the slogan "We Aim to Misbehave" is going to indicate what kind of group is behind this to most people.

Then we have "One mission" or "One plan". By including this, we understand that there is some sort of objective, some action to be taken, and we understand when this mission/plan is to take place, but we're not yet sure exactly what the mission involves.

That would be why I'd advocate for the necessity of using "One movie" somewhere, so the following information is transmitted to readers:

"There's a plan/mission. It involves a movie. It is happening on June 23rd. This is a Browncoat mission... undoubtedly this movie can only be Serenity."

Banners, I would hope, would have some sort of graphics to indicate that we are talking about Serenity the movie. That alone, nevermind "We Aim to Misbehave" will indicate that it is Serenity fans (aka BCs) who are behind this.

My advocacy has to go with concise efficiency, so I would pick:

One day.
One movie.
One mission.
On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

or

One day.
One movie.
One plan.
On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

(or some other permutation of those elements)

Any of those passes along all the necessary information, and is nice and catchy.

That's my view on it, at any rate.

EDIT: In the overall scheme of things, I don't think it will matter too much, as long as there is a link to the upcoming official website somewhere in the sig. Any Browncoats out there who see it are more than likely to click and participate if they can. I'm just anxious to see the website once it's up.

You clarify the issue well, and I appreciate your reasoning. I like either, only leaning towards the second slightly. Thank you for this!

And since I love words, Websters Ninth New Collegiate (I'm dating myself here) sez:

plan (n) - 2a: a method for acheiving an end. 2d: a detailed formulation of a program of action. GOAL, AIM.

plan (v) - 1: to arrange the parts of. 2: to devise or project the realization or achievement of. 3: to have in mind. INTEND.

mission (n) - 3: a body of persons sent to perform a service or carry on an activity. 4a: a special task with which a person or group is charged. 4b1: a definite military, naval or aerospace task. 4b2: a flight operation of an aircraft or spacecraft in the performance of a mission.

Just wanted to say, for my own self, I prefer using the term "mission" also. It's a more active, grand and inspirational word.

I don't particularly have a problem with combining "Browncoat" and "Army". I realize there are some folks who have been quite vocal about the possible Nazi associations... but I think we can avoid this. The promotional material we'll be circulating will have graphics on it. Images of our gorgeous cast (all sci-fi/westerny), plus shots of space, and our shiny Serenity ship, will deflect any possible connections to "brownshirts".

Four ONE-liners (pardon the pun) is a bit much, and mentioning ONE movie - well, it's all about more than one movie.

Soooo, after reading lotsnlotsa posts in lotsanlotsa threads, I go with...

One day.
One mission.
One legion of Browncoats.

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

I know Kaele likes the "legion" instead of "army" part, and if we can get the blessings of the immortals now we can be on our merry. I know someone could still make the connection, but, well, screw that. If they read it on a flyer, it'll be next to a picture of a spaceship or a cool looking guy with a funny woolen hat or some such, and when it's in a sig it'll most likely be on a banner (because the bannerites can hardly wait for a final decision to seriously get to work) and/or have a link attached that will show in a second what we're all about - Firefly and charity and jolly merrymaking.
Believe me, I am touchy on the whole nazi subject, but you gotta draw the line somewhere.

On a side note (you might wanna skip the rest), a German national awareness campaign or something (along the lines of "don't cry and/or revolt") had the slogan "You are Germany" THIS YEAR, and that was a slogan the nazi party used as well back before the war - BIG screw-up. And it got noticed way too late.
I'm not trying to prove a point with that because critics and supporters of the army/Browncoats idea would both find good points in their favor in this. I just thought it was interesting that not even one of the many people involved in a government campaign would pick up something like that.
In that case, I'd say criticism concerning the analogy (and there was plenty, believe me) was more than justified (although the campaign itself promoted open-mindedness towards foreign citizens, the handicapable (another shining beacon of PC, that word), well, basically everyone. Blue skies and Forrest Gump music included.)
But...
YOU ARE GERMANY. - very obvious analogy.
Browncoats on a mission - not so much.
Besides, I think Americans should be more concerned with a lot of different, more important analogies to Nazi Germany in their country these days than coats that have the same color as shirts did 70 years ago, if I may say so.
If you wanna discuss this, open a thread for it in real world and I'll be there. If we start here I will get crap from people, and I want nothing but love. Love is better than crap in my book.
Sorry for the little stray, I imagine I was just sort of writing along while I was thinking about it. Be happy I wasn't thinking about my underpants.

