I've been reading all of the threads concerning Serenity Day, and frankly, I'm beginning to get scared. Not just scared, frightened.

Guys, we cannot do this to ourselves, not now. Whether we lose the original date or not, we're beginning to lose something even more important than that. We've stopped being as much of a family.

I know I haven't been on the site long, but in the time I have been here, I've seen a dedicated group of intelligent, caring people. But in the last 24 hours, there's been more negativity here than I ever thought possible. That's not what Browncoats are about.

I'm comepletely behind Serenity Day, no matter what form it takes, but not at the expense of losing our community. So no matter what is decided, we have to remember what we're here for. We're flans, Browncoats, supporting the best gorram show (and movie) in the verse. We're here because we love something, and are willing to dedicate our time and effort into keeping it going. We cannot lose sight of that ideal.

We all promised to hold, and we are. But let's do it as one family, one crew. We still got an uphill battle ahead of us, and this site, this cause, is too very, very pretty to die yet.

At last.
We can retire and give up
this life of crime.

DeepGirl187,

I absolutely agree and if we could come together and do this as a "campaign" starting at June 23rd after supporting the SN/EN campaign, and going until September 30th... we'd all be shiny, really we would.

Please post your feelings in the voting thread, we need voices of reason and caring. I want my board back.. my shiny home I love so much.

Let's do it together. Not apart anymore.

Thank you, DeepGirl187

Yup. This is what happens when a group of folk get together and try to agree on something. Like planning a wedding, ya'll love each other but if Uncle Jayne is sittin' next to Cousin Badger.... a tussle is sure to break out.

Don't worry yet. These few are the folk that have STRONG opinions and need to be heard. The most of us are on board. There is 20 thousand here and a scuffle among the best of 'em is nothing to throw down arms for yet. Stuff like this takes time and planning and someone will always feel left out or betrayed or.........

Kaele is going about her business and will pull some rabbits out of her cunning hat and next thing you know I'll be printing some SHINY lookin' shirts and stickers that we can all use to gather the troops for the big day.

Just remember................

It seems like I read somewhere, just a few months ago, Nathan Fillion quoted as saying he was worried there might be a schism between long-time browncoats and the newer ones. Said he's seen (or heard of) this kind of thing happening with other fan groups. (I've no idea where that quote might be so can't give a link.) While this debate isn't exactly between old & new fans, it surely is a schism. I think our Captain would want us to get over this as quickly as possible and return to... oh, whatever else it is that we do.

I havn't seen much serious conflict arround the boards. (Well...unless you count that one thread about Book's last words that went haywire and got sent to troll country) Fact is, you get enough people together, there's bound to be disputes. As long as we're united at heart and know whatever insults get hurled arn't ment to hurt...Truth is we're more like the crew of Serenity itself then the independent army. Lots of differences, lots of squabbles, but in the end, we all love eachother. Families don't always get along all the time, but long as they still love eachother, and, in our case, love our shiny show, then we can always count this one a win. and that one. and the next one.

Am I the only one who thinks we handled (for the most part) the debate on a date change well? (Yeah, I'm new to this whole thing, but I've been lurking and I know a lot of people involved with this effort. )

I actually think this is an amazing group of people, and a debate needed to be had. But it stayed a debate, and I never thought it got negative. I have strong feelings on the whole thing, but I would never think of getting down on people who don't agree. I think we did a marvelous job at expressing ourselves without getting mean.

I love my fandom.

Now I am learning about scary.

I agree. These past few days I've almost been afraid to stop by for fear of reading still more squabbling over minute details. I also want to do what I can for Firefly/Serenity, but not at the expense of losing what makes this forum so great: respect and a common love of our show/movie & BDHs. If things go on the way they have recently, I'm going to rethink which threads I choose to read. I put up with squabbling and pettiness at work every day and I certainly don't need to come home and encounter more of it.

Call me selfish if you want. I'm just tired of the squabbling.

If they call you that, they'll have to call me it, too. Like you, I get enough of the bitch, moan, complain stuff at work. When I'm home...I want to be able to enjoy life.

This is probably why I limit my TV news to 10 minutes in the morning only...basically long enough to find out what the weather'll be for the next 2 days.

I haven't posted much here lately, but this situation is really bothering me. I'm reading about people who are growing afraid, scared, frightened.

WTF? How old are you people? This is just a message board. We're not sheep, we all don't have to agree and act like robots.

Older fans should not crush the spirit of the new fans. It's okay to have more than one activity on Joss's birthday. For crying out loud, what's the matter with everyone?

Ultimately whatever the "decision" is Browncoats will probably give their support. The fact that the debates are still going on is kinda sad, but understandable. As soon as all the decisions have been made and everything was agreed on (however difficult that may sound) we will probably go on and do the misbehaving that's been promised. ;)

Since I'm not the one crying about a broken fandom and ruining Joss's birthday, or arguing about a million minor details, I think you are talking to the wrong person.

I am reacting to the scared and fearful hysteria with my own chill. So, you can't chill me back, that's not fair.

Must say the last 24 hours have been a mite confusing for me. So first of all lets se that ive got the info right by now. Were running a campaign that starts june 23rd and ends september 30th?

Can say that I would hate for a schism of any kind to appear in our fine community. What I can say is that being placed geographicly like I am its hard enough trying to get some support for Firefly on my own. I know that we are in the end a electronic army , But I miss all the things like the conventions, chance to meet the cast and browncoat gatherings that you have in for instance the US. Dont really know where im going with this anymore but I think my point was this; that somehow when your on the fringe it just feels that much more important that we stick together.

You can’t stop the Signal.

That's because deep down, we all know Joss would love a big fight for his birthday...

But he'd prefer the "hot, nubile slayer type chicks slapping each other around" kinda fight...

Because, Succatash, one accomplishes more with a unified front than as a bunch of different factions all supporting their causes.

One Army Of Browncoats don't make as much sense when we're an Army, and a Shipload, and a Gaggle, and a Collection.

One army. One goal.
Right now, that goal's shifting a little- Charity on the 23rd, and let that kick of Serenity Summer- or at least, that's the hope. Could be that Bix and the others at Whedonesque have dug the rift so deep that won't really work, but we can hope otherwise.

I must say that the Serenity Day idea has finally reached its full potential. It's grown into something that will now actually make a difference. It is now the Serenity Summer Campaign and it will culminate with Serenity Day on September 30th. We need to be prepared for a war, that is why we need to plan a campaign. Everything before now was just the brainstorming phase, now we have something to make a difference.

We now just need to make a battle plan (it's just a reference please no one get offended). Once the website gets completed and updated to suit this campaign, we need to finalize the plan. It should involve advertising dates, convention movements, letter warfare (my big thing) and finally the DVD buying on Serenity Day. After the campaign we should have enough new recruits to make September 30th a success, because that is what we really need.

This all starts on June 23rd. My new sig says it all for me.

One plan.

We all share the same goal - more Firefly/Serenity.

One Army - One Brain kind of reminds me of Pink Floyd's The Wall.

If people squash other fan efforts in order to maintain a Borg-collective-style campaign, they are not only stifling the creativity and passion that comes with competition, but are also ruining the fun. And they come across as fanatical party poopers. And elitist control freaks.

This change does all the shiny things we needed to do to make this work for everyone!

DEWRASTLER

I think this is for the best. If people buy DVDs on the 23rd and give them out like they planned to librarys and such, that's just more support for the whole campaign and an even bigger Serenity Day on September 30th.

FLORALBUNNY

In the words of that celebrated lyricist, Tom Lehrer:
Don't be nervous, don't be flustered, don't be scared --- Be Prepared!

If all you can do is to drop a nice postcard to Universal to thank them for the film, you've done something. If you can spread the film and series among friends and family, you've done something.

Don't freak out. Stick around. Enjoy the site. Participate. Vin isn't the only one who isn't likely to get to a Convention or the Flan, or to a charity screening. We are many, and we are spread far and wide.

This place is where we can come to share Serenity/Firefly, our thoughts and feelings about it, our hopes for continuing the 'Verse in some way. We can show off our chiseled jaws without snapping our teeth. I know it. I've seen it happening right along, through all my lurker time and as a posting member.

If this is the storm, we'll pass through it soon enough.

TRISTAN

I think this is my first gentle leap into the fray here. I am a newbie to this site, and a newbie to Firefly and Serenity. I have shared threads with some of you, and probably will with the rest of you before this is all over. I am happy to be here, happy to have found a home. It has seemed like a minor family squabble lately, but nothing that cannot be fixed or forgotten. We all love this, or else we would not be here. However we wish to show our support, fantastic, let's do it! I am not normally a follower, but in this case, there are many who have been here far longer than I that know what is going on. I will be here, holding the line until I hear what to do next.

Y'all keep me informed.

Holding until you get back, Captain.

RHODRI

Folks!
A long time ago in a previous century, I was a member of a Star Trek fan club here in the UK.
Fandom was a happy family with numerous groups contributing towards the common goal of promoting and enjoying our fave show.

Over time as Trek became trendy again, more and more folks attended the Conventions, which are largely organised by the fans for the fans. These newcomers would bring nothing but their money and insist on professional level entertainment. Not only did they want a scheduled itinerary, they wanted us to organise their toilet breaks for them too! (OK I exaggerate somewhat).

They became the "Everything for Nothing" brigade, and DESTROYED the British Star Trek convention. All the hard-working voluteers who worked hard to help make these events work got PISSED (US Context) and grudgingly withdrew their unappreciated efforts.

Folks, let's not follow this example! I refuse to let the same fate befall my Beloved Firefly!
Heed my sorry tale!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

WTF? How old are you people? This is just a message board. We're not sheep, we all don't have to agree and act like robots.

Older fans should not crush the spirit of the new fans. It's okay to have more than one activity on Joss's birthday. For crying out loud, what's the matter with everyone?

BRAVO!

Well said 'Tash! I completely agree w/ you.

Listen up people. So there's been a "disagreement" of sorts around here lately. So what? We're a family, right? What family doesn't have it's arguements from time to time.

What we need to focus on is moving forward w/ our plans. Last time I looked no law had been passed saying only one fan driven event could be staged on Joss' birthday. So, let's get on w/ the planning & forgot all the other B.S.

You're browncoats! We do the impossible every day. So get the ball rolling. Let's get this Serenity Summer Campaign machine moving & sell some DVDs!

AGATSU

Well, there's a difference between impossible and impossible. We've already lost a lot of time through this whole thing, and time was short, anyways. Even if it weren't for the other events on June 23rd, Sept 30th is the only option, imo.
So this whole spite issue is old news.

Apart from that, I agree, but it doesn't really matter anymore.

Serenity Summer Campaign for teh win!1!!
