ancient and doddering - well, one day. I'm 31 presently and when I grow up I want to be just like Prof Farnsworth on Futurama....wha? huh?

Good news everyone......

Lovely idea. I usually keep in mind a quote from Doctor Who: "What's the point in being grown up if you can't act childish?"

For my age...I'm the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything.

You know that number attacks you from everywhere, for example the best two episodes of the original series of Star Trek were 42 and 24.

Yeah, I'm 21 too. I'm not sure that it's as bad as all that, but it's none too glamorous. I guess it is a nice age, though, in that people don't expect you to have a whole list of accomplishments. The expectations are much lower. :)

This number's been attacking me almost since birth. (The record number for my birth cert is 742.)

Really? Cause I can't seem to find a job that pays more than $10 an hour, since apparently 40 college credits is more important than military service. And seeing as how I don't have the money for college, I think the expectations are a little too gorram high.

I might actually be inclined to take offense to what Phoenixrose said, too, if it weren't a pretty accurate description of me. Still, it was pretty much on par with mud slinging/name calling. Bad form. I actually attempted to engage her and a couple other people in discussion off the message boards so as not to get in everyone's way. They were either collectively too stupid to realize that hitting "reply" to my message via their email accounts sends the message to "notify@fireflyfans.net", but not to me directly. OR, they were all just too angry and, in my opinion, immature to be open to any sort of resolution.

If, by chance, this inspires any of you to actually engage me in the interest of conflict resolution, I request that you take the same measures that myself and Rhyianan did, and do it in the form of a personal message.

And both quotes are more upbeat than the only other quote that's been popping into my mind: Inside every old person is a young person wondering what happened. I'm finding it's true, but it's just not that up-beat.

Hmmmm, I will state for the record here that I never got a message from chrismoorhead. Also I will state that I wouldn't be interested in trying to engage in any kind of dialogue with him, which I would have told him directly if I had actually gotten a message from him. As he admitted, uptight, crotchety old man is a fair description (though I was actually aiming more for humor with my comment, but then truth is funny to me) and uptight crotchety old men do not change their minds on any subject ever. I'm not trying to mudsling, just honestly saying I have better things to spend my energy on.

OK, sorry for the interuption, continue with thread now!

This will be my final attempt to resolve our conflict. During any future altercations on the board between myself and PhoenixRose, I will be citing this thread as evidence that I tried numerous times to bring this to an end. The following is a message that I just sent her, and I post it here in case this message fails to go through as the original I tried to send did. This will be the last message concerning the subject that I will post on this thread

"Ok, here is your message, then.

My original one that you claim never to have received, and lord knows I'm not accusing you of lying as these personal message things don't have a reputation of working %100 of the time, was asking you to simply point out where I had ever said that women invite rape upon themselves. Seeing as how it's been a while since that thread, I can understand if you don't even want to bring it up anymore.

That being said, IF it's old to the point you don't want to discuss it, then I would think the sentiments you feel from it should be as void as the disagreement itself. If it is not, then you are carrying on lingering emotions without any reason behind them, because reason is something that can be discussed almost by pure definition.

So, here are the two options I see if you feel like acting mature:

1) You don't care to discuss the original disagreement anymore, and by that fact don't care to continue with your negative emotions and insults towards me anymore.

2) You do care about the original disagreement, and in order to prove me wrong are willing to QUOTE me, NOT paraphrase, as saying that women invite rape upon themselves.

Of course, you have other options open to you. You can keep acting like a Parthian if you really want to, but eventually it's going to lead to the moderators and everyone else getting sick of it, which I'm sure they already are. So whether or not you want it to, this has to reach some sort of resolution, even if that is you just shutting the hell up and not talking to me anymore.

Personally, I'd like to just move past this, preferably with it being accepted knowledge that I never said anything in support of women getting raped. But the masses will believe what they want in the long run, and if they're incapable of reading words without letting their feelings cloud what's actually been stated, then there's nothing I can do about that. I'm content to have defended myself, and the words themselves will always stand as evidence to anyone with discerning intelligence as exactly what they are."

Anyone wishing to contact me can do so at christopher_moorhead@yahoo.com