And see, you made the connection to brown again.
Darn. Me and my nazi underpants.

Is there some space left to have „one ring“ somewhere?! I´d love that. Although I must bring to your attention, that it might be easily connected to Richard Wagner, from where it´s - again - only a small step…

Serious now. I know, there where a hell lot of suggestions already in the past few days and I believe the slogan achieved is very good. I agree with Agatsu, that the 4 ONE-Liners might be a little bit too pathetic. From those slogans already mentioned I´d chose:

I don´t know, if anybody cares, but my personal favourite´d be like this:

One day.
One mission.
Browncoats unite!

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

It is a dynamic slogan and sounds more like an international movement.

A.

Unfortunately, it also sounds like an insider thing or a convention, like the message is for fans only.
Now I feel kinda bad for criticising your idea after you liked mine... but it's really about the quality of the final product to me, so to speak, not pushing my idea through. It's not even my draft anymore - someone else came up with mission, and I like it better than plan.

It's simple and has rhythm.

One legion of Browncoats sound limiting or like a disease as in lesion.

Dictinary defintion:

le·gion

1. The major unit of the Roman army consisting of 3,000 to 6,000 infantry troops and 100 to 200 cavalry troops.
2. A large military unit trained for combat; an army.
3. A large number; a multitude. See Synonyms at multitude.

This is the one I've seen most often. And its the one I like the best. I don't like the "One crew of Browncoats" because it kinda implies that the crew of Serenity are all Browncoats. Plus, the Browncoats fought in the War so it would be an army.

Well. There´s no need to become harsh or unfriendly. It´s just that tastes are different and also certain rhythms in a sentence may sound different from one ear to another. So why not?!

On my behalf, I have no idea, what´s so charming about having "one" three times in a row?! I think it´s marginally better, than having it 4 times in a row (which isn´t charming at all), that being the reason, why we´re not saying "One June 23rd...". "One Legion" definitely sounds militaristic to me and reminds me of some really terrible low-budget horror movies starring "legions" of undead creatures.

But that´s just my opinion and I have no trouble to decide for ANY signature, because the most important thing in the end, is to UNITE, fellow browncoats.

Yeah, unite them to get NEW people on board. I'm sorry, but "Browncoats unite!" is directed exclusively at Browncoats - and we're trying to reach the rest of humanity.
And about it sounding too militaristic - it'll be next to a picture of Jayne wearing his Jayne hat, or the Serenity in space, so no worries about analogies to anything. Just don't use solely the Independents logo with that slogan.

I'm sorry, my post wasn't supposed to sound rude, I'm just getting tired. I'm writing the same stuff over and over again.

Apolgies if this was discussed elsewhere. But, the debate about the "Browncoats Unite!" sig sounding exclusionary brought up some thoughts -- thoughts about thinking like a Universal exec.

Universal wants to sell their movies. We want them to make a sequel to Serenity. Universal wants to get people to see/buy that sequel once they make it.

If we can agree that a large part of the June 23rd mission is to recruit NEW Browncoats and to get THEM to buy the Serenity DVD, Universal should understand this. June 23rd is not only about existing Browncoats buying a DVD they already own, but getting new fans to buy copies for themselves.

To the exec, this means more souls to pay to see the sequel in the theatre, and then perhaps buy the sequel DVD.

More people seeing Serenity through our efforts. More people hearing about the sequel and recognizing what it is.

That is what I think would convince Universal to invest. Not Browncoats with 2 or 3 copies of the DVD on our bookshelves. (not that that would happen, I gift mine away), but the execs might think that's what's happening, and it may detract from their willingness to invest in the Firefly/Serenity "franchise".

OK. I'm scaring myself. I just said franchise. Euw. Thoughts?

We are a passionate group of people and we just want to get it right.

How about dumping the whole one thing and go with something like this...

On June 23rd,
Light a Fire...
We aim to misbehave.
on Serenity Day

Just a idea

Now you're going Haiku on me.
Every line sounds sort of detached from the rest, which is not really working for a slogan. Also, it sounds like we're a bunch of arsonists.

I still think there's time to get the One Ring in somewhere, as aforementioned.

I'm not sure we're going to get complete unity, and maybe we don't need to. After all, the Browncoats were a volunteer army; many of them may have come with their own brown coat (with all kinds of differing details on length, cuffs, etc.).

As long as we have a banner using some variation of "one...one...one..." and the date June 23rd, won't that still get the message across? After all, most advertised products use slight variations on their tag lines.

Myself, I'm partial to

One day.
One movie.
One mission.
Find Serenity on June 23rd (or maybe Sending a Signal on June 23rd)

The reason is because the tagline "We aim to misbehave on June 23rd" made sense for Mal (he was going to do something the Alliance didn't want) but not for me (I'm going out to buy a commercially available product, an act actively encouraged by my government/society).

I think the version I prefer will still get the message across, and will be similar enough to the others that anyone seeing it will understand it's linked.

Plus, I'm not saying I'd go against the wishes of the majority, but it's not like anyone could stop me.

Just my two cents,

Indigo S.

I think we are of one mind.

It's hard to make an advertising slogan that doesn't sound like propaganda of some sort, simply because it's basically the same thing. And we're called Browncoats, can't and don't wanna change that.

Arabikum, thank you for my first laugh outloud of the day. Too true.

We'll make it, people. Several sigs I think are fine. They all get the point across, and spread the word. We all care about this and we all enjoy talking about it. It's fun! Well, at least I still think it's fun.

Maybe your on to something sense were just a bunch of independents anyway. Maybe you could write any variation as long as you include any of the following:

Browncoat
One
Serenity
Movie
Day
Mission
On June 23rd
We aim to misbehave
Plan
Day
Unite
Army
Let's be bad guys
Legion
Ring(LOL Hera)
Signal
Sky
Crew
We take back the sky.

The FIND SERENITY won't work because that's not our mission, but I do like the Sending a signal.
I don't like the "One movie" line, though, since more movies is what it's all about in the end, even though that day is about the first one.

Grumble. How about...

One day.
One mission.
One signal.

On June 23rd, we take back the sky.

I don't really fancy it so much myself, since I like the MANY that is incorporated into the third ONE in "One day, One mission, One league of browncoats". The MENTIONING of Browncoats would have been nice, too, but I'm really getting tired of having to defend it, so there. Be advised that the slogan above sounds more like it's about a TV series than a movie, and it sounds more general, but hey, if you take away a cook's spices, don't expect a gourmet meal.
Now if ANYONE says that new thing has an analogy to 9/11 or something because it has "taking back the sky" in it, we're back at square one.

For Universal, it could be "we take the sales sky high.", btw.

This is the one, because we are 'crew' in every sense: we care for Serenity, we 'work' and misbehave for Serenity, our hearts will be on board of Serenity and if what we will do on the 23rd will make a difference we deserve to be in the credits of the next movie

I kind of like the alliteration in Roland's

-
And believe me, on the boards I frequent (Remember, I'm a Highlander fan) people seriously know their history, and they would see the "one plan, one army of Browncoats" as relating to the Nazi reference immediately. If that is the one that's agreed on (Which, actually, I thought it already had been a day or so ago) I won't use it in my sigs or in any advertising materials on those boards, and would HIGHLY recommend nobody else try it.
There are enough variants to use on those specific boards, I think.

I’ve read this whole string and all the suggestions have merit but the key should be to pick one that satisfies all the necessary criteria.

To incorporate my favorite elements from two of the most frequently and most recently suggested, how about:
